  1. They were 3 games under on June 26. I said they needed 16 wins to buy at the deadline. They are 1-3 since and are now 5 games under .500. 23 games remain until the trade deadline. To be buyers they need to go 15-8. The peak of the probability bell curve is probably at 9-14. I don't really want to do the weighted coin probabilities right now to figure out how unlikely 15-8 (or better) is. Baseball Reference gives them a 95.5% chance of missing the postseason.
  2. I have a feeling you would not be a fan of Julien's "wait for the pitcher to make a mistake" approach.
  3. Jackie Robinson received death threats (thousands). Hank Aaron has a whole chapter of his autobiography dedicated to the vile things people sent him in the mail. Roger Maris received death threats. Barry Bonds received death threats. The difference now is it doesn't just seem to be the major players who receive all the negative attention. Lance McCullers, Paul Sewald, Mitch Garver, Bailey Ober and Liam Hendriks are not major stars.
  4. It's a bet on talent over recent performance. Betting on Lewis is betting that his talent shows up quickly. If they just keep following the plan they created before the 2024 season, eventually it will work. They're not big fans of Sun Tzu.
  5. There is no reason to bench Kody Clemens to put Julien in the lineup.
  6. I wouldn't say that people experience worse today than they did previously. Fans have been abusing players verbally since the 1800s. I can't say with a straight face that the abuse they hand out today is worse than what Jackie Robinson endured in the 1950s. I do agree that people can do better. We don't have to live in a world of nasty, violent horribleness.
  7. The biggest problem with moving Correa to 3B is the Twins don't need a third baseman. Brooks Lee is perfectly fine at 3B and Royce Lewis can handle the position as well. Moving Correa to 3B probably means trading Correa or trading someone else. If the Yankees call about Correa at this deadline, and Correa is interested, I'd trade him and not expect much in return. He's a great ballplayer but not a good fit for the future.
  8. And I won't, which means you really don't care much about convincing me of anything.
  9. Culpepper is going to get a lot of attention, mainly because he is the only infielder in the system who looks like he could be an average glove at SS. He might fall short, but nobody else even looks close.
  10. You haven't proven that point. 5 runs below average is a long way from "not viable".
  11. American democracy has been getting things wrong for 250 years. It didn't start recently. Democracy is messy. An idea doesn't have to be good, it just needs 51% support.
  12. Who is going to pitch in blowouts now?
  13. I am assuming this move doesn't happen until Culpepper is ready. Half the MLB teams have a "below average" SS on defense.
  14. Right now I think he needs to take one for the team and work on it in the big leagues. They don't have anyone better to use.
  15. Fun fact - Kody Clemens doesn't even hit arbitration until 2027. If they sell all the expiring contracts they're going to need Clemens just to play out the remaining games.
