  1. huh. well, bias happens every day in work, conscious or not. friends, people you don't like, people that you don't know.......and conflicts happen. And imagine all the second guessing from others on every move about Joe (including, most importantly, the rest of the team). It isn't just how they act, but how everyone else thinks they are acting. This is super, super, common in business, to have issues with how teams perceive a manager treats another team member, imagine how it would be with a relative. I mean, this is management 101 stuff that you have to think about every day with a team.
  2. I'm not sure anyone said that..... but, if you can't see how it would put them both in an uncomfortable, very public, place, I'm not sure what to say.
  3. If the FO and scouts can't figure out any better than fans what to do, they should be replaced. How can they figure out which minor league players to use, if they can't figure out which MLB players to try? I'm with the others, sign at least 1 legit RP .... don't rely on the minors only. That has not worked at all for several years. Maybe more than several years now. No one is say "go crazy" or "sign every RP" or "replace the entire bullpen" or any such thing. People are asking for 1-2 RPs to be signed that they team thinks are "certain" to be good. Not flyers. Not minor league deals that aren't really minor league deals.
  4. I don't think managers are over rated, they are paid like a player that supplies 1 win or less, if anything, they are underpaid and under rated. Most of what a manager does is off the field. We can't see that at all. So, my comments are all about on field tactics. He bunts too much. And please don't argue by comparing him to NL teams. I think he handles the bullpen fairly well, using his good pitchers in high leverage situations, and his bad pitchers in blow outs. That said, I think he burns out certain pitchers in that pattern. Not a super fan of his pinch running for Sano with 1-2 outs late in games. The gain is way too small to lose your best power hitter. I think challenging Buxon early in the year was a mistake. I don't know if that was him or someone else. all in all, not a huge fan. But, since we can't see most of the work, I guess I'll just sit back and wait.
  5. Wow. This is a surprise to me. Good luck to him
  6. Great writeup Seth, I say you keep writing them. Gotta work thru this slump, and not give up.
  7. Or, they could have decreased the RP list by 1, and still called up Garver and Vargas......what they did was not the only option.
  8. It's always acceptable for fans to be excited. should they be buyers, you ask? Well, for one, bats are going for 10 cents on teh dollar right now, compared to pitchers. There have been a lot of words written about that on line.....if they could add a legit DH for their 20-30th ranked player in low A ball, I'd do it. (frankly, I'd call up Garver and see if he can do it). I'm not convinced there is a RP that is better than what they have available right now. I'd consider trading for Verlander or such type player, but I don't think the Tigers are going to eat salary enough to make it worth giving up legit prospects, and I don't think teams are trading legit prospects for him....
  9. except Grossman can't really hit. Walks are better than outs, but they aren't as good as hits. He's not good either.
  10. this, I mean, who plays 3B when Sano doesn't for 15-20 games next year if not him?
  11. of course it's possible. It's also possible any value the Twins got from Kintzler this year doesn't matter to making the playoffs or not (likely, even), and possible Watson provides some when it is needed in the future (not super likely), but he has 4-6 years to try.
  12. iirc, he's also a big musical/stage guy, not sure if that is on imdb or not....
  13. because imo.... they aren't making the playoffs this year Garver is part of the future, and Gimenez is not players tend to go up and down, so getting that process started now means it is more likely he is more ready sooner next year I don't know what to expect, and neither does anyone else until he actually plays in the majors, so gather data I don't expect anyone to agree, nor am I trying to convince anyone, you asked why I (and others) want him here. Those are why.
  14. agree with Seth, leave no stone unturned. Just don't wait too long to make some decisions....
  15. me neither, but we are reasonably sure that Vargas isn't good/great at this point. And Vargas offers ZERO positional flexibility.
  16. they weren't nice clothes, or were you asking the other way?
  17. he can play first. He can play the OF if they have to PH. He can just PH. He can catch if they want to, you know, pinch hit for a catcher at some point.....
  18. I really don't understand this Vargas over Garver decision at all.
  19. options? On a 26 year old? ugh. this is frustrating, greatly frustrating* *I mean, as frustrating as a decision about a backup/bench player can be.
  20. and i did wear clothes while working from home, so it wasn't that kind of streak after all...
  21. Not my choice, but I suspect he'll be the one. all that veteran presence and whatnot.
  22. sure there is. You don't need 8 RPs every game. You just don't. There is plenty of room for him right now. Free Garver. As for the hitters in the last section, not one is all that exciting. And I doubt very much Goodrum is on a roster for more than a week or two at a time.
