  1. I thought the third base coach (or anyone) should have gone out and gave the umpires a more educated report of what happened on that play. After that it felt like the Twins would just sit back and passively take whatever the Yankees gave them. Which was an early exit. But....all in the past. New team, new start.
  2. Yeah but do your bigfoot jokes have completely unexpected punchlines?
  3. Great story. I also wonder if that dropped fly ball in Texas got his attention more than a hundred closed door lectures ever could. And then going on DL and watching your eventual replacement play your position.
  4. Did they even mention or show a clip of Dozier's walk off? If not, huge disappointment.
  5. What do the sabermetricians say about the best way to construct a lineup? I only skimmed part of the thread so sorry if it was addressed. It's a good dilemma to have for sure. I don't mind Dozier batting lead off. He's only leading off once a game and thanks to Hicksie and the others, it seems like Dozier's getting a lot of at bats with runners on base right now anyway. In other words it already feels like he's hitting in the middle of the order.
  6. You've got that turned around, ashburyjohn.
  7. I will give you McMullin since 28 of his 29 starts were complete games. But no way Steve King.
  8. Carew is deserved, but I'd bump him in favor of a pitcher, if only there was a pitcher that towered above the others. Kaat, maybe. Walter Johnson if that's your thing. Lot's of people will say Blyleven but his tireless, multi year, self promotion campaign to get himself in the Hall didn't really do me any favors. I would also accept Tom Kelly on there.
  9. George Zettlein Lip Pike Count Gedney Jimmy Wood
  10. Great comment. Sano is already demonstrating that he has a very discriminating batting eye, so that comment should scare opposing pitchers. It doesn't feel like Sano is even a prospect anymore or should hit anywhere other than clean-up for any MLB team. You already know and expect he's going to contribute something in every game.
  11. I will try to check it out next time. I'm glad there are at least a few other fans that actually enjoy this stuff even though we realize it's all fluff. Like above poster, part of what I liked before was seeing the really long ones / 500 footers which apparently weren't as many this year. I also liked when the kids were out there shagging. Were there kids in the outfield this year? Seems like a risk if players are trying to race through it. Also when players from different teams got together in the dugout and went crazy after the really long ones. I liked seeing their reactions to Stanton's blasts last year. Did the TV have those reaction shots in this format?
  12. I'm surprised this thread hasn't been derailed by Mauer bashing yet. /meta
  13. Well, we've seen that he refuses to come out of games when injured or refuse to admit that he's hurt. Maybe that's something.
  14. Great data, jokin. For this team at this moment, May probably has more impact in the pen than in the rotation. (Of course the same might have been true if the names May and Pelfrey had been switched, but still.)
  15. Bored with Sano, Buxton and Rosario already? Tough crowd!
  16. Thanks for looking this up. I thought part of the advertised genius of Molitor would be knowing the best spots for a runner to steal. Between that and the bunting I think we are giving up way too many outs and at bats. Hopefully the benefit of letting them learn it on their own is that they become much better base runners and base stealers in the future.
  17. But young players shouldn't be doing stupid things at this point in the season. These guys need red lights unless a steal or hit an run is specifically called.
  18. Trevor May leads (or "led") the staff in strikeout rate and fielding-independent ERA, so Molitor/Ryan's talk of sending him to Rochester is just bizarre. I think they'll find a good role for him, however. He's been a good luck charm so far.
  19. All I watch is baseball, so it won't be me
  20. Unbelievable what a batting eye Sano has.
  21. Seems like every couple years there is a player who declares himself out so he can rest a nagging injury or go on DL. Dozier has earned this as much as anyone.
  22. Sano was called out on that exact same pitch in the 1st...a breaking ball on the corner at the letters.
