  1. If your theory is true, that Carlos is padding his stats against weaker pitching in September, wouldn't it also follow that the total major league batting averages and hitting measures should be rising for September, rather than falling. I have tried to find a month to month breakdown of batting stats, but have been unable to find the total MLB hitting stats broken down by months. Will one of you, who can do this, please show us if the batting stats increased over-all during September, as opposed to the prior months.? If not then it may disprove the theory that batting stats increase in September due to weak pitching. I do not know, but my feelings are that the overall batting stats will fall during September, due to tiredness and injuries. I realize that many new players are spreading their wings in September. That is also a variable, which I don't know how to factor in. Maybe we could look month by month for players who have player over 100 games for their teams in 2022.
  2. To paraphrase that wise philosopher, Pogo: "I have seen the enemy/competition, and it is us." Pay the man what he is worth. He is arguably the best fielder at the most critical position on the field, he is a proven exceptional leader, a huge positive influence on the younger players, and a good enough hitter with enough power and a rocket arm, to be moved to 3B when he slows down at SS. He has been healthy. He is capable of being the team leader. He is a better player than "The Captain", who is/will be HOF. He would be an absolute joy to watch represent the Twins for the next 8 years. Find out what the least he will sign for and pay it. Break out of trying to be "slightly above average:".
  3. I'm not sure what you are saying here. Are you implying Correa was dogging it until September? If you will recall, the Twins were still in contention in early September. Correa has been the most valuable Twin the whole season. His batting stats speak for themselves. His fielding, at arguably the most critical fielding position, has been a true joy to behold. He has been the best fielding SS I have every seen play for the Twins. His enthusiastic support for his teammates in the dugout and on the field has been an example for players to emulate. He hustles to the mound for every coach's conference with a pitcher, giving more support. He even speaks up during some of these conferences. He has been an encourager to the younger players, especially Miranda, whom he asked the FO NOT to trade and whom he has invited to workout with him this offseason. He has said very nice things about living in Minnesota and about the Twins FO and management. He tells how much he cares for his wife and child. He is not a whiner. He stays healthy. He does not complain about being booed at every ballpark. That would weigh on me, if I were booed every time I was introduced. But he has been a class act and never complained. These are "life qualities" which I value. Having said all of this, it is obvious that I highly value Carlos Correa's contributions to this Twins team. I hope he stays a Twin, but if he choses to play for another team, I wish him well, I will cheer for him when he comes to bat and is introduced and I say thanks for the examples you have set and thanks for the memories.
  4. Correa can play on my team any day. He is a class act. Period.
  5. BRUSTAR with the Dodgers? I consider him a "former Twin".
  6. Interesting points here. Why is this? Is it because it is easier for Rocco to tell a guy who is not a multimillionaire to bunt or hit and run or hit against the shift?
  7. Mark, What is Urshela plays SS until Lewis or Miller or Lee can prove that he (1 of the 3) is ready to play world class SS for the Twinkies? I really think Gio can do it. OK all you fielding stat experts, prove me wrong.
  8. Sign Gio and if one of the young players turns out to be the next Aaron Judge, we can deal with that "Problem" when it happens.
  9. In 1941. Ted Williams was hitting .3995 entering into the last day of the season when the Red Sox had a doubleheader. scheduled. He could have sat out those last 2 games, and his average would have rounded up to .400. But Williams insisted on playing. He went 4 for 5 and raised his average up to .404. He could have sat out the second game of the doubleheader, but again, Williams insisted on playing the second game also. He went 2 for 3 and raised his average to .406. Ted Williams was arguably the best hitter ever to play baseball. But he was also a fierce competitor. He not only competed against the other team, but he was competing against himself. He wanted to be the best he could be. He had the same mentality about his service to our country as a Marine fighter pilot on both WWII and the Korean War. He had the same mentality about becoming a world class fisherman. I admire that trait and I want men like him on my team and in my foxhole with me. As far as Arraez goes, bat him first every remaining game, no matter who the pitcher is. Allow Arraez to compete, like Ted Williams. Arraez will either win the batting title this year or he will lose it. But this way he will always be able to look in the mirror and say, "I didn't quit. I tried my best. I fought the good fight." Good luck Luis. All of us at Twins Daily are pulling for you.
  10. I really enjoyed watching Correa play SS. His arm is incredible. His leadership looked to be top notch. And he hit about twice as well as Simmons. I felt better about the team's hustle and competitiveness this year, than any time in the past 5 years. There were too many mental blunders for my liking, especially when running to and from 3B (not throwing anyone under the bus here). While the shift was in use, the stubbornness of several hitters to bunt and/or hit against the shift and the refusal of the manager to order hitting against the shift, drove me crazy. The refusal to hit and run and to steal bases were annoying. The little things do add up.
  11. How about using the uniforms which the 1987 and the 1991 teams wore on their journeys to 2 World Championships? I think I wrote previously about the fact that my hometown is less than 50 miles from Charlotte, which was a Senators/Twins farm team when I was a boy. The Senators used to send their previous year's major league uniforms to Charlotte for the Charlotte players to wear the next year. The uniforms had a large red "W" on the front shirt. The Charlotte team would have the "W" (for Washington) removed from the front and a "C" (for Charlotte) being sewn in place of the "W". I know because the man that did the uniform letter exchange gave me a real Washington Senators' "W" from a real Senators uniform (maybe it was on Clint Courtney's uniform).
  12. I can't deal with this right now. It is too depressing to start my day listing all the ways the Twins FO, manager, coaches and players have disappointed us during this season. It sounds just like "Festivus". Let the "Airing of Grievances " begin.
  13. Failure to advance runners so the next batters could drive them in. Hitting against the shift. Not bunting when appropriate.
  14. I don't think winning 3 out of the 5 games will be enough. If that happens, the Twinkies will still be 3 games out. I really believe the Twins must win 4 of the 5 games in order to be 1 game behind the Guardians. Twinkies must sweep to be 1 game up on the Guardians. Did I get these numbers correct? However, the Twins just need to look at 1 baseball game at a time. They must win tonight. PERIOD. Any loss tonight cannot be acceptable.
  15. I have enjoyed the Twins 2022 much more than 2021. Am I disappointed with the way the Twins' 2022 season has unraveled? Yes. But I try to take each game one at a time. I have enjoyed seeing the many successes during this season. At least the Twins were more competitive this year. I have enjoyed the positive attitudes of Correa, Gray, Urshela, Leon, Arraez and Cave. I have enjoyed the successes of several young players: Duran, Ryan, Miranda, Jax, Arraez and Gordon. I have marveled at Correa's fielding skills, his rocket throws and his leadership. I have been educated by Dick Bremer, Justin Morneau, LaTroy Hawkins, Roy Smally and Glen Perkins. All are men I would enjoy sharing a beer with at a ball game. It's almost like being present and watching a baseball game with them, as I listen to their insights and their extensive baseball knowledge and their humor. I have been so happy for Kitty and Tony O. What really nice men they are. And I like the way the Twins organization honors and respects Carew, Tony O. and Kitty and other Twins "old-timers". I have seen glimpses of Twins' hitters finally trying to hit against the shift, as Carlos and Gio and especially Arraez have shown can be done with success. I have enjoyed throughout most of this season, telling my "Braves loving buddies" that my Twins were still in first place. I have even more reasons to fuel my hatred for the Yankees. Covid has become a much more manageable issue thanks to vaccines. The noises of the crowds can now be heard at games, and we no longer have silly cardboard cutouts silently watching. For these reasons and the fact that I am getting older, I must honestly say, I have enjoyed the 2022 season much more than 2021. And even though today I can see her standing in the wings, ready to make an appearance, the fat lady ain't sung yet.
  16. Last night's game from start to finish, was the most fun I've had watching the Twins in a long time. I surely hope Gray and the hitters and the 3B coach rise to the occasion tonight.
  17. This article by Nick and the responding posts present quite the conundrum. Dur4ing the next 6 months there is plenty of blame to discuss, if one wants to spend one's time this way. One thing we can all agree on is that this 2022 season has become a disappointing fade by the Twins. Bit by bit, step by step, mistake after mistake, hit into the shift, get picked off base, send a runner from 3B to be thrown out by 10 feet at home, forget how many outs are in the inning, walk the first batter in an inning, hang a breaking pitch, on and on it goes. To paraphrase Douglas McArthur: "Minnesota Twins never die, they just fade away." Now we are facing another Twins-less October and a bleak, colder than average winter, dark until 10 am with daylight savings time now in place fulltime. Dirty ice and snow and cold winds. Cars won't start. No more sunny spring mornings, fresh vegetables and warm summer nights. Are we Twins fans doomed to repeat this scenario, every September? Is it a self full-filling prophecy? Is it the "Lake Wobegon curse"? My life would have been so different if I had not transferred my loyalty to Minnesota when the Senators fled D.C. I could have chosen to be a Yankee fan and not even have noticed that I was obnoxious. Alas, all is lost.
