  1. Interesting look at it, and maybe even an acceptable use of WAR ,thanks
  2. I think Arcia as a bench bat is key. In a perfect world I would have platooned Arcia and Hicks, lot's of us argued for that, to no avail. World ain't perfect I guess....And you can alway remove Arcia in the late innings after he gets his 2 or 3 hacks.
  3. Do the Twins promote college relievers too slowly? Anyone have any data comparisons?
  4. Why would anyone set the bar that high? I mean, come on..
  5. Meh. We will need AAA arms to staff the AAA team when Berrios and the others are promoted right?
  6. I only follow the Twins, but I'd bet this team expends more resources scouting the independent leagues than other teams do. If this signing is simply to add an AAA arm because of all the imminent promotions of Berrios, Meyer, Burdi, Chargois, et al, then it's a good signing. I can see why lots more people would be more interested in signing a already proven MLB reliever directly to the 25-man roster, however.
  7. I will stick my neck out and assume this is NOT the big move...
  8. I think revenues matter but as I see it, there are the half-dozen teams on the coasts with their inherent advantages, and then there's everyone else. What is wrong with looking at it that way? Why does there have to be a hard arbitrary line drawn on revenues directly above the Twins?
  9. Yeah, our standards and the Twins front office standards for "holding your spot" are probably two different things.
  10. I hate to say, but like Nick I can also see Nolasco starting the season in the rotation. If he pitches well in spring (and by "well" I mean really, really well, then why not). But they should absolutely not play games. If he can't hold his rotation spot at any point this season the Twins are best off sending him packing his bags.
  11. I think the title of this article should be "Roster is a jumble, Part II." Especially if Ryan said the next thing on his list is to sign an outfielder?
  12. Hey don't look at me--my first choice is a platoon with Arcia!
  13. Looking only at the stat line, McGee looks like a younger, better version of Glen Perkins. That's worth something.
  14. Maybe Mauer can pick grounders and line shots better than Hosmer. I don't know. I do believe however that Mauer is still learning the position and has a ways to go before he gets good there. I'm sure other people disagree.
  15. No, just outfield, but thanks anyway.
  16. Nope, describing Oswaldo. I just clicked on career splits. His career OPS vs righties is .807 so it must have been even higher. I think we should forgive his 2015 season!
  17. You have just described Arcia. All you need to do is play him against righties. There's nothing to prioritize, as he is already on the team!
  18. Agree. The Giles for Velasquez+Appel trades are fun to follow because each team has to stick its neck out a little. Any trade involving Jose Fernandez will more closely resemble a hostage situation.
  19. I don't know if we have the pitching depth to take the hit on a trade like that, but corner IF/OF depth, yes, easily.
  20. so what were the Twins equivalents: Berrios, Stewart(Appel), maybe Milone or viable AAA arm, and low A guy?
  21. Looks like a good trade for both teams. Giles could be a monster. Was Appel even the Astros centerpiece do you think?
  22. If Mauer had slid head-first on that play, he would have been safe.
  23. Agree. If Mauer offered to move to right field, I bet the team would accommodate him. Between Sano, Plouffe, Park and Mauer, Mauer would probably have the most success out there (or do the least damage). Park's natural position is first base, too.
