    By the time Mauer is eligible, he will probably be considered the guy who dominated his position between the Pudge years and Posey years, and probably not as good as either. And as Ted wrote, Mauer needs to turn around his hitting significantly and sustain it, or it will be a rough road.

    I'm bullish on the bullpen. Your mileage may vary. I thought that the bullpen would improve for 2016 simply by doing nothing (namely, parting ways with Boyer, Duensing and maybe even Fien), but that's provided smart decisions are made going forward about the other guys. I'm optimistic about guys like Pressly, Burdi, and Meyer, if not on Day 1 then soon after. I'm partial to O'Rourke in a LOOGY role, big league slider and 38% K rate against lefties, though Molitor justifiably lost confidence in him after that Yankee series. Tonkin has a career ERA of 3.35 but its more like 12.94 in games I've watched him. Throw in Chargois and whoever else you want, and it gets even more crowded. I think there is enough in the system to give us good choices, but there is certainly room for a high quality sign or trade, too.

    I think they are way too optimistic on their high end projection for Park (Kris Bryant? really?) though granted some of the Kris Bryant projections can get ridiculous themselves. Otherwise yeah interesting new site to check out.

    I assume your strike zone and contact rate stats are the MLB stats? I'm not sure I want to see his minor league rate stats from last year. They are no doubt awful. So much to say about this guy. Platoon and stringer bell said it well, as did otwins, because I agree I just don't see what playing time Arcia gets other than as an occasional bench bat. Which is a shame because he can destroy right handed pitching. It's the one thing he does well, but best case, he can do it exceptionally well. By acquiring Park and Palka, on top of all the other guys striking out increasingly, the Twins can no longer cite strikeouts as a knock against Arcia. By planning to use Sano in the outfield, poor defense cannot be used against Arcia. Sure Arcia is emotional and excitable, but maturity comes with time. That's why I agree with your overall argument but disagree with your conclusion, as I think it's the burden of the Twins to capitalize on Arcia's single talent, rather than the opposite, of Arcia having to prove himself. He already has proved himself, in my opinion.

    I think O'Rourke is underrated. That is a devastating slider he has.

    Good job. I agree (mostly) and if Buxton is ready for the leadoff spot, we will be golden. Just a technical point--I don't think the Twins were dabbling with the idea of Tulowitzki, but more like the Twins Daily posters were dabbling with it. and in our defense, Danny Santana was still the starting shortstop at that time. Escobar didn't take over for good until the final days of July.

    As stated, as long as the key word is 'temporary,' I can get behind this move. If May struggles in the bullpen, we can always demote him back to the starting rotation? The bullpen keeps filling up, however. The order of relievers is now Jepsen, May, Perkins, Fien, Abad. I agree with spy that Abad seems to be virtually a lock. I don't see Abad as an upgrade over O'Rourke but to each their own. No idea where all the other guys listed above fit in to this. It will be interesting to see who Ryan cuts this spring. He's been adding more than subtracting, so there will have to be some surprising names.

    I pant at the prospect of his bat... if that means he plays in the outfield for the first 6-8 innings most nights, I can live with that. Arcia may be bad, but it's not like he's Kyle Schwarber bad

    Do the Twins promote college relievers too slowly? Anyone have any data comparisons?

    I only follow the Twins, but I'd bet this team expends more resources scouting the independent leagues than other teams do. If this signing is simply to add an AAA arm because of all the imminent promotions of Berrios, Meyer, Burdi, Chargois, et al, then it's a good signing. I can see why lots more people would be more interested in signing a already proven MLB reliever directly to the 25-man roster, however.

    Yeah, our standards and the Twins front office standards for "holding your spot" are probably two different things.

    I hate to say, but like Nick I can also see Nolasco starting the season in the rotation. If he pitches well in spring (and by "well" I mean really, really well, then why not). But they should absolutely not play games. If he can't hold his rotation spot at any point this season the Twins are best off sending him packing his bags.

    Nope, describing Oswaldo. I just clicked on career splits. His career OPS vs righties is .807 so it must have been even higher. I think we should forgive his 2015 season!

    You have just described Arcia. All you need to do is play him against righties. There's nothing to prioritize, as he is already on the team!

    Probably true but I think Thrylos's point still stands. We now know that San Diego had interest in Pinto and Thielbar, and San Diego was open to trading Craig Kimbrel, and the Twins have prospects who will never see the field anymore (Vargas), so it's fair to wonder if: a group of new or slightly-used prospects, + one valuable guy (Gibson? Kepler?), might have landed Kimbrel last July. I know it's all hindsight and we don't have much information, but it's not that far-fetched to consider.

    If you are responding to the post immediately above yours, I would use O'Rourke as a 6-7 inning lefty specialist, and not pigeon hole Perkins into the "closer" role, but use him situationally like the end of last season. Yes they still need another high quality relief arm but at that point it doesn't matter to me what arm he throws with. Additionally, Sean Gilmartin and Liam Hendriks turned into decent relief options for postseason teams last season. So it's not exactly ridiculous to ask if the solutions to our relief problems are already on our roster.

    I'm in the minority in wanting O'Rourke to start the season as the loogy. He got shaky at the end but overall struck out almost 40% of lefties. That is a really, really big number. The Twins response is, "we are looking for lefties who can strike out both right handed and left handed hitters." Then my response would be, ok, then go sign a high quality free agent.
