  1. Billy Martin!!!! If you disagree, meet me behind the marshmallow truck.
  2. That was an interesting article. It contained eleven paragraphs and they all reiterated that Lee is better at third, there is a need for a solid second baseman, and that Lewis might be asked to fill that need. I believe that this is article #312 this year telling us that Lewis "might" be used at second base
  3. 1. It wasn't a "semantics argument". In fact, it wasn't an argument at all 2. Vasquez was signed long before ownership decided to cut payroll. So, once again, I think it was ownership that created the environment that prevented the front office from pursuing free agents. 3. "Quell my need"? Wow!
  4. His salary was NOT a major constraint on payroll. The major constraint was the decision of ownership to not build on a successful season. Instead, they went the opposite direction.
  5. Sherry - Early in the article, you wrote that Lewis and Wallner were victims of "in-game outs". Aren't all outs "in-game"?
  6. Maybe we should have a standard symbol to use at the beginning of a post to indicate sarcasm?? !!S!!
  7. I agree with you 100% (almost). I read Schmoeman5's comment as being sarcastic. If it wasn't, then I agree 100%.
  8. Or it just might be that the umpires have adopted the strategy that I was often accused of employing when I umpired many moons ago. Many a little league parent accused me of having my eyes shut when the pitch reached home plate. I can neither confirm nor deny the accuracy of this.
  9. I wish I had flown to Vegas in March and made a very large bet that the Twins starting pitchers in August would include Festa, SWR, and Matthews. I would never have to work again. But since I'm retired, I already don't have to work again and I can just sit back and enjoy the show. (But I still wish I could have made that bet!)
  10. I perceive in this article (and many others) that many people use "expected" value when a player is playing at a level below that expected result. But when a player is on a hot streak, these same people suddenly throw out "expected" value and cheer for the use of the hot bat. That's why I dislike advanced metrics. Anyone can find some metric to prove almost any hypothetical. I prefer using the tried and true KISS methodology (Keep It Simple, Stupid). In short, go with the hot bat and let the cold bat sit for a day or two.
  11. Walker Jenkins led off the game with a triple off the wall but ended up going 0 for 2????? Does not compute!!
  12. I think I've read this same article six or seven times since the trade deadline passed (although with a different title each time). 1. Twins could use another impact starter. 2. Twins could use bullpen help (especially a lefthander). 3. Twins need to stay healthy. Rinse, Wash, Repeat.
  13. Absolutely! With two outs, if a batter makes contact, you put your head down and run until you hear a base coach tell you to slow down. There is no need to watch the flight of the ball. Baseball 101. But maybe I'm just old school and advanced analytics says different.
  14. A nit pick... "Soto has put things together at a level he has yet to reach" Huh? This is impossible.
  15. That is a very strong statement. Do you have connections with the team, are part of the coaching staff, or just more insightful than the rest of us? I thought Mark's reasoning was very logical until you straightened me out. Thank you.
  16. That is the best explanation of why Cuban was denied admission to the MLB Owners club. No owner would accept a new member who is going to upset the apple cart.
  17. After all the heart-pounding excitement of yesterday's trade deadline conclusion, I'm thrilled to learn that the Twins didn't need to make any moves (of significance) at all. Playoffs, here we come!
  18. Any chance the front office thought they were trading for Trevor Rogers and got Trevor Richards instead?
