Article: Twins July Trade Candidates
Mike Sixel replied to Seth Stohs's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Is anyone saying anything other than high end back up, PH, platoon partner? I guess, maybe, but that player has legit value, moreso than a 14th pitcher.- 111 replies

Ya, he's only 26 with a 900 OPS in AAA. Gotta slow it down.- 111 replies

Garver should be up and playing 1B, LF, C, DH, PH right now, I'm with you on that Seth. I think there will be 1-2 trades, mostly likely Gimenez (in August?), Belisle (sneaky good since the start of the year), Garcia.- 111 replies

I'll put this here: Jermaine Palacios, SS, Twins: Minnesota is absolutely flush with shortstop prospects. Nick Gordon is the top player in the system and the Twins doled out $4 million to international signee Wander Javier in 2015 (and he’s looking good in rookie ball). From a depth perspective, Palacios falls somewhere in the middle, having spent time at both A-ball levels in 2017. He’s done nothing but hit the cover off the ball throughout his pro career (outside of an ugly 2016 season) with an average of .298. The 20-year-old middle infielder is hitting .324 in 2017 and just recorded his 100th hit in 74 games. Palacios is still raw in a number of areas. He needs to be more patient (15 walks in 309 at-bats), get better reads on stolen bases (12-for-22 in attempts) and get more consistent on defence. If he doesn’t stick at shortstop, Palacios — who’s seen a big jump in his home run output in 2017 — could develop into an offensive-minded second baseman. http://www.fangraphs.com/fantasy/the-prospect-stock-watch-bichette-locastro-palacios/

Article: Are The Twins Suddenly Sellers?

to get to 86 wins, they need to go what? 37 and 25? That seems unlikely, and I don't know if 86 wins gets you into the playoffs anyway.- 82 replies

they didn't trade Hicks away. The question was what to do with Murphy, and they turned a guy they didn't like into a lottery ticket RP. Good move. I have no defense of the Haley moves.

TD is about all the keeps me interested in the Twins at this point, really. Much to some peoples' disappointment, I'm sure.

I often wonder how much happier some people would be if they gave up sports entirely. I know I'm happier now that I watch way less sports, and do things I like to do instead. I am pretty much down to the Twins and Vikings, though the both are fading. And I know you weren't serious...

Fair, but adding Garcia is not getting this team into the playoffs. They have to play like .700 from here on out to make it. Adding Garcia and 2 RPs 2 weeks ago? that might have helped. But they didn't.- 82 replies

Not sure what it will be like, but if they are 10 games over at this point, they won't be in third and closer to the 2nd worst AL team than the WC/division leader. For me, the illogical part of what I type (and it happens, this isn't a dissertation site) stems from the FO not committing (now, or in the recent past) to EITHER a rebuild or winning. Trading for just Jepsen, or just Garcia, is a bad strategy, imo. either try to win, or (if you are in the rebuild still) trade guys off. Everyone knew this pitching staff was bad, and the only adds they made were Belisle and Breslow. No move was made for the SP staff at all (unless you count keeping Santiago as a move), and they somehow seemed to think Hughes had a shot. So, they didn't do either, they didn't move guys to be better in 2018, and they didn't add guys to be better in 2017. Nor have they done anything real for 18/19 or 17 during the year. So, to answer your question, if they are .500, and the FO took no real action again, then yes, some will be calling their tenure into question.- 82 replies

an interesting tidbit, btw: Collin Jones 1:26 The returns for the early trades have been quite underwhelming? Is that a sense of what the market is this year, or am I undervaluing the prospects involved? Keith Law 1:26 Multiple execs have told me it's a buyer's market, so the returns are all coming back light.- 82 replies

In fairness, not one person has typed that they should do this as a real thing. They've clearly stated they should trade off near term FAs and people NOT part of the long term core (other than Rosario, who some have stated should be dealt for a legit SP, since they have some OF depth, and apparently no SP depth).- 82 replies

I'd happily trade one of those guys for a legit young DH type, or even a catcher that can hit some, since they don't seem to think Garver is that guy (or they are saving his body, which I doubt). I might even deal one for a 3B/1B/DH type, as insurance for Sano having to move to 1B.

I certainly agree that if they had two more RPs that were good, the team would be better. They don't have those players, though. And I agree they aren't terrible.- 33 replies

This seems like an odd argument to make. When people point out that the Twins w-l record is over achieving, and isn't sustainable, they are told that the Twins w-l are what they are. Now, when they lose, we are told that they could or should have won, so we shouldn't believe the w-l record.- 33 replies

Garver should have been up, instead of 419 RPs. I said this before the series started, and feel it still now. You need PH with positional flexibility in NL games. I fail to see how the occasional 5 out save is too much to ask.- 33 replies
