  1. What is the Venn diagram of "I'm never paying for another game as long as the Pohlads own the team" and "I love Luis Arraez, he's a player worth the ticket price"?
  2. Most of the relievers the Twins have dealt away have performed worse for their new team. The Twins have somehow been able to finish out games with their remaining players and flotsam acquired for free. It's getting harder to claim that Rocco "doesn't know how to manage a bullpen".
  3. Who? I can't think of any. If they exist, why aren't they on the roster right now?
  4. Aaron Sabato as your "Plan A" would be a really bad idea. He's not one of the top ten first basemen in AAA. I'd rather give 30-year old Nick Solak the job.
  5. The question is not Yes or No but “At what price should the Twins be interested?” I wouldn’t advocate signing Arraez to a multiyear multimillion dollar contract. One year at $5M or less would be fine.
  6. They're tired of the Pirates making the most money by not competing and cashing revenue sharing checks. They want to limit the top-end salaries so the big market teams are the ones making the most profit. They're going to buy off the small market teams with windfall expansion dollars. They're also going to make sure that the floor guarantees profitability. The Pirates will still be profitable by cashing revenue sharing dollars, but they won't be the MOST profitable team.
  7. Go get some minor league free agents and pick the best ones. Move a couple of the SP prospects who can't make the rotation into the bullpen. Pitchers sorted oldest to youngest (numbers from Fangraphs, may not be up to date as of 8/29) David Festa 25.5 Zebby Matthews 25.3 Simeon Woods Richardson 24.9 (out of options 2026) Connor Prielipp 24.6 Taj Bradley 24.4 Mick Abel 24.0 Andrew Morris 24.0 CJ Culpepper 23.8 Marco Raya 23.1 Kendry Rojas 22.8 The Twins need some minor league depth with options, but do they need 8 starters in the minors?
  8. That has nothing to do with a salary cap. If the owners want to share TV revenue more evenly that solves 90% of the problems. Share the media revenue 100% since that comes from merely existing in the league. Stop sharing in-stadium revenue to incentivize teams to sell out their stadiums (win games = more money). They can easily do this without a labor stoppage. $3M minimum salary would be a good floor. The owners are pushing for a hard salary cap because busting the union gives them a lot more money. If the salary cap didn't make them money, they wouldn't want it. It's that simple. I don't think MLB thinks that parity is the biggest issue. The league maximizes revenues when the Dodgers and Yankees are in the playoffs every year. It isn't good for business to have a perennial contender in Milwaukee or Kansas City. They're using parity as a smokescreen to get the fans on their side when they lock out the players. If they get a salary cap, I'm guessing they'll set it up in a way that keeps the Yankees and the Dodgers in the playoffs.
  9. I'm sure we'll get one (or a dozen) in about a month. There's still all of September to consider. Drops don't usually happen unless there is an add so I'd group them by priority. Players who need to be added - Gonzalez, Prielipp, Rojas, Morris, Mendez, Culpepper. Don't dump your top 30 prospects, especially when they're in AA/AAA. Maybe added - Schobel, Fedko, Rosario, Cardenas, Olivar. I think they could find a trade partner for Fedko (someone who wants to be able to option him) and add Rosario. I doubt they add Cardenas or Olivar or one would be catching right now instead of Mickey Gasper. Schobel and Rosario could get drafted, but can they stick on a roster for a whole season? Free agents: Christian Vazquez, Genesis Cabrera Marginal out-of-options relievers - Hatch, Kriske, Tonkin, Misiewicz, Davis Marginal out-of-options position players - Julien, Miranda, Outman That's 10 open spots. Could be non-tendered/cut without worrying: Keirsey, McCusker, Fitzgerald, Gasper Trade bait: Larnach That's 15 open spots without even thinking about marginal relievers with options (Ohl, Adams, Funderburk), Kody Clemens or Austin Martin. They have 2 players on the 60-day IL which will reduce that to 13 spots.
  10. Emmanuel Rodriguez is healthy again, right? Get him some at-bats in the majors.
  11. What we are likely to see is Pereda until Vazquez returns.
  12. It would have been funnier if TC had dumped Taylor.
  13. I am assuming one of Ryan, Lopez and Ober gets traded. I am guessing it will be Ryan because he will return the most in trade. They probably want to keep Ober and see if he has more value at the 2026 trade deadline. Lopez will stay because they don't need to dump any more salary and they do need a veteran in the rotation. As usual, when figuring out the rotation, start with options. Simeon Woods Richardson is out of options next season, so he is a lock for the rotation. Festa, Abel and Matthews will each have 2 options and Bradley will have one. That gives Bradley the next spot. They need 8 starters, so I don't see Festa, Abel or Matthews moved to the bullpen. I think they will fill the bullpen with minor league free agents like Blewett. Morris, Raya, Rojas, Prielipp and CJ Culpepper will all start the season optioned to the minors.
  14. I would be fine with picking Santana up for the remainder of the season. They need better defense to support these young pitchers.
  15. I believe they gain a year of service time if they option Matthews. I expect Matthews to get optioned for SWR.
  16. Julien is just as bad at 1B as he is at 2B. A good 1B gets that throw off the bounce, the hop wasn't that difficult. I don't see him returning next season. He's a platoon DH and that isn't good enough to earn a roster spot for most MLB teams.
  17. It is really difficult to see Outman earning a roster spot with this team next spring and he's out of options. Over 2024-25 he has a .520 OPS and 87K in 232PA (37.5% strikeouts). 14 K in 32 PA for the Twins (43.75%). He is whiffing more than half the time against breaking and offspeed pitches. I know they were trading an injured pitcher, but Outman is such a bad return to get back in trade, especially considering the timetable when this team is trying to compete.
  18. For their new teams, it's actually Pitcher Name ERA WHIP IP Jhoan Duran 1.17 0.77 7.2 (excellent) Griffin Jax 8.59 1.636 7.1 (horrible) Danny Coulombe 4.50 1.375 8.0 (mediocre) Brock Stewart 4.91 2.18 3.2 (bad, then out injured) Louis Varland 5.59 1.552 9.2 (bad) The Twins have leaned pretty heavily on Sands and Topa and both have pitched pretty well. Hatch has also done good work. Erasmo Ramirez was effective (somehow) for 11 innings. The only pitcher they've missed is Duran and I don't think they want to hit the "undo" button on that trade.
  19. Interesting possible free agents 1B - Luis Arraez - is he actually going to get paid or is he going to be valued like Ty France? 1B - Miguel Andujar - could be that veteran pickup who gets dealt at the deadline SS - Isaiah Kiner-Falefa - the young pitchers could use a strong defense behind them.
