    Mea culpa. I took a closer look at the Kepler photo Seth posted, and Kepler is clearly a guy who spends regular time in the weight room. As spycake said, my impression of Kepler last September had been the 6'4" 205 guy who couldn't fill out a uniform, but looks like I wasn't paying attention close enough. He is impressive.     Kepler looks too willowy to be a five tool guy. I wonder how well the minor league power will transfer to MLB. At minimum I'd like to see him add some weight. There again, Buxton is built like a reed but can hit the ball a mile.

    I love Burdi, though I've never seen him live. He got demoted to A+ from AA which I assume is rare, but when he came back to AA at the end he was lights out. I'm not a huge list guy so I like having the one big list all in one page.

    True. However, as a matter of preference, I would rather see a young guy come up and struggle than watch an end-of-the-road vet like Nolasco pitch slightly-below average in the attempt to salvage some value from him. In the case of Meyer, he wasn't called up in 2014 so we don't know. If we hypothetically kept Berrios in the minors for the entire 2016 season I would imagine he would hit a real rough patch at some point like Meyer did, and his confidence would sag, too, just like Meyer's apparently did.

    In 2014, it was Meyer being passed over for promotion (when he was pitching well) for a bunch of 30-year-old rookie types who are no longer with the organization. In 2015, it was the Pelfrey-May thing. Now in 2016 there are still enough mediocre vets around and promising young guys in the mix that we might see the situation play out again. I wouldn't call it brainless, but maybe more like an irrational bias against young guys, whether due to perceived lack of maturity, or belief that they're fragile, or who knows what.

    I feel that Tonkin and Santana have very little long term value to this team, or even much value beyond past May or June. Hopefully they perform well and move on to another organization when the younger, better guys take their turn.

    I'm not sure. Parker ran that article last October about how Plouffe was fourth-worst in MLB at hitting fastballs for batting average. That's scary. I do think Plouffe is an asset with the glove, I just don't share the optimism that he is sure to continue as the hitting threat that he has been in the past.

    Santana was starting his season fresh in late June-July, which is about the time (anecdotally) that the other guys are starting to feel the strain. I read or heard that Phil Hughes came to Twins Fest in great shape. Maybe Hughes rebounds to be our ace in 2016?

    Honest question for spycake and drjim and anyone else: Setting aside service time and team control, just in terms of ball playing, how would you rank these four: Dickerson, Rosario, Arcia, Kepler? I'm not sure my order, and I don't know if Dickerson or Kepler really separate themselves from Rosario too much, given Rosario's demonstrated defense already. ...hopefully not getting too far off topic, but I always thought with the surplus of talent on the Twins, the best bet for a reliever might have been via trade rather than free agency, though always certainly helpful to know who the free agents are.

    Some interesting comparisons, since Dickerson is a lefty-hitting outfielder, and the Twins currently have 3 of those.     Interesting that Tampa Bay just traded away Jake McGee. The Twins would have seemed to be a great trading partner. Plenty of young outfielders in our system, which was what McGee sold for. The Rays also look light at catcher. I wonder if the Twins might have sweetened the pot last year when they traded for Jepsen and got back McGee instead.

    Good to see Eddie and Dozier together. Hoping that's the DP combo again this year. I'm a little unclear on whether you said Dozier is planning to hire a nutritionist this year, or did last year, or if the Twins don't have decent options available inside the clubhouse, or what. Doesn't matter; sounds like you had fun.

    Your bullpen comments are a real gut check. I agree with you on the bullpen controversy this year, though it's yet to be seen how that turns out. I could honestly care less how high or low the team payroll is, so long as they are putting the best players on the field and winning. Most of the best players are making the least amount, anyway.

    True, Rosario has poor peripherals but he produces. He might have to make a trip back to Rochester for a time. His outfield assists are impacting opponents base running. I feel Rosario is our present and future left fielder and I would be disappointed if the Twins didn't see it that way too (save for a possible injury or demotion at some point)

    In prior off seasons, Meyer did substitute teaching, if I recall correctly. This offseason he got married and I presume took a honeymoon and got his mind off baseball. Next offseason he runs for city council in Rochester, N.Y. (kidding about that last one). I am very much a pro-Meyer guy and hope he has some good innings in ST and either way he needs to be brought north, I believe.

    Yes and thank you for not repeating the old cliche that he "needs to stay healthy." Meyer has actually been pretty healthy in his career except for the precautionary rest he took in 2013 for his shoulder. You cited his good ERA and BA-against when he was sent to the Bullpen. Then, in his final 10 appearances, going off memory, he had something like 22 innings, 25 base runners (half hits, half walks), 22 strikeouts, and a pretty good 30%+ strikeout rate. Maybe last September would have been a good time to have him up here, while he's pitching fairly well. My feeling is if Meyer pitches well in spring training the Twins really need to make a spot for him and use him right away in roles that are a little more important than first inning mop up duty (as was the case in his MLB debut). He was hailed as an ace when he was traded for. Too early to give up on him or pigeonhole him in the BP.
