  1. Ryan hasn't had much to work with in 2.0 Ryan got Escobar for Liriano. Escobar if used right could be a full time shortstop. Ryan also got Milone for a player he picked up on the waiver wire. Milone's not going to win a Cy Young but there is still a place for the proverbial crafty lefty in MLB. Those are the two that come to mind. There's a little more pressure on Ryan this time. Both because the talent he's sitting on and the pennant race the Twins found themselves in (and in no way should concede). I hope Ryan is taking the need for bullpen help seriously.
  2. Ryan's my GM but he has some really bad blind spots. The "it ain't July 31 we can't judge yet" argument doesn't wash. We are losing bargaining power every hour we wait. Of course we'll be giving up a better prospect than we needed to. Also we needed relief help....weeks ago? Months? We tried some internal things first, which was fine, but Ryan was going to make some deals and right some wrongs after the All Star break, is what we all said before the All Star break.
  3. I don't know. I think a team would accept Nolasco in a trade if we eat his entire salary. (Only half tongue in cheek). Of course maybe that's what Ryan is doing and everyone is then immediately hanging up on him?
  4. Of course there is. My response to that is "welcome to the 21st century, big game hunter colonial man." I've stopped shaking my fist at the sky every time the internet blows up on a guy like this. This guy's sense of entitlement is nauseating. He's got quite a rap sheet besides just killing a beloved lion in a national park. He lied to a state agency about a bear he illegally poached. He sexually harassed a receptionist. Probably much much more we'll never hear about. Maybe he doesn't deserve the vitriol he is getting, but whatever. The blonde women in his brochures do have nice teeth, though.
  5. What about Shawn Kelley from the Padres? He has a 27% K rate and immediately becomes our best righty by a million miles. He is also pitching for a contract (sounds nicer than saying "rental"). If the Padres want to throw in Shields for Nolasco, all the better.
  6. Everything. A great core of players developed up the system, supplemented by timely free agent signings, a great manager, and really great cohesion. And great fans!
  7. oooh I want those deck chairs!
  8. Ryan is old school. He leads an old school front office. That's just how it is. He is too conservative to be involved in a Tulowitzki type deal. There are some "sucker" GMs in the league, I don't think Ryan is one of them. The old school thing to do right now is get a good deal on a good relief pitcher from a team wanting to sell. Ryan should be able to do that, at a bare minimum. Don't leave the fans and the guys in your clubhouse high and dry. Get some relief pitching.
  9. Dozier bunted the first two strikes! The team's home run leader!
  10. In hindsight, I wonder if Colorado might have accepted a deal for Tulo in exchange for something like Trevor May, Danny Santana, and one of our can't miss pitching prospects in A ball who are nevertheless 24 years old but still in A ball. Tulowitzki would be a nice bridge to Nick Gordon. Not to mention when he's on the field he's perhaps the very best there is at the position. Not to mention, this whole rumor got started because supposedly Dozier and Tulowitzki hit it off great together at the All Star game, and the Twins openly state that chemistry is an important factor in their roster construction. *sigh*
  11. Yep, the best prospect in the Tulo deal wasn't even as good as Berrios. Clippard was gotten for an A ball guy. Every year I forget how cheaply these deadline deals are. Do something!
  12. Really a tough loss that we'll all remember for a long time.
  13. Heh, this might be the best Twins coverage in the market. Does TD have pool credentials?
  14. It would be nice to know, but the media here is weak. If this was the NY or Philly market (I'm glad it's not, but) if it was, the heat would be on high for several of these questions. Ryan and Molitor don't realize how easy they have it.
  15. This can't be stressed enough. The Twins need someone who is going to destroy water coolers after a game like this.
  16. Reyes is a shell of his former self. Toronto fans were celebrating when they heard Reyes was traded. And, they were celebrating even before they knew Tulo was part of the deal *ba-dum*
  17. It's a fair point. This is why IMO a guy like Clippard, who has proven himself over and over, is probably so much more valuable to the Twins right now than than a minor league A ball pitcher—any A ball pitcher, starter or reliever. Especially in a pennant race.
  18. Clippard improves the Twin's 2015 bullpen immensely (or would have). Gonsalves won't be a contributor with the Twins until 2017 or 2018, if ever. I wonder if Ryan made Oakland any offers or if he sat that one out.
  19. Really, any of the A ball arms for Clippard except for probably Burdi and Jay, and the Twins come out ahead. Clippard is solid and bullpen is a huge need for this team right now. I'd love to know what the A's were asking from us. Come on Terry! Also, TINSTAAPP.
  20. As do General Managers for the Twins.
  21. Yes, in defense of Hicks, it appears the outfield warning track in Anaheim is synthetic and basically made of plastic (like everything else in Cali) instead of dirt. I would say Hicks read the ball fine and was going to reach up and make the catch, and was only putting on the brakes to brace himself against the fence after he caught it. If he was wearing plastic cleats, that would explain his heels slipping out. Here's Lance Berkman slipping in Yankee stadium in 2010—different surface but same deal. It's a little overkill to claim every ball that lands in the outfield somewhere is the result of a Hicks misread or misplay. Hicks definitely misplayed the ball on Saturday night but it's not a stretch to say he is playing extremely well since his call up.
  22. Every time this thread gets bumped makes me think Feliz has been DFA'd yet again.
  23. Got any sour cream or an avocado? Or cilantro? Sounds good, enjoy
