  1. He’s had years of coaching. I’m afraid he might not be all that smart.
  2. That is wins above replacement. Everything is first calculated as runs above replacement, then they divide by 10 (or a number close to 10) to get to WAR.
  3. But they already have two other CF. They don’t have to play Martin in CF. They have 6 OF plus Kody Clemens on the roster now.
  4. They have Buxton and Outman ahead of Martin on the CF depth chart.
  5. Deadline buyers are usually looking for good pitchers. The Twins added Trevor Richards last summer but that isn’t typical.
  6. Please, no. I don’t want Keirsey taking at-bats away from anyone. He is never going to help this franchise win.
  7. A contract extension for Jeffers should be a priority.
  8. That sucks. Lopez will be up in a few days and Davis returned to AAA, but I was hoping to see Emmanuel Rodriguez instead of Keirsey and I'd much rather give Abel innings than Adams.
  9. Wallner has 35 RBI in 335 PA Arraez has 49 RBI in 578 PA Looking at career stats Wallner 123 RBI in 914 PA Arraez 296 RBI in 3436 PA Matt Wallner drives in runs at a higher rate than Luis Arraez. It's a lot harder to drive in a run with a single than it is with a double or a HR.
  10. I don't see Lee as a long-term solution at SS and I'm not impressed with Keaschall at 2B. I agree that they'll give both players lots of innings but there is an opportunity to DH Keaschall more often or replace players on defense in late innings.
  11. If Austin Martin can keep fouling off the pitches he doesn't want to hit, he can continue to decide late. This will help him draw walks and get on base. I guessed before I even clicked into the article that someone would try to turn it into a "Let's bash Matt Wallner" thread. I'm not following that bait. I will say that no major league team is going to be successful if every player has exactly the same approach. That means the opposing pitchers can make one game plan and get your batters out every single night. You need on-base guys and power guys. You need guys that attack fastballs and others who crush breaking balls. You need lefthanded and righthanded bats. It's the mix-and-match approach that works best. Someone in the lineup needs to match up against the opposing starting pitcher's weaknesses.
  12. Rocco should give Buxton a green light on the bases for the rest of the season. It would be great to see a Twin on the 30/30 list.
  13. There is one immediate downside to large market teams. It forces fans to pick one team instead of following both teams in NY, LA and Chicago. You can’t be a White Sox fan and a Cubs fan when they’re rivals in the same division.
  14. I guess I don’t see Rutschman as a better bet to rebound than Ober. Both have been better in prior seasons. Baltimore needs pitching and the Twins need another catcher.
  15. It is funny how the Disney/Fox merger forced Fox to divest the regional sports networks, which bankrupted them, which led to the Twins ending up on ESPN anyway.
  16. Zebby Matthews was mentioning in his interview last night how valuable it is to have Lopez and Ryan on the team and how much he has learned in his off the field preparation from them.
  17. They're not getting a cheap, ace pitcher for an average catcher getting paid an average wage. That's delusional. Mountcastle might be non-tendered, he's projected to make $10M in arbitration. If your paycheck is equal to your production, you don't have much trade value. That's true with Ober, Larnach, Rutschman and Mountcastle.
  18. Interesting, but almost certainly less valuable than keeping Ryan and Lopez.
  19. MLB batting average 1977 - .264 MLB batting average 2025 - .246 That's a 20 point drop in league batting average and the hitters are better now than they were then. With Arraez, all you get is batting average. He's slow, has no power and is a bad fielder.
  20. I agree with this, especially with a young pitching staff. Isaiah Kiner-Falefa is apparently on waivers and would be an upgrade on Ryan Fitzgerald.
  21. I have no idea why they're fooling around with Genesis Cabrera. He's an impending free agent. At least Hatch and Kriske still have team control remaining. If they need a lefty to eat innings to finish the season I'd rather they grab Jose Castillo off waivers from the Mets.
  22. Austin Martin is playing like he deserves spot on a big league roster. Still making mistakes but the good has outweighed the bad. Dude gets on base.
  23. I think they are sure to trade one of Ryan, Ober and Lopez this winter. I don't think they need to trade more than one of them. I agree with this. They have plenty of prospects, especially for the outfield. They need a 2nd catcher, a first baseman and some relief pitching. I'm not trading Joe Ryan or Pablo Lopez for that. Ideally they can trade Ober to a team that wants to overlook 2025. He's probably not in the top 5 on the depth chart anymore. Pablo / Ryan / Bradley / Matthews / SWR looks like a competitive rotation with plenty of depth in AAA. Festa might be the pitcher who moves to the bullpen and dominates. I proposed Ober and Larnach to the Orioles for Rutschman and Mountcastle. That trade could help both teams.
  24. Important to remember that Abel is about where Zebby and Festa were in their development last season. He really needs to fail at the MLB level to make progress.
  25. 20 years ago was 2005 and people were abundantly aware that batting average is not telling the whole story in 2005. You have to go back at least 40 years to find people overrating Steve Garvey and the like.
