  1. Thank you owners, moderators, writers, and contributors. This site is like a family of Twins fans. I hope to meet some of you at Fort Myers the week of Feb. 22nd through the 28 of Feb. I wish we had some Twins Daily hats or shirts to identify ourselves. Look for me. I'll be wearing an olive drab Second Infantry Division baseball style hat. Do the owners and writers get to sit in the press box at spring training? How about just plain ordinary posters like me?
  2. I'm convinced Sano has the potential to have a monster year. Play ball !
  3. What were the main reasons Kepler batted lead off so frequently last year? His aggressive, first pitch swing rate was evident. His .250 plus or minus BA was not impressive for a lead off hitter. His base stealing skills were nothing special. He does have a beautiful swing though. Arraez will be a much better lead off hitter in 2020 in my opinion.
  4. Really fun series Nick. Thanks for arranging the players according to the criteria stated. One take away is that MLB is geared more toward paying players based on past performances than on your well defined criteria of asset valuation. If teams attempted to pay the players according to your asset valuations, the Major League Players Association would have a fit. I wonder...what if we ranked the Twins payroll from the highest to the lowest and then assigned each payroll amount to the players according to asset valuation, using your criteria, we would expect to have a team with many over-paid young players and few older players on one year contracts. I tried to think of an analogy in the business world, but could not. It is rare to pay for future potential, plus there are so many variables that can alter a player's future production. Maybe the free market is the best determination of an asset's value. Fascinating series. Thank you Nick.
  5. I have always felt it was riskier for a team to trade away everyday players for pitching. Pitchers are more unpredictable and more injury prone. In addition, pitchers are also riskier as draft picks. Therefore my strategy would be to sign top of the rotation .pitchers as free agents. But then what do I know?
  6. "I still think starting pitching is what's going to get you a World Series championship at the end." 2019 Quote from Zack Britton. I agree.
  7. Javier has too much upside for me to want to trade him right now.
  8. I agree 90%.I would take Price and $45 million of his contract and give up Rooker and Gordon.
  9. Interesting article. I'd keep the superior fielding RF'er, Kepler, in RF. Plus he may have to play CF some. Also we have Kirilloff who may need to play 1B and who is a much poorer fielder in the OF than Kepler.
  10. It is difficult to predict the future success of any player. Plus all of us get old and as players age, their skills decline eventually. Plus injuries are inevitable. It's a hard knock life.
  11. I agree with you, Ted.The regular season 2019 was the most fun I have ever had watching a regular season of the Twins, day in and day out. Plus I could see most games on mlb.com., even though I live thousands of miles away from Minnesota. I too want to win a World Series title every year. But I realize it ain't gonna happen. But even the most pessimist posters must admit that they would take 101 wins every year. The Twins must first make the playoffs, in order to win a World Series. Ted is saying that it looks like the Twins are set to be in the playoffs every year for the foreseeable future. For that, I am happy and maybe that makes me a "Nellie Forbush - cockeyed optimist".
  12. Am I wrong to be concerned about a pitcher whose name is David Dewitt Bailey, Jr., but whose nickname is "Homer"?
  13. Congratulations to Tom Fromming for advising the FO to sign Homer Bailey. I am truly impressed by your Tom chats on the comparison of Homer Bailey (player X) and Odorizzi and Berrios. Tom you are amazing.
  14. The Twins have signed 50 per cent of the starting pitchers needed, except one of them will be suspended 25% of the season. The most effective starting pitchers, who were free agents have been signed by other teams. At first glance, many feel this was a failure by the Twins front office. However, after examining each free agent starting pitcher, one by one, I don't think it was a failure by the front office. It takes two to tango. Each signed FA pitcher had his own agenda: location, horses, location, family, location, taxes, $324 million dollars, location which dictated each pitcher's decision to sign elsewhere. I am confident in the young pitchers who are available in the Twins' system. There will be some disappointments, as there are every year. However I believe there are enough Twins system quality staring pitchers who can put speed, location, movement, location, location and spin on a baseball and who should be ordered to pitch what the catcher calls at the location which the catcher specifies...so that the Twins will once again win 100 ball games this year and will advance to the World Series in October 2020.
  15. Could the Twins get Jon Gray and Arenado for all 5 of the above named Twins? Would you make this trade? I would, if Arenado could be tied up for 5 years or more. Sano's home runs would really carry well in the mile high atmosphere.
  16. Try the 2 inning opener, then put Graterol in. Have the opener be a pitcher who is opposite Brusdar... Smeltzer.
  17. Interesting article. Thanks.
  18. Cody, Thank you for this Christmas Eve gift of a fun article. Merry Christmas to all my TD friends.
  19. I think it will be Wander Javier at SS in 2023. Polanco at 2B and Lewis at 3B, as increased usage of the shifts make the fielding skills of the 3B even more important for a successful IF defense.
