  1. Oh I'd ride with you, just not to Miami to pick up Fernandez
  2. *jumps out, barrel rolls*
  3. Yes. I'm guessing it would take Berrios + Sano or Buxton for the Miami GM to listen through the end of the voice message without deleting. Throw in some more goodies and he might even return your call later, if he thinks of it. Also Fernamdez seems like a primadonna and Berrios, Buxton and Sano are all guys easy to root for. For me, that's all a bit too much. Other peoples mileage will vary.
  4. Active NBA players or all players retired and active?
  5. This quote from the Berardino blog certainly suggests that the Twins have had this conversation with Arcia too.
  6. By the way, what ever happened to #AllLivesMatter ?
  7. Those guys have ERA+ of 99, 97, and 90. They are the definition of mediocrity. All those signings tell us is that Ryan has gone from conservative to mediocre. Most people would love the old Ryan back, of just operating conservatively, developing minor league talent into good Major league ballplayers. With the added benefit of looking savvy and pocketing your owners that free agent money.
  8. Hi! I think you might be talking about me, from another thread. That is not actually even close to what I said, but I give you an E for Effort. But now that you mention it, I wouldn't say that school shootings are equal to terrorist attacks carried out in some far corner of the earth. I think school shootings are much worse, because we have the power to actually do something about them (most of them). The equivalence I was talking about was the relative deadness of the victims and devastation of the families.
  9. Well, this was a discussion, right? Anyway, give me some time and I'll get back to it later.
  10. As many or as few as you'd like I am hearing the word 'bastard' around on social media, that reporter during the press conference, and then posters here. Just wondering if it's a dog whistle. Sounds like it is but not sure. So again, answer away on those other links.
  11. Well, I was referring to the links in this thread. Links that other people are posting. Meanwhile let me ask you: why are you using the word bastards to describe them?
  12. Your article is just one small piece of the discussion. What are your thoughts on some of the other links other people are posting?
  13. Suzuki has been a 0.0 WAR player over the last four seasons. Except for the first half of 2014. Which still leaves seven other half seasons over the last four seasons. A zero WAR player is easily replaceable by just about anyone, almost by definition. I would include Pinto, should the Twins have somehow played him regularly last year. I would include Murphy as a good replacement for next year too, should the Twins play him regularly.
  14. Agree about Vargas. He needs to hit, hit, hit, and right away. I also think Vargas is a better fielder than Mauer at first (the Twins organization will naturally disagree, whether that's true or not). But like others, I suspect Vargas is just another AAAA guy, in the end. I am usually biased in favor of younger guys but I don't have my hopes up for Vargas like I do Arcia, Meyer, and even still Pinto and Danny Santana to some extent. The question does remain, who can step in and field first base well should Mauer go down. I think Vargas would be the best guy to do that.
  15. I definitely agree! Obviously there are things we don't know. Maybe Vargas is extremely immature. Who the heck knows. Not me. But for some players, like Arcia and Meyer especially, the handing seems to be something like "the beatings will continue until morale improves." Instead, the Twins should bring them up to MLB, show some confidence in them, and maybe good things happen?
  16. I think we should sign Ortiz sometime in 2017, just for one day, so that he can retire a Twin. Have a great big ceremony and press conference.
  17. Vargas was brought up as a first baseman and Mauer is presently emplaced there ahead of him. Neither is going to be winning a gold glove any time soon. Sounds like the Twins want to make a serious run and are hoping/betting on Mauer reverting to old form.
  18. It was about ISIS, but the author often drifted into a "history of the Middle East" discourse to make his point or perhaps bolster his credibility. If he and his editor agreed to write the article so broadly, they could certainly have found room to briefly mention the United State's own mass shooters, whose victims end up just as dead and families just as destroyed.
  19. You are getting at one of the big beefs I have with the Atlantic article. The author continually, and solemnly, stresses how ISIS takes the Koran at its literal word, and how ominous this is for the rest of the world. Yet, the author does not once (except for parenthetically) even hint or suggest that there are Christians here in the United States who do the same, and with the same conviction and violence. Very well written and researched article, but like most writings could do with about a 20-30% edit of material to tighten it up. (just my opinion)
  20. For sure. I just wonder if he's a guy that gets energized by being in MLB. Maybe his attitude suffers but so what. He wouldn't be the first. We already know he has a ton of talent for hitting a baseball.
  21. I'm not giving Arcia a pass, any more than some people gave Danny Santana a pass. You can't explain that one, so I won't ask you to try.
  22. People advocate non-intervention (or call it diplomacy) because it's less horrible than the alternative. Granted, diplomacy can also fail too, for whatever reasons.
  23. What you are advocating is what got us into this mess in the first place.
  24. Yes I am too. I don't know your opinion on Arcia, but I am concerned Arcia isn't getting a fair shake, and possibly for reasons other than baseball reasons. I admit Arcia is a barely adequate outfielder, but as a hitter he is very, very good against righties. Who make up the majority of pitchers.
  25. Let's hope the West tries this, soon.
