Heh, it's not linear, and did you read the writeups? it's easy to rip this work, but remember, he literally passes this to people on teams to get their feedback. And, Q brought back almost exactly what was predicted in terms of excess dollars and prospect value.

gotta look at age, years of control, current contract amount, track record, projections, etc. It isn't a list of the best players.....

Agreed, next off season he has 1/2 year less control. And, he's been good again this year. It really depends on the next week or so. They win a lot, keep him. They lose a lot, trade him. They "meh" a lot, um, I probably trade him, but will not villify them if they don't* *unless we learn of an incredible package, of course, which I doubt.

I'm not sure that plan backs up Dozier and the vets all that much either, though.

The Rays are in playoff contention, I don't understand why anyone thinks they are dealing Archer right now. The two situations are very, very, different.

I don't think they could, not on upside. Unless Buxton or Kepler was in the deal.

KLAW ranks Gordon as the 30th best prospect right now. Says he is playing good defense at SS. If that informs anyone's opinion about his value as a trade chip.

If you won't give up talent in a trade, you might as well not trade. I don't see how Gordon and no trade is better than Polanco and a trade, frankly, given their alternatives at SP. And I love Gordon more than most.

If Polanco has the arm for SS, he has the arm for 3B..... And, I don't think HRs are the only measure of success for a 3B, but I agree, Gordon might be a good hitter for a SS, but might not be for a 3B.

The pipeline of SS is actually pretty good right now, with several options between today and Lewis (who will, imo, be an OF within 2 years). If you are going to trade, SS and ok SP is probably the deepest part of the organization to trade from.

You think Granite is up to stay? i'd guess he was promoted very temporarily, and when they need a 5th starter, he's gone again. The Twins, imo, were wise to send down a SP that just pitched, and call up someone that could help right before and right after the ASB, but I expect it to be a short lived promotion, no matter how he plays.- 35 replies

Fair question. Good question. Santana is 34 (I think) and is showing signs of slowing down some. And, he's gone after next year. Gibson is bad. Berrios is probably good. Mejia is a wild card, but probably a 4 at best, imo. FA So, ya, if you are keeping Gibson or counting on May, then maybe you think you only need 1 SP. I think this team needs at least 2. But, I can see the argument they only need 1.

then where will you get pitching? I don't think any team has ever bought 2 legit SPs in FA in one year, but I could be wrong about that. edit to add: If they never trade for a SP, out of fear, and they don't draft them in round 1, out of fear.....and signing guys into their late 30s is not done....where do they find pitching?

.750 OPS SS is 10th in all of MLB.....I'd think that's quite valuable, if you can play good defense.

if not, they are doing it wrong. IMO, of course. if they expected all the pitchers they have added to fail, that's an issue too, I'd think.

Not sure if serious, but he had TJ surgery this year. He's not likely to be super ready/effective next year.

Darvish will stay in TX, as they are trying to entice Otani, from what I read. Arrieta has been pretty "meh" this year, he has 1-2 great years, and a bunch of "meh" years. But, he'll cost like a top end guy, imo. Price, hard to see how he opts out, given his health this year, but it's possible. Cueto, hmmmm, he's a tough one. If he does opt out, it's because he's been very good and healthy. If so, he's going to cost the most of any player on this list. I'm not convinced those others are number 1/2 types at all.

I'd like to dream on that too. So far, their AAA scouting skills and RP FA signing skills seem suspect at best.....
