    I am sure the Twins can compete in 2022 if they improve their pitching. We had a similar conversation about Brian Dozier after the 100-loss 2016 season. Against the wishes of fans on this discussion board, the Twins kept Dozier instead of trading him—and then he helped lead the Twins to the postseason the following season. I had a lot of confidence in this front office at that time. Let’s add to the pitching staff between now and 2022, instead of subtracting from it, and go into next year and see what happens. Anyone confident that the front office can negotiate a nice return for Berrios now should be equally confident that they can negotiation a slightly less nice return for Berrios a year from now, if need be.

    I’m convinced 29 out of 30 MLB managers send Ober out for the fifth.

    Not only for Ober, but the other pitchers. Guys like to see their teammates succeed and achieve things. It could have been a nicer game ball moment after the game. It doesn’t mean much in the grand scheme, no, but it seems punitive for Rocco to withhold that small statistical accomplishment from him. Not a fan of how that went down.

    Well, if it was me, the Twins would still be on Year 4 of the Darvish contract. Do you want to continue?

    Rocco predicted Pineda would get a long rest, so an IL stint seems imminent. I do think many teams would claim Dobnak but who knows, roster situations seem kind of wonky in 2021. I wouldn’t rush Duran and a couple of these other guys just because to save this season. They’re the seed corn and need to stay on their own timetable. We probably do see Duran in 2021 anyway. That will be fun. However I would consider accelerating some other guys in preparation for 2022. I will throw out two names: Villamont and Faucher. They are in AA now and in a normal year wouldn’t have a shot at all, but, let’s take a look. Others on this board might have other names the would like to see. As you say, it’s a total mess.

    It’s time. (Past time.) Shoemaker has earned roughly $20 million dollars as a ball player in his career. No need to shed a tear.

    Good article. I’m rooting for Gordon. He has nice energy for 2021. I don’t know why Riddle and Blankenhorn were given priority. I am usually a skeptical of infielders in the outfield but that was a nice grab of a hard hit ball, albeit with an expected 77% catch chance. If what you say is true, and Gordon is limited to second base, that means the Twins have basically three second baseman to consider for 2022: Arraez, Polanco, and Gordon.

    53 Our Twins are on a season-long 53-win pace in games started by someone other than Berrios. That amounts to a 53-109 record, six games worse than the 2016 team.

    It could even be someone who hasn’t been called up yet! Okay, enough snark. A couple weeks ago, I would have put Kirilloff and Pineda on this list, as well. Sometimes there is some horse-trading, depending on who the managers are. I’m not sure the Twins would want to send Kirilloff. Who knows.

    That’s the catch. Sano can get on a couple of nice streaks during the season, but during the post-season, when pitchers are better and more focused on batter weaknesses, Sano becomes a liability.

    It’s a valid opinion that I do not happen to agree with, but do you really think the Twins could trade all that talent, and still replace/develop it in time to contend for something in 2023?
