  1. I'm pretty sure the analytics guys hand the game plan to Rocco, including the lineup.
  2. I wanted the Twins to sign Eflin but it sounds like he took a hometown discount to play near home in Orlando.
  3. Yeah, because they obviously have a lot of DH playing time to hand out....
  4. The best deadline deals for buyers are usually for mediocre veterans, often underperforming relievers. Prices are too high to acquire top talent in July. Aim low and give up little. The best deal the Twins made last summer was Fulmer for Gipson-Long.
  5. Miranda has the talent to take the role Solano has.
  6. I'm afraid elite defense Buxton only exists in the past now. His knee surgery was obviously not as successful as people hoped.
  7. They traded Garver away at age 30 two seasons ago. Since then he's only appeared in 60 MLB games due to injury.
  8. Today's game is on Fox. Are we going to post a guide so all the old-timers can figure out how to change the channel?
  9. Vazquez is part of the reason this pitching staff has performed much better this season. I think they leaned on him a little too heavily when he started out hot. Both catchers will perform better if they share the workload.
  10. Great hit by Polanco off of Sandlin. That guy throws some unusual, effective breaking stuff. Polanco got his pitch and did not miss.
  11. If Mahle hadn't been injured I expect he would have done at least as well as Varland. This is based on his long track record in MLB as well as how he pitched in the 5 games we got from him this season.
  12. Imagine how good Duran would be if he could actually control his pitches. His stuff is just nasty but he was all over the place last night. Luckily he was able to locate the fastball up. Kudos to Jeffers for keeping the ball in front of him on the breaking stuff.
  13. No, he was leaving pitches middle-middle and the last ball was hit really hard. It was time.
  14. Maybe they could move the booth to Perkins. I could go for a short stack with strawberries.
  15. I can get behind any passive-aggressive (Minnesotan?) putdown of St. Cloud State.
  16. Counterpoint It’s Not Your Imagination: A Lot of Relievers Are Really Good Now | FanGraphs Baseball The 13th pitcher on the staff now has measurably better stuff than the 10th pitcher did in 1980 or the 11th pitcher in 1990. They have higher velocity, more spin, and more likely to get strikeouts. In all measurable ways pitching is better than it used to be. Based on the level of talent available we're overdue for MLB expansion.
  17. A deadline deal for what though? The only easy place to upgrade is in CF and the bullpen. I hope they don't send Julien out for a reliever.
  18. The defense is a lot more likely to make an error when the batter hits the ball really, really hard. Nobody chokes up and tries to make weak contact with 2 strikes anymore because it is a bad idea.
  19. It was so long ago that none of the current Twins were alive at the time including the manager.
  20. He might have been able to handle 2B before they changed the shifting rules. Now I think he's a 1B/DH. The Twins have too many DH on their roster.
