  1. I'm not sure, I'd have to look at Straily more closely to know. Until this post, he hasn't even been on my radar!
  2. Jay has no value. None. Stewart might have a tiny bit of value, but who knows. Jorge is probably a RP going forward. So, a maybe SS and a RP and a 4th OF and a flyer for two legit players that are cost controlled for several years? I can't see Miami doing that. I love Gordon, and even I would most likely do that deal (not having closely examined Straily or Ramos lately) if I thought Straily was a legit pitcher.
  3. I agree it wasn't harmful. I don't understand the "in fairness" part that implies it's acceptable and not predictive of Grossman. That's been my question all along, what does "in fairness" mean, exactly? It's clear the OP thinks he wasn't trying fully, based on his words. That's not acceptable. And again, that throw is part of an actual strategy to try something, and his action should be measured in the context of them trying something on purpose, and being willing to have an INT. What was Grossman trying at that moment that was strategic?
  4. it's not a matter of "being fleeced" to me, it's a matter of timing and context of other players/options. There is a pretty long article on Gray on Fangraphs, and his underlying stuff. Those proposing the Twins give up a 10 year starter at SS/2B and a AA starting pitcher that might help them, and 1-2 other token pieces might want to read that. Look, I'm part of the "when does the future ever show up" crowd. But I'm also part of the "let's be somewhat realistic" crowd. In context of the rest of the team, and the fact that I think Gonsalves, Romero, Jorge, Thorpe can provide 1 good pitcher and 1 number 5 and 1 RP.....I am not ready to trade Gordon (and one of those guys, and 1-2 more guys) for a guy that has been hurt and isn't looking great in those things that predict if he'll be good next year also. this team needs a DH, their C to hit, their SS to hit, their CF to hit. It needs it 1B to hit. That's on the "good side" of the team! It needs a #3 or better starter, and 2 RPs. next year, when Santana is a year older, they'll need another starter. They'll probably need another RP or two. I'm not convinced now is the time. had they even tried to fix the bullpen, or add a legit starter coming into the year, I'd be more convinced that the FO thinks it's time.
  5. And what does moving the infield in have to do with Grossman and his fielding not being indicative and not mattering? At all? One is strategy/tactics, one is a sloppy/bad play because "it wasn't important to give his best" at that time, at least I think that is your contention. I also have no idea how this devolved into whether or not going deep in a game is helpful to the team. No idea.
  6. Trades are part of how you acquire talent. Every winning team uses that path.
  7. so, what do you want? trading legit multiple prospects for Gray? trading mediocre prospects for ok RPs/rentals?
  8. Adding an innings eater doesn't do much, if the goal is to win the division. One thing Molitor has done well is, mostly, not wasting his good RPs in bad games.
  9. what does "buy" mean to you, Seth? Gordon and another top piece for Gray? Marginal prospect for a RP? something between?
  10. "we" don't, actually, when assessing how good a player is. "in fairness" implied that it wasn't important to assessing if he is a good player or not, imo. Maybe I read that wrong. What did "in fairness" mean? And yes, I very much am bothered by "another gear" in that situation, since you are pretty much saying he didn't care/try all that much there, compared to other times. Also, "pitch to the score"? Years of analysis has been done on that, because that was Morris' point....and the data is clear, it's not really true.
  11. Miinor league players are almost never traded for other minor league players. There are a lot of theories why, but it is what it is. So, I doubt we'll see Garver moved for a minor league player. Frankly, I'd have him in MN as utility guy/catcher/ph/dh vs lefities. But I have my doubts.
  12. You realize the Yankees traded off players, while playing .500 ball, to get all those excess minor league players, and have a system considered better than the Twins (before this year started), right? I asked in another thread, what price, for what upgrade? Like, 2 of their best prospects for Gray (who isn't nearly as good as Quintana)? Or, a mediocre player for a mediocre RP or two?
  13. clearly that proves he should pitch the 7th inning.....duh.
  14. You think he was lazy because they were up five? Is that the context? I'd argue he was lucky it wasn't a tied game, not that he knew it wasn't a big deal due to the score.
  15. cool. One thing, I struggle with "average age" since most really good prospects get promoted, and older guys that aren't good enough repeat levels. But I've never seen a good way to compare players to other players on similar tracks (college, actual prospectness, etc.)
  16. we hear about the clubhouse a lot from some posters...... How do we think players feel about the FO giving starts to a player that is doubting he should be in teh majors anymore?
  17. It's possible, but there was clearly an argument being made that there is no correlation.
  18. Weird. I mean, a team in contention just acquired him to be one of their starters, and he isn't sure he's good enough to be playing? Weird.
  19. that first paragraph is filled with so much wrongness, it is unreal. Seriously? a 44 yo and correlation? wow.
