  1. I admit to being surprised he's playing. I still expect him to go down when they need another SP.
  2. Maybe he's working with Turley and, um, the other TOP prospects there?
  3. I read that the Orioles lost Rochester because the team wanted more AAA/AAAA players there, more "names" and upper level talent, and less prospects. Maybe this is about relationships with Rochester. Either way, we've heard all year he'd be up "when"...and all the "whens" have passed except drjim's. Just like Rooker was only going to spend 2 weeks below A ball.....
  4. My guess is they don't think he's an 8 ERA pitcher going forward. If they did, no amount of mentoring would matter, would it?
  5. Doesn't mean he's not around, mentoring. Whatever, nitpicking the data adds nothing to the actual conversation.
  6. wut? Berrios and Mejia aren't making progress? Or, what stats? Literally have no idea what that post means.
  7. I guess I don't see how it could change their plans, because the WS are doing what everyone knew they would, KC has not changed its plans, and neither had Detroit or CLE. I'm not sure what's changed, really, other than they've won a few more games than "planned" probably.
  8. Why can't the Twins do that? If they replace him with a minor leaguer, they've increased payroll by $300K or so. If they can sign a FA, they can pay Hughes not play.
  9. who is he mentoring? And isn't Santana, Belisle, Breslow, Hughes, Perkins enough mentors? I mean, really, which young SP needs mentoring? And how many mentors does he need? Are you sure his presence can only help the team? It isn't possible he is a bad pitcher now, and his presence will hurt the team? Do we know he's a great mentor or whatever?
  10. Heh, it's not linear, and did you read the writeups? it's easy to rip this work, but remember, he literally passes this to people on teams to get their feedback. And, Q brought back almost exactly what was predicted in terms of excess dollars and prospect value.
  11. gotta look at age, years of control, current contract amount, track record, projections, etc. It isn't a list of the best players.....
  12. Agreed, next off season he has 1/2 year less control. And, he's been good again this year. It really depends on the next week or so. They win a lot, keep him. They lose a lot, trade him. They "meh" a lot, um, I probably trade him, but will not villify them if they don't* *unless we learn of an incredible package, of course, which I doubt.
  13. I'm not sure that plan backs up Dozier and the vets all that much either, though.
  14. the comparison of their bWAR isn't any better for ESan....
  15. The Rays are in playoff contention, I don't understand why anyone thinks they are dealing Archer right now. The two situations are very, very, different.
  16. I don't think they could, not on upside. Unless Buxton or Kepler was in the deal.
  17. Quintana to the Cubs, for a LARGE hall.....so he's out. and yes, I posted this in 2 threads. Just making sure...
  18. KLAW ranks Gordon as the 30th best prospect right now. Says he is playing good defense at SS. If that informs anyone's opinion about his value as a trade chip.
  19. If you won't give up talent in a trade, you might as well not trade. I don't see how Gordon and no trade is better than Polanco and a trade, frankly, given their alternatives at SP. And I love Gordon more than most.
  20. BTW, Fangraphs has Chris Archer as the 16th most valuable trade piece right now..... http://www.fangraphs.com/blogs/2017-trade-value-11-to-20/
  21. If Polanco has the arm for SS, he has the arm for 3B..... And, I don't think HRs are the only measure of success for a 3B, but I agree, Gordon might be a good hitter for a SS, but might not be for a 3B.
  22. The pipeline of SS is actually pretty good right now, with several options between today and Lewis (who will, imo, be an OF within 2 years). If you are going to trade, SS and ok SP is probably the deepest part of the organization to trade from.
  23. Because prospect for prospect trades almost never happen. Like, never.
  24. You think Granite is up to stay? i'd guess he was promoted very temporarily, and when they need a 5th starter, he's gone again. The Twins, imo, were wise to send down a SP that just pitched, and call up someone that could help right before and right after the ASB, but I expect it to be a short lived promotion, no matter how he plays.
