  1. The Twins are swimming in cash and the projections show the team getting cheaper.
  2. "A defensive whiz SS that can hit 230-240 with some pop and steal some bags would be a nice player to have around" Yes, as a utility infielder. I think Florimon just had his career year offensively - he's never hit 9 HR before at any level. He has a little room for improvement defensively that comes with experience but his tools are not going to improve. His bat is likely to be sub .600 OPS again. He's not a great base stealer though I think a couple of his CS are failed hit-and-runs. He's a good guy to have on a bench but not the guy I want as a starter.
  3. Jason Kubel
  4. Health matters a lot to the Twins. They're rumored to be willing to give Garza the $$ but not the years.
  5. Good place to spend their money. I wonder if they'll still be interested in Diaz when he is cleared to sign in February.
  6. Looks pretty close. That last roster spot will come down to Kubel, Colabello, Parmelee, a utility infielder or a 13th pitcher.
  7. Wow. Terry Ryan's done with all of his shopping before Christmas and they're right around last year's budget. Usually he's waiting for the post-Christmas sales.
  8. It's even more difficult when you don't add anyone that is above average.
  9. PWAA, RA+. My favorite quick counting stat for pitchers is K-BB.
  10. If Doumit doesn't want to catch he should retire. Nobody is going to want him on their team if he won't catch.
  11. Players that haven't been mentioned elsewhere Danny Santana - the Twins coaching staff likes his game. He finally drew some walks last year. Alex Meyer - I think he's in the big leagues by June Adrian Salcedo - could move quickly as a reliever Zach Jones - just keeps striking guys out
  12. I like guys who can play baseball. I've never really cared if they're good at TV interviews.
  13. No LF? You've completely given up on Aaron Hicks?
  14. Duensing and Burton are bullpen depth. Both can be replaced by free agents.
  15. I don't think Bert Blyleven gave up 18 HR for every flyball.
  16. I hope the Twins continue looking for promising bullpen pitchers even though the bullpen seems to be in decent shape. I think the Twins should be as interested in Stephen Drew as they apparently are in Saltalamacchia.
  17. Eric Chavez is from Los Angeles. I have seen elsewhere that he doesn't speak much Spanish. What is your source?
  18. Pierzynski's bat plays better at Fenway than in MN. I love that the Red Sox are bowing out on Saltalamacchia. If the Twins don't get Saltalamacchia then I like John Buck.
  19. I was more interested in the rumor that the Twins have NOT reached out to Scott Baker. It is telling that they've talked to everyone but him.
  20. Dioner Navarro could provide what most of what they're looking for from Saltalamacchia (LH bat, decent catcher) at a fraction of the cost. It will be interesting to see what happens.
  21. An average defensive catcher is needed because Doumit and Pinto are both below average. Good catchers make pitchers better so you can think of some of the $$ as going to upgrade the pitching staff.
  22. No. I expect Mauer to have more value than Fielder at 1B in 2014 and going forward. Fielder is an AWFUL first baseman but I expect Mauer to compete for the gold glove.
  23. All Sano has to do is beat out Trevor Plouffe. That isn't impossible for a player already hitting well in AA.
  24. The Twins have two more option years on Colabello and should use those options to stash him in AAA as a backup in case of injury. I'm not worried about David Ortiz redux. Worst case scenario is Colabello doesn't get his shot to be another Garrett Jones. I don't like signing AJ Pierzysnki because he is not a good defender behind the plate anymore. I want to see them sign a catcher with a good glove to help the pitchers prevent runs.
  25. Thanks Jeremy Nygard. This explains quite a bit of how they've been handling Kepler.
