  1. Same goes for Jenkins and Buxton. Keaschall will probably have a spot in the corner OF for the whole season because it is likely that Jenkins, Buxton and Rodriguez miss a combined 200 games due to injury.
  2. You found the effect of the DH rule in 1973. Once the DH opened up in the AL - 13 of those players moved out of the field while staying in the lineup. Now, with the DH in both leagues there are 30 spots for players who can hit but can't field. There aren't that many more players who are good enough at hitting and bad enough at fielding to fill 30 spots. Really high-end hitters are scarce. That's one reason why we have seen the level of play on defense at 1B and LF increase. When the options are carrying a player with a 100 OPS+ who should DH or carrying a player who can play the field with a 98 OPS+, most teams (but not the Twins) will opt for the player who can play defense. The Twins strategy was to grab as many of those DH-types as possible and take the hit on defense in order to boost the offense.
  3. He has about 400 PA in AAA with an 867 OPS and is considered a good defender. Plus, he's only 23 years old so there is upside beyond that performance. He's going to be on the MLB roster next season because he will have exhausted all of his options.
  4. The Twins should have Jenkins in LF (CF when Buxton is unavailable) and Rodriguez in RF next year. Both Roden and Martin are also better fielders than Keaschall. He's potentially the 6th best fielding outfielder on the roster.
  5. There is a big problem with the methodology you used to create your list. oWAR and dWAR count the same numbers (RPos) as part of the calculation. oWAR measures offense plus the positional adjustment. dWAR measures defense plus the positional adjustment. oWAR + dWAR = WAR + RPos.
  6. Usually AA is the level that weeds players out. Kendle should be in AAA, but they have a pretty full outfield.
  7. He’s clearly outperforming Winokur and Diaw at the same level. A glaring omission, should be in the 10-15 range.
  8. Somebody has to catch in Fort Myers or the umpire will get pelted.
  9. Buxton does not seem to have much confidence in his strike zone judgement. He doesn’t challenge close pitches that he could overturn and he’s chasing pitches out of the zone.
  10. There’s an idea. Play Walker Jenkins full time and have Larnach and Buxton share a role until one of them starts hitting again. When Buxton enters the game they can move Jenkins to LF.
  11. Alex Jackson has had one plate appearance in August. His last hit was against Oakland in July, so maybe he plays in a game this week.
  12. “the Twins agreed to trade him to the Astros in a deal that would have netted them reliever Bryan Abreu. Houston owner Jim Crane, whose Batman villain name would be The Meddler, stepped in and scuppered the deal” And now the Astros and their general manager have agreed to part ways….
  13. I am not going to claim that Alan Roden is better than Jenkins, but he has been playing like he belongs in the big leagues. His last 28 days split: .281 .351 .406
  14. They are only 2 games out of the Wild Card and their competition is just as bad as them. It wouldn’t surprise me at all if there are six teams with a chance with one week to go.
  15. He’s been rehabbing injuries and recovering from surgeries since 2022. I doubt he ever pitches in a game again.
  16. I was thinking more of the rocket he threw to first to get a runner by 10 steps. His internal clock needs a calibration
