  1. "Tanner Vavra (22-64) .344/.391/.438" Is it wrong to say "Good eye, Tanner!"?
  2. Hicks to the concussion DL is likely. Darnell comes up but they aren't sticking with 14 pitchers for more than a game. If Darnell stays then Theilbar is getting optioned down.
  3. If they bring up Bernier it is to sit on the bench. I really dislike the idea of continuing to play a batter who can't hit. I suppose it doesn't matter which one sits on the bench right now.
  4. Need a placeholder? Why not try Escobar full-time and bring up Doug Bernier to be the utility guy? Bernier won't be great but he's seeing the ball well right now.
  5. Those guys are in A-ball and have ETA of 2016 at the earliest. Also, you can never have enough pitching.
  6. Nolasco 5.9IP/start Hughes 5.6 Gibson 5.6 Correia 5.4 Pelfrey 4.9 All Meyer has to do is pitch 5.5 IP / start with better rate production than Correia.
  7. I have the solution - don't start Pelfrey again until July!
  8. Correia is a mediocre pitcher who is being paid market value. There is little marginal value there.
  9. I think Turner and Garver will keep any Suzuki extension short. I'm not sure Suzuki would want an extension when Pinto is breathing down his neck. I don't think he's ready to be a backup yet.
  10. Nolasco was terrible at that last week against the Rays. His ball was moving but he couldn't hit his spots. If Nolasco hits his spots he's pitching as well as last year.
  11. Willingham has always taken a fair share of walks. Arcia hasn't but maybe he'll learn now.
  12. That might be Deolis Guerra's most important contribution to the organization. I'm fine with giving Meyer a few starts in AAA to prove he knows how to control his new changeup.
  13. Kind of ironic statement since Pinto was never on a top prospect list and Hicks has the 1st round draft pedigree
  14. One thing I have noticed about Mauer's play at 1B is he takes it to the bag himself more than anyone I've seen. Is there a reason he doesn't trust the P to cover the bag? That might burn him one of these days either by arriving too late or running into the pitcher. Taking it the other way is tied to the walks. Mauer can make decisions on whether to swing later. The longer he waits the more likely he is to walk. It also means he's unlikely to pull a ball.
  15. Same idea. Why not flip the roles of Escobar and Florimon?
  16. Not thousands, they gave a minimum 1500 PAs, just a couple hundred. He's batting 150 points higher than league average. If he tried doing it more often he would be less successful at it. Is the biggest criticism anyone can come up with for Mauer is he's too picky swinging at the first pitch? That's not much of a criticism. He's very successful with his approach. It certainly doesn't explain why people whine so much.
  17. Gladly http://www.beyondtheboxscore.com/2014/3/31/5560710/first-pitch-hitting He hit .484 with a .796 slugging on the first pitch.
  18. Yes, there is one guy who has a higher OBP than Mauer - you found him.
  19. Watching baseball for the post-game interviews is like watching porn for the plot and dialogue.
  20. He does. Joe Mauer has the highest average in baseball when he makes contact with the first pitch. He's just really picky because he knows he has to be right more than 40% of the time for it to pay off. The frustration for the Mauer supporters (and I'm one of them) is the Mauer critics keep suggesting that Mauer do things that would ultimately make him less productive and make the Twins lose more ballgames. They want him to hack more and walk less. They wanted him to move off catcher 5 years ago. They want him to throw a fit when something bad happens instead of acting like a professional. These are all terrible ideas.
  21. Is someone getting a callup to replace Mastroianni or are they just going to make do with infielders?
  22. Got it on the newsblog at Baseball Think Factory
  23. Also thrilled to see Mastroianni doing well. Get him up to the big leagues.
