  1. I am hoping Arcia gets the same opportunity in 2016 that Danny Santana got in 2015.
  2. I think O'Rourke is underrated. That is a devastating slider he has.
  3. I thought your initial review was spot on. I give it 8 of 10. The new characters are really good. Rey is a great lead. I thought the Han Solo-Kylo Ren scene was perfect. Ren could plausibly go in any direction at this point, which is intriguing. No offense to anyone but I thought Leia was a record needle scratch every time they showed her. The story was moving fine without her. I'd like to see Leia gracefully make her exit early in the next film, though apparently the book suggests otherwise? I think C3PO could be written out, too. But overall a great show which I would definitely see again. The creatures are fantastic and all the little Star Wars touches are excellent throughout.
  4. Good job. I agree (mostly) and if Buxton is ready for the leadoff spot, we will be golden. Just a technical point--I don't think the Twins were dabbling with the idea of Tulowitzki, but more like the Twins Daily posters were dabbling with it. and in our defense, Danny Santana was still the starting shortstop at that time. Escobar didn't take over for good until the final days of July.
  5. I agree. However, if they give Nolasco your dozen starts and then cut him, that's still roughly $7.5m + $12m = $20 million in salary they are dumping. Not much of a difference in dollars, really, and not counting the benefit of getting those roster spots back. Or, to put it another way.......welcome to free agency, Mr. Pohlad. Some guys just don't work out.
  6. Right. Sometimes you just need to accept a guy's quirks as long as he's getting the job done.
  7. Why is it perfectly reasonable to give Nolasco a dozen more starts before cutting him, but it's unreasonable and disingenuous for anyone to suggest giving Nolasco just a handful of starts before cutting him?
  8. Here's the thing: the Astros just traded Appel. You almost never see the Twins trade a prospect while he still has value. Pinto, Vargas, Meyer, Danny Santana, Arcia, those guys might have had value other organizations a year ago or been part of a bigger trade. Free Arcia!
  9. Detroit is bigger, not arguing that, though someone might be able to cite some better figures on demographics, growth, whatever, and show that the gap is not as big as you present it. What I'm saying is that it's more than fair to group Detroit and Minnesota together with the "everyone else" crowd. This is where I think your arguments fall short, MLR. The Tigers in my opinion do not have the same advantages as the typical NY or LA team any given year, even though the owner spends like he does.
  10. I am assuming you are including Detroit in that top 10 but I don't know why you would. Other than what is assumed to be a better tv deal which is: first, a contract of the Twins own making, and second, a chicken and egg problem, win games and more people will watch. Otherwise I see the Twins and Tigers as basically in similar positions, similar markets, same division. Yet Detroit has signed Cabrera and Fielder and locked up Verlander for $28 million a year, also David Price even passed through Detroit in a trade. I think it's fair to question how the Santana, Nolasco, and Hughes extension contracts fits in with Ryan's plan to develop prospects.
  11. nobody is saying high revene teams don't have an advantage in signing top free agents. The big problem I am having is that you are drawing the revenue line directly above the Twins. As I see it, the only teams with an inherent advantage year after year are a half dozen or so top market teams, the Cubs, maybe another team or two that happens to be ascendant at the time. That's it.
  12. Maybe Joe can hit 300 again. Ryan said that. I think it was a mistake for him to say that, especially if the Twins are confident he is not likely to ever return to that level again.
  13. But what if he doesn't pitch well, or doesn't pitch at all?
  14. As stated, as long as the key word is 'temporary,' I can get behind this move. If May struggles in the bullpen, we can always demote him back to the starting rotation? The bullpen keeps filling up, however. The order of relievers is now Jepsen, May, Perkins, Fien, Abad. I agree with spy that Abad seems to be virtually a lock. I don't see Abad as an upgrade over O'Rourke but to each their own. No idea where all the other guys listed above fit in to this. It will be interesting to see who Ryan cuts this spring. He's been adding more than subtracting, so there will have to be some surprising names.
  15. "The 30-year-old outfielder does not have much to offer the Twins on the field, but he is one of those veterans who has 80-grade makeup and is good to have in spring training to help show younger players what it means to be a pro."
  16. Responding to number 1: In the outfield, I do think the defense will be worse, at least as long as Buxton is in AAA. Imagine last years outfield without a Buxton or Hicks. I do think Sano will be a worse fielder than Hunter turned out to be. Hunter began horribly but started playing better out there as the season went on. We can expect Sano to be somewhere on the spectrum of guys we ran out there in 2014--hopefully you don't remember back that far. Somewhere between Colabello, Kubel, Escobar, and Santana. I can already see Sano jogging in to field a soft line drive for the third out, nonchalant, shades on the bill of his cap, and then braking hard and turning tail as the ball flies over his head and two important runs score. Or having poor technique on a sacrifice fly situation, and tweaking his shoulder making a 380-foot throw he's never attempted before. Sano will probably be fine, but people have a right to be concerned about little stuff like that. There are just too many ifs. If Perkins can ever pitch a whole season again. If Mauer bounces back. If the catching situation improves. We each have our own ifs, so the effect of all these threads amplifies, and in my opinion it's not as negative as it seems.
  17. I pant at the prospect of his bat... if that means he plays in the outfield for the first 6-8 innings most nights, I can live with that. Arcia may be bad, but it's not like he's Kyle Schwarber bad
  18. Once again, you are correct. I can't seem to put anything past you.
  19. Since trading away Hicks, it does seem like we are signing minor league outfielders at the rate of about one per week. Every spring training inning these guys play in the outfield will be at the expense of someone else, like Walker or Sano.
  20. In Abad, I see another 30 year old who's had one good season in his life. So,....ouch. But maybe he figured something out the past couple years. Wouldn't hurt to give him a tryout. But we're still looking.
  21. Sorry to be snarky. You hear too much from radio curmudgeons about "kids on their cellphones these days" when actually smartphones are a pretty necessary device for kids to carry with them now. Up to now, I don't think MLB teams have ever been at risk of being sued by a fan injured at the park. The law has been pretty clear and teams have no liability. It took a mind shift to finally get this done.
  22. People in those sections, and even down foul lines, just don't understand how hard those batted balls are coming. It's great to say they assume the risk, but honestly a majority of people really have no idea.
  23. Is there data on this? I would love to see it.
  24. I'm pretty sure Ryan has said May will begin as a starter in ST, so this almost sounds like Molitor holding May hostage for relief help. Solution: acquire a reliever for 2016, Ryan!
