  1. I doubt the Twins will give Sano a September callup mostly due to roster considerations. Sano will play winter ball. I know they'll have him competing for the 3B job in spring training next season. Terry Ryan has a lot of work to do to acquire pitching this offseason. If Plouffe can help get a pitcher he will be gone, just like Ben Revere. If Plouffe is still here in April he will keep Sano in AAA for a little while until they can trade Trevor. Ryan has to manage his assets during this transition. Several veteran players (Plouffe, Doumit, Willingham, Burton, Duensing, Correia) will be shopped this offseason as Terry Ryan remakes his roster with younger players (Tonkin, Pinto, Hicks, Sano, etc). I agree that they won't worry about service time with Sano. He's a good candidate for an Evan Longoria type contract. Having Target Field is supposed to mean they don't have to nickel and dime their own players.
  2. Nishioka only cost $6M in the grand scheme of things. They should make bets like that all the time. If only one pays off they're way ahead. The only thing that disturbs me about Nishioka is how wrong the scouts were about his defense.
  3. Buxton is only one level behind Rosario. It won't be two years between their debuts.
  4. He's not on the 40 man roster so it is not likely.
  5. Have the Twins EVER picked up salary in a trade?
  6. If he's drafted in the Rule 5 draft he's 99% coming back after spring training. Wimmers is getting roughed up in rookie ball and hasn't pitched effectively since 2010. He's pitched one game above A-ball. He's not ready to spend next year on a big league roster. That would be a minor miracle. I don't think the Twins would cut him during the offseason but he might be cut after spring training next year if he hasn't regained his velocity.
  7. There is a bigger likelihood that Wimmers gets released than he gets selected in the Rule 5 draft. I suppose a team could take him and stash him on the disabled list all year but they still have to keep him on the roster for 90 days.
  8. Going out on a limb here but I think Pinto is the only player who hasn't seen the majors yet who gets a September callup.
  9. Is he better than Plouffe yet? Probably not. Plouffe is getting the playing time this September.
  10. Strikeout to walk ratio is not good. Roenicke and Pressly are the least likely to be in next year's bullpen.
  11. Mauer's defense matters. You've never heard of a passed ball, wild pitch or a stolen base?
  12. Leave him in AA but bump him up to AAA if they need an extra player for the pennant race. Same for anyone else in AA at this point in the season (Rosario, Meyer, May, Santana, Ortiz, etc). There is less than a month left in the minor league season. The only player on the 40 man roster who hasn't been with the Twins yet that merits a Sept callup is Josmil Pinto. Gardy would love having four catchers on the roster.
  13. Imagine how bad the Twins' no-strikeout pitching staff would look without Dozier, Florimon, Mauer and Hicks up the middle.
  14. You really think they're going to have Jake Mauer tell Joe he's moving off catcher? How about when it's time to tell Joe he has to be a bench player? I can see Jake joining the major league coaching staff but he'll need to spend some time in the high minors first (AA opening soon?).
  15. I can't see Jake Mauer as the manager as long as Joe Mauer is on the team.
  16. They'll need several infielders. Dozier could be an above average utility player. It's okay for the second tier talent to give you options on the bench.
  17. Dozier skips AAA, lays an egg in the big leagues and eventually figures it out. Hicks skips AAA, lays an egg in the big leagues, ???? It is a good idea for Rosario and Sano to spend some time in AAA too. Skipping AAA only works for the most elite prospects.
