  1. I am flying into Boston on July 4. Still deciding if we will try to stay there that night, or drive toward Upstate NY (where we are headed). guess I should decide soon.....My son is interning out there, we'll visit him on the 9th. this has been your boring update on my life, back to baseball...
  2. IMO, Kintzler is a good closer. Much better as a closer than as a 7-8th inning guy. He does his job, not sure what more people want. Is he the best ever? no. Is he at least league average? Appears so. I'll take that.
  3. I agree they weren't likely to, but I would always be testing the waters as a GM. I don't think I'd trade Gordon for Rondon, but I think you have consider Freeland. Not necessarily because he'll be better, but because the Twins have depth in MIF, and no nearly enough SP.
  4. at least one arm has to work out, right? Probably more? I still think Rodon has a chance to be great. And clearly Freeland has had a nice rookie start. Conforto would be the guy I'd have tried to trade for, when the Mets wouldn't play him.....
  5. nearly all of them? Turner put up over 3 WAR in his rookie year (playing part time), and is on pace for 2+ this year. Gordon is in AA. I love Gordon. I think he should be on this roster next year, at some point. I was merely pointing out that saying only Scharbs and Gordon are in consideration for the best pick that year is silly. Not saying with ANY certainty that Turner is better, but that ignoring him as a potential for best MLB player is not a good idea.
  6. Melo? wow. They really don't like the guys from this organization's past much.
  7. some interesting data here: http://www.fangraphs.com/blogs/the-era-of-position-players-pitching/ One of the problems of analyzing anything based on a small number is that fluke events can skew things. We’re talking about 14 non-pitcher pitching appearances in 2017, but Chris Gimenez has made five of them. Five times, the Twins have asked the catcher to pitch, and that’s extraordinary. That’s already a single-season high for a non-pitcher over the last 50 years, and the Twins have another 101 games to play. I might as well note that Gimenez pitched in three games before this season, giving him a career total of eight appearances. That’s also the high for a non-pitcher over the last 50 years. Things are weird, but Gimenez is very weird, and that second part influences the first.
  8. It isn't so much using all the money, but using all the money to play the game to get more high end talent. I'm not convinced they did that, but I'm not convinced they didn't either. It's kind of hard to tell at this point. It's really all about Lewis and Enlow at this point, since those were there two really big decisions.
  9. Trea Turner says hello and reminds you he is already in the majors, and producing. He's probably somewhere between last year's insane hitting, and this year's meh hitting.
  10. No idea why they get a pass on teh Haley thing. He's a non-factor, that they played games to get, and not spend money to do so. Losing Haley means nothing to this team, or any team, imo. He also took up valuable 25 man roster space, on a team desperate for pitching of any value/use.
  11. I would have put Hughes in the bullpen, and signed a FA starter. I said something similar before the season, that I did not think Hughes would make it as a starter this year, and that they should move him to the bullpen. I, not being a FO person, so not knowing every possible option, would have probably also signed different AAA types. but since I don't spend all my time looking at AAA types, I couldn't tell you who. We know that teams need 8-10 starters a year. They did not line up 8-10 starters before the season, unless people thought Hughes could be a starter. Obviously losing May hurt. They also failed to trade Dozier. Rightly or wrongly, they did not turn their 1 legit asset they could afford to trade into anything for the future.
  12. right, we don't know....but if I'm him, I at least think about it. Especially with his injury history, it might be some of his real pay. It kind of reinforces the thought that trying to play thru an arm injury (or any) for a pitcher is a bad idea....
  13. Driving thru Kansas is the best part of being in Kansas.
  14. I'm surprised they haven't filed a grievance, since it appears he was hurt in MN.
  15. Congrats on the call up! It is deserved. Also, clearly the secret to his success is spending time in Bend, OR, one of the most beautiful places on the planet. I hope the Twins are patient, and let him pitch up here for some time. On Gee.....this is what happens when you make zero moves to fix the SP in the off season, despite having the worst (or close to it) starting staff in MLB the previous year.
  16. fair, I meant to type at 37 or round 11 (or even rounds 5-10, imo). But, given how the game works, probably after round 8 or so....
  17. I'm liking this solely for the CAPS...I have no real preference about the content at all.
  18. I think the point was, they should have taken another top player at 37 or after Enlow. It was for me.
  19. Isn't that a given? The point was, they should be aiming to spend to the max, including the small penalty, to get another top player. No place were we discussing when to spend on whom, were we?
