  1. I think they keep Kepler and Gallo. Look at last year's disaster. Me? I'd trade Kepler right now for a great prospect. Even a very good one. Yes, that would hurt 2023 depth. I'm willing to take that risk.
  2. One of the worst humans ever. No thanks.
  3. How is this a rumor? It is news, and was reported when Gallo was signed, wasn't it? I have zero, nada, nil, issue replacing Contreras with Gallo.
  4. Sure, if you can get a really good pitcher for Arraez and Kepler and one decent prospect, sure. Good luck with that. What team that has a good pitcher in the majors wants two veteran hitters?
  5. Mahle, Kiriloff and Larnach haven't been healthy for two years. Miranda? Sure, if you want to go to maybe 10 million a year. I'd extend Gray, but given this market, he'll want 4 years for at least 20 million a year .... hint....the Twins won't do that for anyone, let alone a pitcher.
  6. 100% . Not only are they passing on the elite pitchers, they are passing on the next tier. Every year. Over and over.
  7. To be clear.....my posts about having CC or having two mediocre players aren't about CC.....they are about the strategy of continuing to sign one or two bad or ok players, year after year, instead of signing an elite player. Last year there were more great SPs available than ever. Instead of signing one, they signed Bundy and Archer, who were literally their two worst starters last year. Then, at the break, they dealt for Mahle. Imagine if they had signed one of the really good starters instead! And, that player would still be here this year, and next. Now? Now they need starters again, and they are down the prospects they dealt for Mahle (who is gone after this year, so they'll need another pitcher next year).
  8. The Twins need pitching because last year was a record year for free agent starters, and they sat it out. Just like this year. And every year.
  9. This wasn't a strategy until last year when their veterans were bad and hurt. Why do we expect it to continue? You wanted Bundy to pitch more innings? Or injured guys?
  10. If they trade six years of SWR for two of Lopez, they should be fired. People do realize they need to keep prospects right? They won't sign long term deals, so the only way to have players is to keep prospects. They should not deal anyone, in a realistic trade, for only two years of a player at this point. I'm flabbergasted at all these trade suggestions for guys with limited control.
  11. If every GM acts the same way, I suggest the problem is above them.
  12. Who? Who are your extending? And, that only goes so far. Putting aside CC, they haven't signed anyone other than Donaldson to real money for more than one year. Not even second tier players, let alone elite players. The money not spent there goes to the owners. It's not like they have a budget, and if they don't spend it give it as bonuses to staff, or save it for next year. They keep it. Need more yachts.
  13. This. 100% this. Let's not pretend they've signed more than one big time deal for more than one year, and they traded that guy after two years. There was zero chance he takes that offer. Just like Darvish a few years ago.
  14. They also didn't sign any of the top FA starting pitchers last year, in a record year for that opportunity. Nor did they sign one this year. Not spending money just puts it in the owner's pocket. They have one long term deal for real money, and they traded that guy after two years. In the history of the team.
  15. You either sign an elite player, or several not so great players.....They are literally signing Joey Gallo to 11 MM for one year. One year. How that fixes anything, I have no idea. Again, the dead money isn't an issue, that's all about spreading out the pain. You are giving up one average FA for three years. I'm willing to do that to get an elite player (which they passed on last year and this year, and will likely again next year - they don't even sign the next tier down either).
  16. It's the market. Or, the money can go to the owners......that's the option. Because the teams not signing elite players aren't signing the next tier either.
  17. But Miranda isn't replacing Urshela on the roster.....which was what I replied to.
  18. If you walk into a car dealer, and offer ten percent under sticker, is it a real offer? The alternative appears to be two Joey Gallo types....
  19. You'd rather have two Gallo types and a veteran near the minimum, than an elite player and two rookies? You'd like to take the chance on being right over and over on one year deals?
  20. So, the owners should keep the money? I'd rather the players get it. YMMV.
  21. By the last three years, you are giving up an average free agent to get an elite player in his prime. I'd do that all day
  22. One elite player and two rookies, or two Joey Gallos (only signed for one year, so no long term fix) and a random low priced vet? Which would you prefer?
  23. Got it. Yes, baseball should want more. Agreed.
