  1. I was amazed to read that Niko Goodrum had 11 steals in today's game. Must be some sort f record, right?
  2. Who would have thought that Gibson and Colon would be the two pitchers leading the Twins towards a playoff game?
  3. Did Molitor actually give Boshers permission to give up hits and runs? I guess I missed that. I understand that you might not like Molitor as a manager but you can't say "Molitor allowed him to allow". Just the grammar alone is enough to make me cringe.
  4. Some commenters seem to think that first base is a place to hide your worst defensive player. That's what the DH is. As Maurer has shown often this year (and Vic Power for those of you with good memories), a good-fielding first baseman makes the entire infield a better defensive unit. Leave Sano at third, where he is competent, and find a good fielding, offensive first baseman to replace Maurer in the future.
  5. How do think I felt when the Twins drafted Joe Maurer in 2001 and I realized I played hockey in high school with his Grand Uncle. I went to bed for about a week.
  6. Then how about promoting him to see if he can handle it? But the point of my comment was about the fixation on strikeouts, not Bleeker.
  7. By Twins Daily commenter standards, Clark Beeker isn't any good. Sure he has a no-runs streak of 32.2 innings and leads his league in ERA, but he didn't have a single strikeout yesterday. Obviously, he isn't anything more than a roster filler in the low minors. And yes, I'm being sarcastic. The love affair with strikeouts that some commenters have is silly. Strikeouts may be sexy, but I'll take a low ERA any day. (Plus, at my age, my doctor tells me that sexy is not good for my heart.)
  8. I loved the way Garver made the tag, gave the umpire the ball and casually walked to the dugout. Just another ho-hum play at the plate.
  9. Just a quick note on "losing" Justin Haley. I live in New England where the only baseball news I get in the papers or on local TV is about the Red Sox. There has been no mention of Haley being returned. That leads me to think that even the Red Sox don't think much of Haley.
  10. In my very humble and very old-school opinion, I would prefer a catcherthat can hit some, call a decent game, and most importantly, throw out base stealers. All the other "modern" metrics can be thrown in the garbage. Again, in my very humble and old-school opinion.
  11. Question: Has he ever pitched for an extended period in the major leagues? If he hasn't, what is the basis for declaring that he can't "pitch successfully?"
  12. With the money these free agents get, they can live in Monte Carlo in the off season. That should not not be a big factor in deciding where to pitch. The playoffs and World Series possibilities should be the reason for signing.
  13. A couple of observations. 1. I hope this convinces people that it would be idiotic to trade potential MLB players for a stopgap pitcher. The Twins are not ready now. Vegas has them at 70-1 to win the series. 2. The highlight of the game was Altuve throwing his glove after he mis-timed his jump on Granite's double. 3. Hunter's laughter after Altuve threw his glove.
  14. We need Drew Carey (or Bob Barker for us older guys) to join the Twins front office and play "Let's Make A Deal." This current team making it far (if at all) in the playoffs is just a dream so let's get working on 2018 and beyond. Trade bait: Santana and Kintzler from the pitching core. Rosario, Grossman, Dozier, Escobar, and Polanco from the hitters. If Drew or Bob can make a deal with any or all of these components which brings back young, controllable, valuable assets for 2018 and beyond, then make the deal. Otherwise, wait this out and work on improvement in the off season. Please just don't give up future assets for a short-term fix hoping to win this year.
  15. It appears that you are disagreeing with yourself. You accept that they were executing a specific plan but then say you don't think Lewis was "integral" to the plan. I would suggest that if they were executing a plan, then the first overall pick is the very cornerstone of the plan.
  16. I would "acquire" Curtiss and Reed from our own minor league system before spending assets; one of which is only a rental.
  17. Please explain why Lewis starts an inning at second base because he made the last out in the prior inning. Is this a millenial thing of rewarding negatives or an attempt to speed up games?
  18. What is the big unknown to all of is: was the 2016 time in the majors or the return to the minors the important factor in Berrios becoming an MLB pitcher? The coaches, managers, and front office may have some idea of which had the biggest impact. I personally don't think any of us arm-chair managers know the reason. Now, what I would like to see happen is trade Erv Santana, Dozier, and Rosario at the deadline but only of the combination of those trades bring back one almost in the majors AAA pitcher, and three "ready in 2018" players, preferably pitchers. An outfield of Granite, Buxton, and Kepler would be fun to watch.
  19. It's a sign of the times. Just like "everyone gets a trophy". Instead of trying to make a player work hard to improve, they are coddled and told "that's okay. You did your best." what nonsense. They are paid an obscene amount of money to play a game. I expect them to work to be the best player they can be. Sano can be abetter play but he has to work on making contact.
  20. If Griffen Jax is at Cape Canaveral for the next two years, would he be able to pitch for Ft. myers on weekends or evevings?
  21. This is how a young team grows - playing through the tough times. Every team goes through periods of underperforming and how well it overcomes them is a mark of a good team.
  22. Love the video of Vielma. Not only great range but a cannon for an arm. I hope he can hit enough to join the Twins. With him at short and Buxton in center, the pitchers should feel free to let hitters try their luck up the middle.
  23. Similar to what Birdwatcher is saying, I think the front office should just be observers for now. Watch the kids in the minors, evaluate talent on both the major league and minor league rosters, and wait to see if anyone comes knocking around the trade deadline. If there is a great offer, take it. If not, look forward to next year. This season is not a playoff season for the Twins. Let them make use of the time to prepare for 2018 and beyond.
  24. With the starting pitchers the Twins used yesterday, I expected the "win expectancy" graph to start a downward trend at "got out of bed and made coffee."
