    I don't think the post season is the time to "find out" anything. Ramp up Buxton for spring training. Find out then. BTW, "unhealthy speculation" should have zero impact on anything. Certainly not something to base a playoff starting spot on. Holy cow.

    As to the article, you need some serious Midwestern bias to give Sonny the CYA. Garrett Cole wins, and deservedly so.

    There's no better measurement of a starter's effectiveness than ERA. It's literally the point of pitching.

    WPA is pretty dubious in general, but has little to do with performance. And if you want performance based measurements, you don't want fWAR for pitchers. It specifically measures what someone thinks should have happened rather than how many runs were allowed.

    I don't think Ryan has solidified anything. I don't really trust any Twins starter past Gray and Lopez, but I'd put Maeda for sure ahead of Ryan. Maybe Ober too, depending on the next couple starts. Ryan's second half has been bad. 5.75-ish ERA, WHIP almost 1.5. Velo well down.
