    The Pohlad family bought the Twins for $36M in 1984 and it has an estimated value of $670M. The Pohlad family is worth $3.8B. I think they can afford to offset their main business profits with financial losses by the Twins. Therefore, I propose they skip all the posturing and tell Falvey and Levine to sign Cruz, sign Odorizzi, sign Cory Oliver, sign Didi Gregorius, sign Brad Hand, fill any remaining weaknesses with the best available options, and get ready for a run at the World Series in 2021.

    Here is my worthless take on the situation. With a vaccine about ready to begin distributing, now is the time for the Twins to go all in. Fans could well be brought back into stadiums by July 1st and the second half of the season would be all sell outs. Offer Trevor Bauer four years for $120M with an option for a fifth year. Offer Marcel Ozuna three years at $48M to be DH. Sign one good reliever and fill in remaining holes internally. Payroll goes up a little but the next several years would look very promising.

    I agree 100%. We can replace Sano and Snell maybe no better than a very good #3 pitcher, but I'll take it.

    So, Seth, as long there isn't any written rule against what the Astros did, why were people suspended? I have no argument with Rose's suspension, but he wasn't cheating to win and tarnishing the game. I believe that cheating to win is more agregious than betting you can beat someone.

    I am not a big fan of Pete Rose after his betting scandal but it sure feels unfair to me that he gets banned for life for betting on his team while Hinch only got a year suspension for cheating to win. Just my two cents.

    Spoiler Alert - this post was made in jest. If the Twins don't trade Sano this off-season, resign Cruz to a two-year deal with the second year salary contingent on Sano meeting specified hitting goals such as a strikeout rate under 40% and a batting average equal to at least 90% of his weight. If the goals aren't met, Cruz' salary in year 2 is cut in half.

    So if your starting pitcher has retired 18 straight batters and has thrown 70 pitches, the "metrics" tell you to yank him to avoid the "third time though penalty"? What a load of #$@. Why would you replace a known quality with someone from the bullpen whom you haven't seen throw a pitch today? Analytics are taking instinct and common sense out of baseball and is trying to make a Nintendo game out of it. And I do realize that the Nintendo reference dates me. I was going to say Intellivision (which I owned) but I figured not many of you would know what that was.

    Here is a hypothetical trade to consider. Would you trade Rosario and Sano as a package if you could get back Trevor Bauer, a good middle reliever, a good utility player, and two High-A or AA prospect (or international money)? That's the same as trading Sano for the reliever and a prospect and Rosario for the utility player and a prospect. Trade partners may even be willing to part with more than I've mentioned, but my trades are based on presenting the minimum the Twins might get back. And then the Twins can use the salary relief (plus some additional - maybe another $10M) to sign Trevor Bauer. I think both trades would be very acceptable to other teams. Personally, with all the talent the Twins have who are about ready to break into the big leagues, it would be a good move.

    Wow! You are old. I was at a 1954 spring training game between Cleveland and the New York Giants. I saw, not only a preview of that year's World Series, but I got to see a young Willie Mays, just back from the Korean Conflict, trying to regain his center field position.

    Let's talk Sano for a minute. Is Sano's possible 40 HR, 200 Ks, .220 BA and $11M salary more valuable than Rooker's possible 30 HR, 170 Ks, .265 BA, and $.6M salary? The $10.5M savings (along with saving $11M by letting Rosario leave) would be a nice down payment on a Trevor Bauer signing. I would prefer Kirolloff in left field and Rooker at 1B (or vice versa) and Bauer pitching every 5th day.

    Until MLB moves to automated pitch calling, I think it should implement standards for umpires. If Joe West and Angel Hernandez fall below a minimum requirement for correct calls, they are sent to the minors or fired. Borderline "incorrect" calls that may have nicked the edge of the plate can be tolerated. But it's the pitches clearly within the strike zone called balls or pitches three or four (or more) inches off the plate that are called strikes that have to be eliminated.
