    Yesterday was Friday, May 31 and it was the 56th game of the year. The Twins are now 35% of the way through the season. Out of 59 years, the current team ranks 48th on the all-time list of Twins' home runs in one season and are on a pace to hit 307 home runs this season.

    I've been a Minnesota fan since I saw Elgin Baylor play in his rookie season, so I definitely have a true Minnesota sports fan mentality. Every since I've started tracking and posting the Twins home runs for the season, they haven't hit a single one. I realize it's only been one game, but I'm afraid I've cursed them. Oh well, here's today's update. Yesterday was Thursday, May 30 and it was the 55th game of the year. The Twins are now 34% of the way through the season. Out of 59 years, the current team ranks 48th on the all-time list of Twins' home runs in one season with a total of 106.

    Yesterday was Tuesday, May 28 and it was the 54th game of the year. The Twins are now 33% of the way through the season. Out of 59 years, the current team ranks 48th on the all-time list of Twins' home runs in one season. I've got this in an Excel spreadsheet that I'm going to try to update and post in the game recap each day. If you see any errors, let me know. I lot of the spreadsheet is formula driven (and also the written summary) so an error may pop up.

    I posted these stats on another thread. But for a quick reference, the Twins have already passed five teams (not including the strike shortened 1981 season), are currently tied with two seasons, and have three more within two home runs. Fifteen more seasons are fifteen or less home runs ahead. This is season 58 (again not counting 1981) and the Twins are tied for 52nd place and could move to 32nd in the next couple weeks. And we aren't a third of the way through the season yet.

    The replay from behind home plate of Buxton's double was interesting. It showed a very hard hit ball going to the center fielder on three hops. The fielder picked it up cleanly and began his throwing motion when Buxton appears on the screen starting his slide into second. Did he skip running to first? No one can be that fast. Impressive.

    This may belong in the Fun With Numbers thread (and feel free to move it if you like). I went to MLB.com and pulled up the Twins' home runs by year. As of last night, the Twins have already passed the season totals for three teams (not including the strike-shortened 1981 season): 1976 (81), 1978 (82), and 1972 (93). There are a bunch of teams which will be passed in the next few days: 1980 (99), 1990 (100), 1994 and 2011 (103), 1992 (104), and 1968 and 1999 (105). Another 16 season totals are between 111 and 128 so I think they will be caught in a few weeks. And we are only 30% through the 2019 season. Yikes....

    There were supposed to be smiley faces after my comment but they didn't show up. My comment was intended as satirical. I actually agree that the team can be special but the Minnesotan in me expects the worse. Go Vikings!!

    A quick look at the May transactions page at MLB.com shows five trades so far this month. So they are possible.

    Channing, Channing, Channing. If you truly feel that this team is something special, then you aren't a Minnesota fan at heart.

    As I mentioned yesterday, I live in Maine so the game started at 10:10. I tuned in just as the first inning ended and only managed to watch two innings. But what a two innings! Five homeruns and 10 runs scored. The Twins of the Killebrew era always epitomized what good Twins' teams should be, but this team is making the teams from the mid 60's look like banjo hitters. Glad I bought the MLBTV single team package this year.

    I'm old enough to be a fan of both the Twins and Vikings since their inceptions. Of course I'm pessimistic. I remember watching game 7 of the 1987 World Series (alone because it was going to be depressing when they lost). When Willie McGee grounded out to end the game, I waited for the umpire to signal that he had called time out prior o the pitch. I knew something bad was about to happen. I felt the same when Jack Morris finished the top of the 10th inning in 1991. I was confident that Twins would go down quietly and the bullpen would fall apart. When Larkin singled to drive in Gladden, I once again waited for something negative to happen. (And, once again, I was watching alone.) Negativity is a Minnesota sports fan's way of life

    Kudos to the Twins for allowing Cabezas to have fun on the mound. That windup in the clip is incredible.

    Ted Serious question for you. I don't understand what you are trying to say in the statement "Buxton will lose eight times as many opportunities batting at the bottom". I'm old and easily confused. Thanks.

    Wander Javier is listed as coming off the injured list "early May.". Because it is now mid May, I "wander" (sorry) when he will actually see playing time?

    I would have to believe that the Pensacola baseball fans have to be ecstatic with the Twins coming to town. Not only is the current roster loaded but the Miracle also have a bunch of prospects that will eventually be moved up.

    I watched the last two innings on MLBTV (not blacked out where I live) after watching the conclusion of the Washington/Carolina double overtime 7th game. Yikes. What a contrast. Up and down the ice for 95 playing minutes, only one TV timeout per period in overtime, non-stop action until Carolina finally wins the series and moves on. And then the tedium of watching a blowout baseball game. It was really slow and painful to watch. My thoughts (if anyone cares): an off day for Buxton and Schoop is not an uncommon move, especially against a top-flight right handed pitcher. La Tortuga in right field? Why not? Keep his bat in the lineup. Maybe the inspiration might propel the Twins to victory! It didn't but it's only one game. Lighten up, folks. It's a long season.

    I have been a Twins Daily read for the past three years. And my favorite part has always been the minor league game reports (especially when the major league report is depressing). I do not recall during this time frame any period in which the pitching prospects were so dominating. With a weak Central Division and a good hitting Twins team, I don't see the Twins falling out of contention this year. But if they do, I say the Twins just trade away all the starters (except Berrios) and bring up the kids for the second half of the season. I know they are young but what's to lose?

    I only was able to watch the ninth inning and Mejia looked very good. So he had one bad inning. There are still 145 games left (more or less).

    I would expect a fifth round draft pick to advance quicker than a 13th round pick. What's the big surprise?

    The Blue Wahoo headline says they won 5-0. Box score says 1-0. Totally agree with rdehring about the pitching. Twins have good young hitters already (with a couple more in the minors). But I don't ever remember this number of pitching prospects working their way up the ladder. I hope the Twins are aggressive with their advancement.

    When the defense behind you is really bad, a pitcher tends to try too hard to throw perfect pitches and it really impacts his performance. I think the Rochester pitchers will have awful numbers this year unless the defense improves.
