  1. Kirilloff and Larnach were ranked higher than Miranda in many rankings. Miranda is doing great. Odds are at least one of the two rookies in my post would have done well enough, but maybe not. What's your point about the other injured players I mentioned?
  2. Buck, Kirilloff, Larnach, Maeda, Polanco, Jeffers, Mahle all would have been significant additions to the Twins, if they were able to play today. - 4 or 5 possible starting position players and 2 starting pitchers. - These injuries are what doomed the Twins. Not Kepler failing to hit against the shift, not Pagan, not Rocco, not failure to sacrifice bunt (though I would still like to see more bunting), not Tommy Watkins, not Sands' walks, not Wes Johnson leaving, and certainly not Sano. It was the injuries that doomed the Twins to "slightly below average".
  3. I saw last night that the major league leader at making outs by hitting into the shift was slow running Carlos Santana. In second place was our fleet footed Max Kepler. (Quoting Dick Bremer: "And another two bouncer to the second baseman by Kepler for the final out of the inning.") Not hitting against the shift is a second example of stubbornness on Max's part. When Max was not allowed to go to play in the Toronto series, because he refused to get vaccinated, Rocco said in a Strib quote: "That's also a group that doesn't want to be told what to do." Rocco was referring to Kepler, Pagan, Thielbar and Megill. According to the Strib article, missing those 3 games cost Max $108,289 in salary; Pagan -$36,898; Theilbar -$20,856 and Megill - $11,230. It also meant that the team had to bring up 4 minor leaguers to take the places of the 4 major leaguers for the trip to Toronto. That's pretty stubborn in my book. Some of you will disagree, and I admit I do not have the reasons why any of the players refused to get vaccinated, except Pagan, which I still did not understand when I read it, however in my humble opinion, it possibly could show a "Me first " attitude. There is no "I" in team.
  4. IT IS SHOWTIME ! No more "It's a long season." No more "Let's wait for the Kansas City series." As Elvis sang: "It's now or never". The loser goes home. No wild card. It is September Madness. Get serious or get gone. Win or wither. Fight or fail. It is September and the autumn leaves are beginning to fall. I LOVE THIS SUSPENSE. GO TWINS. One Game At a Time. One bat at a time. One pitch at a time. IT IS SHOWTIME !
  5. Perkins said something similar on the TV broadcast.
  6. Thant's my point exactly. You have underrated his ability to prevent Jose Miranda from being hurt.
  7. What are the odds of 2 games being broadcast and both ending with walk off walks? I used sabrmetrics and did the math and came up with 1,579,346 to 1.

  8. What a fantastic idea for a story. I have ordered your book. You had me at "Hemmingway and Tony O".
  9. Thanks for the realistic optimism Ted. This was a much needed article to start my day after a disappointing loss to the evil empire.
  10. What a story. What a story. By tomorrow, to paraphrase Paul Harvey, "We will know the rest of the story."
  11. I chose Sandy Leon. Without him the Twins may have put Jose Miranda behind the plate and Jose Miranda may have broken his ankle in a collision blocking home plate and ruined his career. Thanks Sandy.
  12. Duran needs to be closing and Lopez needs to be the set up guy, even though Lopez was obtained to close. Duran has beaten Lopez out for that position. It happens. It will make the Twins a better team.
  13. I see some red sox's dust in the visitors' dugout at Target Field. Will someone please bring me a broom.
  14. Good report. Depressing but accurate. However it is much better than 2021 in so many ways. September is still available for the Twins to snatch victory from the jaws of defeat. Thanks Nick.
  15. Really a tough decision for the FO and for Duran. If we assume that a great starter is more valuable that a great reliever, and if we assume Duran wants to start, the Twins can factor in durability of starters vs. durability of relievers and factor in that the philosophy of this organization is currently to pull starters after 5-6 innings, if all goes well with the start (which may, or may not, apply to a true ace starter), then this is quite the conundrum. My gut tells me a starter has more potential value than a reliever, therefore I would hope the many variables at play here would be decided in favor of allowing Duran to become a starter. A caveat: The Twins must spend more money on quality (not quantity) relievers.
  16. Great article. Very timely and well written. Thanks Nick.
  17. Yes, Mark, they just have more knowledge about pitching and the players' health than you do. However I agree with you that the management is wrong about this issue.
  18. Really great and timely article, Nick. Thanks. I do feel Gio's contributions are over-looked. He needs a shout out. I would rank him as being tied with Gordon at #15. In view of the many variables to be considered when deciding when to pull a starting pitcher and which reliever to put in, and who to use as subsequent relievers, and when to use them...I feel this article helps point out the importance of the decisions Rocco must make with this pitching staff. If Rocco could get just league average innings per game out of the starters, it would go a long way to strengthen all the critically necessary relievers. I think we are going to start seeing the starters pitching longer in games as the Twins approach the finish line. It is almost time for the "distance runners"/starters to begin their kicks to the finish line.
  19. Really good points Indiana. I appreciate your research for your excellent post. I really do want Chris Archer to succeed as a Twin. His on the air interviews are extremely positive, interesting and informative, plus he is a fellow North Carolinian.
  20. Would you pay Archer $10 million to be a long reliever (2-3 innings)? I believe I would. The Twins need a good long reliever.
