  1. And it isn't like players they trade for don't get hurt.... There's risk too.
  2. Nothing? Casual fans show up for home runs and winning.
  3. I agree..... But weren't we taking about the market for elite players?
  4. You think they can afford 28.5 million for ten years, but not for thirteen? Swanson isn't near the player CC is, but he'll get seven to ten years at over 25 million per ..... They can afford that?
  5. For one year. That's not even close to what we are talking about. The real market is what we see. That's what's real.
  6. Bull. They had plenty of money, they chose not to spend it. What about the beginning of the deal, they would not have that either had they not signed him.
  7. Another option? Blow up the roster. They've already dealt from the farm like crazy..... And their drafts are suspect. I think, not that I want this, the best option from a baseball perspective, is to blow it up.
  8. You don't think Swanson is getting ten years? He's not close to the player the other three are. Why would you sign two cheap starters? They have plenty of back end starters.
  9. Like who? Who can they sign that is a difference maker? Last year was a record year for free agent starting pitchers, the Twins passed. Instead they dealt prospects, and still had nothing to show from two of the deals This year was a record year for short stops, they passed They've signed one long term deal with an elite player, and they traded him after two years. Nothing has changed. They won't pay market rates for great players.
  10. I don't think only looking at FA deals is a good measure of risk taking....but I get your point.
  11. Money is way easier to recover than good prospects. I'll be VERY surprised if Rodon signs here, slightly less so if Correa does.
  12. The Yankees have held their SS prospects for two years now. I can't see them dealing one for Kepler. Volpe is the 10th rated prospect in all of baseball, by Fangraphs......ya, no chance. I'd guess you can get someone else in the 5-10 range on their list. https://www.fangraphs.com/prospects/the-board/2022-in-season-prospect-list/summary?sort=-1,1&team=nyy
  13. I think he'd move Tatis for that. Gives them room to sign the guys they really want.
  14. None of those pitchers got the twins anywhere last year. By your logic, they aren't worth signing. Ohtani didn't carry the Angels to the playoffs..... You don't think he's worth signing next year? I don't really understand the logic in saying player X was not good enough to carry a team, so he's not worth signing.
  15. Why? Just go with Farmer. He's better.
  16. Trading Kepler is what the Rays would do at this point.....
  17. And he's hurt a lot, not what you want in Buxton insurance.
  18. Lewis moves to left and center when Buxton is hurt. Lee plays third or second or right field. Miranda moves to DH or first. They aren't close to having a logjam. Or, one of them is dealt as part of a deal for a very good pitcher.
  19. I'm not sure what the As are doing, other than trying to have the lowest payroll.
  20. Everything I read online says Oakland got nothing. A bunch of backups with low ceilings. We'll see in a couple years, but it's hard to imagine they couldn't get one great prospect.
