  1. This is actually a big story. My understanding is that on July 24, a delegation of international officials led by the prime minister of Israel will accompany members of Congress to Progressive Field in Cleveland to watch the Guardians host the Tigers. The delegation will watch the game from a dugout suite directly behind home plate, in full view of the center field camera. Representing the Minnesota Twins on this visit will be Sen. Amy Klobuchar. Klobuchar will bring her glove, in case one of the batters hits a foul ball to her.
  2. Shoutout to SWR for turning a corner. Obviously the ROY talk is intentionally over the top and to hook people into the conversation. SWR will do good by just pacing himself and finishing the season well, not trying to compete for individual accolades.
  3. Maybe it would be a good time to patronize one of your local watering holes?
  4. Even with 110 wins, the Twins still wouldn’t catch Cleveland and their 111-win pace! (because you need to throw out their games against Houston & Atlanta)
  5. Kwan and Larnach were college teammates. Cleveland already lost Shane Bieber, and Triston McKenzie and Gavin Williams (has not appeared in MLB yet), are both pitching through tender elbows. I keep waiting for the rest of Cleveland's starting pitching to fall apart, but so far it hasn't. Well, Carlos Carrasco is washed up, but the rest of them are competitive.
  6. The White Sox should be looking for good young player with a good attitude who could turn around their toxic clubhouse culture in a very short time -- The White Sox should ask the Twins for Royce Lewis!
  7. Provided Cleveland’s first half is not a mirage, and Cleveland does win the division, the Twins still have an excellent chance at a wild card. They could even stumble backwards into it. I think the Twins competition for 1 of the 2 final wild card spots would be Boston and the two AL West teams, currently Houston and Texas. Maybe KC but I don’t think KC is ripe. This is the worst Tampa Bay team since 2007 (edit: except for 2016 I guess) and Toronto is somehow an underachieving mess again. Baseball Reference has the Twins at 77.5 percent to make the postseason and that sounds about right.
  8. I mentioned earlier in another thread that I wouldnt be surprised if Royce Lewis was the Twins All Star. I think that would be fantastic. However, I do think if Joe Ryan pitches strong into the All Star break, or if a spot opens for Ryan Jeffers depending on the catcher situation this year, then one of those two would be more likely.
  9. It’s time to move Duran back to the 9th inning closer role if that’s what he prefers. Let him throw his heat and let him be the guy. So he will face the 7, 8, 9 guys sometimes. Who cares. That’s a good thing. That will get him to being a dominant figure again. He surrendered two runs last night before he even threw his fastball once. Good plan, good plan. /s
  10. Revisiting: If Joe Ryan can close strong and get his ERA in the 2’s, then I think it’s Ryan. If Jeffers rebounds he might also go, depending on the AL catcher situation or if one of the top ones bows out. So that might be two Twins. If neither of those guys are named, the default would probably be Jax. However, the real wild card possibility is Royce Lewis. If Royce keeps being Royce, I could see him being named as a backup, easily.
  11. Sure, I’ll take the bait. In terms of bang for buck, which infield combination sounds best right about now: $ 44 million, Correa/Arraez $ 37 million, Correa/Castro $ 12 million, Lewis/Arraez $ 4 million, Lewis/Castro A little something for both sides there, I hope.
  12. I love the analysis but I don't necessarily agree with the conclusion of "he will be fine". Who knows? If these pitch selections and locations hold, I think the better teams will be able to capitalize. Duran has had some near misses of late. At this point I no longer think of him as unhittable. Is he really good? Yes. Another thing is how many 100+ flame throwers can maintain good health and for how long? I have no idea. I haven't been keeping track. I think if there's any injury or discomfort at all that we need to give this guy (Duran) ample rest so that he can be ready to ramp it back up to 103-104 in the postseason.
  13. Man this team is hot — everything is going their way and most importantly, they don’t quit. Sometimes they fail to show up, like against New York, but when they do show up, they don’t quit. 🙂
  14. Echo all the great compliments above. We are lucky that Mike Radcliffe, the scouting, the front office, and everyone else could all come together on this individual and take him #1. Speaking for myself, I would start him at Shortstop in Game 2 of the split doubleheader tonight, and never look back.
  15. I am in favor of platooning. Most likely it was easier to see results of platooning back in the earlier eras when the expectation was that a single pitcher would pitch all nine innings and the favorable platoon matchup would hold for the whole game. The pinch hitting in the middle innings I am guessing is a Rocco thing, and Rocco alone. It would be fun to see some data from other teams however. As far as Kirilloff, I wonder if a Miranda-Kirilloff platoon at first wouldn’t be better medium-term and longterm for the team and also give those two guys some certainty about their roles, at least for the next season or two. Edit: granted I think neither of them are above average fielders
  16. I am for platooning. This right here is what I am against, the early and automatic pinch hitting. It seems penny wise and pound foolish to me, and I’m not convinced it has added net wins for the team based on results of those plate appearances,, unless someone were to go back game by game and look.
  17. I actually agree with this to a large degree. I have not been following as closely as in past years, but I think there is room for some team to succeed by just having more every day players who know how to play defense at a primary position and just put more balls in play.
  18. Is this satire disguised as argument or vice versa? Is this even factual?
  19. I disagree; but I also think the more interesting question is the one about how the Injured List is used.
  20. The Twins were right to demote Kirilloff for the simple reason that the Twin Can Do No Wrong!
  21. What’s even worse is that Park is supposedly in a neutral role of just reporting on the Twins, not jumping to their defense when something questionable happens.
  22. Well since this is Twins Daily, your punchline could have also been Avian Flu, or Joe Benson. 🙂
  23. Yeah, a year ago we talked about how huge it would be if Kirilloff came back 100% from his wrist issue. Well, he’s apparently 100% now but he’s also now just another mediocre guy with minor league options.
  24. Wait, so Santana pinch hit for Margot, the same Margot who is the designated pinch hitter on this team?
