    Failure to advance runners so the next batters could drive them in. Hitting against the shift. Not bunting when appropriate.

    I don't think winning 3 out of the 5 games will be enough. If that happens, the Twinkies will still be 3 games out. I really believe the Twins must win 4 of the 5 games in order to be 1 game behind the Guardians. Twinkies must sweep to be 1 game up on the Guardians. Did I get these numbers correct? However, the Twins just need to look at 1 baseball game at a time. They must win tonight. PERIOD. Any loss tonight cannot be acceptable.

    I have enjoyed the Twins 2022 much more than 2021. Am I disappointed with the way the Twins' 2022 season has unraveled? Yes. But I try to take each game one at a time. I have enjoyed seeing the many successes during this season. At least the Twins were more competitive this year. I have enjoyed the positive attitudes of Correa, Gray, Urshela, Leon, Arraez and Cave. I have enjoyed the successes of several young players: Duran, Ryan, Miranda, Jax, Arraez and Gordon. I have marveled at Correa's fielding skills, his rocket throws and his leadership. I have been educated by Dick Bremer, Justin Morneau, LaTroy Hawkins, Roy Smally and Glen Perkins. All are men I would enjoy sharing a beer with at a ball game. It's almost like being present and watching a baseball game with them, as I listen to their insights and their extensive baseball knowledge and their humor. I have been so happy for Kitty and Tony O. What really nice men they are. And I like the way the Twins organization honors and respects Carew, Tony O. and Kitty and other Twins "old-timers". I have seen glimpses of Twins' hitters finally trying to hit against the shift, as Carlos and Gio and especially Arraez have shown can be done with success. I have enjoyed throughout most of this season, telling my "Braves loving buddies" that my Twins were still in first place. I have even more reasons to fuel my hatred for the Yankees. Covid has become a much more manageable issue thanks to vaccines. The noises of the crowds can now be heard at games, and we no longer have silly cardboard cutouts silently watching. For these reasons and the fact that I am getting older, I must honestly say, I have enjoyed the 2022 season much more than 2021. And even though today I can see her standing in the wings, ready to make an appearance, the fat lady ain't sung yet.

    Last night's game from start to finish, was the most fun I've had watching the Twins in a long time. I surely hope Gray and the hitters and the 3B coach rise to the occasion tonight.

    This article by Nick and the responding posts present quite the conundrum. Dur4ing the next 6 months there is plenty of blame to discuss, if one wants to spend one's time this way. One thing we can all agree on is that this 2022 season has become a disappointing fade by the Twins. Bit by bit, step by step, mistake after mistake, hit into the shift, get picked off base, send a runner from 3B to be thrown out by 10 feet at home, forget how many outs are in the inning, walk the first batter in an inning, hang a breaking pitch, on and on it goes. To paraphrase Douglas McArthur: "Minnesota Twins never die, they just fade away." Now we are facing another Twins-less October and a bleak, colder than average winter, dark until 10 am with daylight savings time now in place fulltime. Dirty ice and snow and cold winds. Cars won't start. No more sunny spring mornings, fresh vegetables and warm summer nights. Are we Twins fans doomed to repeat this scenario, every September? Is it a self full-filling prophecy? Is it the "Lake Wobegon curse"? My life would have been so different if I had not transferred my loyalty to Minnesota when the Senators fled D.C. I could have chosen to be a Yankee fan and not even have noticed that I was obnoxious. Alas, all is lost.

    Kirilloff and Larnach were ranked higher than Miranda in many rankings. Miranda is doing great. Odds are at least one of the two rookies in my post would have done well enough, but maybe not. What's your point about the other injured players I mentioned?

    Buck, Kirilloff, Larnach, Maeda, Polanco, Jeffers, Mahle all would have been significant additions to the Twins, if they were able to play today. - 4 or 5 possible starting position players and 2 starting pitchers. - These injuries are what doomed the Twins. Not Kepler failing to hit against the shift, not Pagan, not Rocco, not failure to sacrifice bunt (though I would still like to see more bunting), not Tommy Watkins, not Sands' walks, not Wes Johnson leaving, and certainly not Sano. It was the injuries that doomed the Twins to "slightly below average".

    I saw last night that the major league leader at making outs by hitting into the shift was slow running Carlos Santana. In second place was our fleet footed Max Kepler. (Quoting Dick Bremer: "And another two bouncer to the second baseman by Kepler for the final out of the inning.") Not hitting against the shift is a second example of stubbornness on Max's part. When Max was not allowed to go to play in the Toronto series, because he refused to get vaccinated, Rocco said in a Strib quote: "That's also a group that doesn't want to be told what to do." Rocco was referring to Kepler, Pagan, Thielbar and Megill. According to the Strib article, missing those 3 games cost Max $108,289 in salary; Pagan -$36,898; Theilbar -$20,856 and Megill - $11,230. It also meant that the team had to bring up 4 minor leaguers to take the places of the 4 major leaguers for the trip to Toronto. That's pretty stubborn in my book. Some of you will disagree, and I admit I do not have the reasons why any of the players refused to get vaccinated, except Pagan, which I still did not understand when I read it, however in my humble opinion, it possibly could show a "Me first " attitude. There is no "I" in team.

    IT IS SHOWTIME ! No more "It's a long season." No more "Let's wait for the Kansas City series." As Elvis sang: "It's now or never". The loser goes home. No wild card. It is September Madness. Get serious or get gone. Win or wither. Fight or fail. It is September and the autumn leaves are beginning to fall. I LOVE THIS SUSPENSE. GO TWINS. One Game At a Time. One bat at a time. One pitch at a time. IT IS SHOWTIME !

    What are the odds of 2 games being broadcast and both ending with walk off walks? I used sabrmetrics and did the math and came up with 1,579,346 to 1.

    I chose Sandy Leon. Without him the Twins may have put Jose Miranda behind the plate and Jose Miranda may have broken his ankle in a collision blocking home plate and ruined his career. Thanks Sandy.

    Duran needs to be closing and Lopez needs to be the set up guy, even though Lopez was obtained to close. Duran has beaten Lopez out for that position. It happens. It will make the Twins a better team.

    Good report. Depressing but accurate. However it is much better than 2021 in so many ways. September is still available for the Twins to snatch victory from the jaws of defeat. Thanks Nick.
