  1. I agree they need more than Correa, but can't Correa be part of it? It's not like they're spending free agent dollars anywhere else. They have enough free cash flow to pay Correa's entire 10 year contract over the next 3 seasons.
  2. Pretty sure I'd rather have him at 10/285. 5 years $60M for his ages 33-38 seasons is pretty cheap. $12M will barely get you a starting infielder in 2028.
  3. Even if that's true they should still be looking for two veteran pitchers to add to the roster. Worst case they release them, best case they flip them at the trade deadline. It may be Feb 15th before those pitchers sign.
  4. Glad you agree with the rest of it. Balazovic has one option season left. If he's just as bad this year as he was last year he's getting released.
  5. Working my way backwards through that list - Dobnak is off the roster and probably never pitches in the major leagues again - we already know he's not good. Balazovic is more likely to be released than he is to contribute. Headrick and Henriquez are relievers in the majors. Woods-Richardson is the 6th starter, he should get plenty of chances to pitch in 2023. Winder is a reliever. Maeda is coming off a missed season and can't be expected for more than 100 innings. Ober has never been healthy. Varland - who knows, he's a rookie with 47 innings above Double-A. There were 313 innings pitched by Bundy, Archer and Smeltzer last season over 66 starts. The Twins know that Gray, Mahle, Ober and Maeda will each miss starts. If they all end up on the IL at the same time the rotation becomes Ryan, SWR, Varland and two other bad options. There are two automatic roster openings that will happen this spring. If they don't use those two openings to add pitching they should probably fire the front office on the spot because they aren't trying to win but they also aren't trying to rebuild. It's a 78 win team that subtracted two of the 10 best players from the roster. This team should not be on autopilot.
  6. Canterino is out with injury. Paddack will also start the season on the 60 day injured list. This team should absolutely sign two pitchers to fill those spots. They can option Megill and Moran to start the season. They're free roster spots.
  7. I think he'd be a great candidate for a bullpen conversion at this point in his career.
  8. Seems like this could be expanded beyond players in the system. When I think of organizational assets I think of Target Field, next season's first round draft pick, goodwill for the Twins brand, their television contract, etc.
  9. According to me. I'm not the one claiming consensus on something where there is definitely not consensus.
  10. I think the Twins will regret taking their best pitcher since Berrios and leaving him in the bullpen.
  11. The Twins are likely to get two strong, cheap seasons out of Sonny Gray. He is a no-brainer to give a qualifying offer to as a free agent which means the Twins are likely to get a high draft pick as well. Then they can draft their next Chase Petty.
  12. Consensus by who? Obviously better: Josh Gibson, Johnny Bench, Yogi Berra, Mike Piazza, Ivan Rodriguez, Gary Carter, Bill Dickey, Gabby Hartnett, Carlton Fisk, Mickey Cochrane, Louis Santop Arguably better: Deacon White, Buck Ewing, Roy Campanella, Roger Bresnahan About as good by WAR: Joe Torre, Ted Simmons
  13. Mauer's case looks a lot like Ted Simmons. It took Simmons 32 years after he retired to get elected after failing to get 5% from the writers. Mike Piazza and Yogi Berra didn't get in on the first try so I would be surprised if Mauer did. Joe will get elected somewhere between year 2 and 27.
  14. Beltran looks doubtful on this year's early ballots.
  15. Anyone still think Buxton is overpaid?
  16. Can't tell if this is sarcasm because of the internet. Did you realize picking yourself up off by your own bootstraps is impossible and the phrase was intended as a sarcastic rejoinder? Nobody is a billionaire solely by "hard work".
  17. Dealing away Urshela and aquiring Escobar would be a weird lateral move.
  18. Cohen isn't even a particularly rich billionaire. He's #134 on the Forbes list. He's going to spend a bunch of money and at the end of it all his net worth is going to grow faster than he can spend the money on the Mets payroll.
  19. Add in a winner-take-all economic and political system that concentrates wealth with people who already have it.
  20. They are also trading for players past the most realistic opportunity to lock them up long-term. Mahle is going to be way more interested in getting to free agency than whatever discounted contract the Twins could offer. They only window the Twins have to lock up players at the prices they're willing to pay is before the player reaches arbitration. Once they're a year away from free agency the player is going to bet on themselves. BTW - Joe Ryan is in that window.
  21. They have a potential All-Star starter sitting in the bullpen and he says he wants to be a starter. They would be stupid not to add two relievers. They have two roster slots that will open in Februrary when Canterino and Paddack are eligible to go on the 60 day IL. Megill and Moran both have options.
