  1. I think the Ranger Suarez contract (5 years, $130M) sets the floor for a Joe Ryan extension. The Twins will also need to buy out Ryan's arbitration in 2027. That would mean 6 years, $145M. Are people prepared to guarantee him that much money for his 30s? That would be the 2nd biggest contract in franchise history.
  2. I'm not saying this will turn into another Willi Castro move, but this is about exactly as well as Willi Castro performed before he came to the Twins. Castro was a couple years younger then than Brujan is now, but Brujan is young enough to have a career year performance. Good job getting younger, more athletic and better on defense. If someone better becomes available, they can send him on waivers again.
  3. If they give Joe his money, then they're out of money and the rest of the roster has to be rookies and waiver wire crap.
  4. There are a lot of people projecting their feelings onto Joe Ryan.
  5. Jordan Lawlar is extra blocked now.
  6. MLB absolutely should expand. The talent level of the worst players might be the highest in MLB history. Each expansion team brings in another $300M worth of topline revenue each season.
  7. This is not a particularly young team at the moment. It has the potential to go young, but Josh Bell will be gone if they turn the roster over.
  8. Wagaman was DFA'd when the Twins acquired him. The only thing useful about Wagaman is his 3 options. If he's the 18th position player on the roster, he's useful. Unfortunately, the Twins have 8 guys like that.
  9. Buxton has a chance to actually win something and show off his talent on a national stage in the WBC. With the Twins he'll be playing for 4th place with a couple thousand fans in the stands.
  10. It means New York can have two divisional pennant winners instead of just one. If the two teams are rivals in the same division it forces the fan base to choose. There will be a winner and a loser. If the teams aren't in the same league, then people can be at least a casual fan of both.
  11. Who are the top LHP in the WBC? I'm guessing there aren't many. I haven't seen Framber Valdez, Jesus Luzardo or Ranger Suarez announced for the Dominican Republic, Peru or Venezuela.
  12. I still wouldn't count on players who were bad in AAA or weren't even at AAA for bullpen help. Bad at AAA is usually a good indicator that the pitcher will be bad in MLB.
  13. I think you're counting at least two chickens before they've hatched.
  14. MLB said the same city teams will not be in the same division. That's a really good decision if you want to maximize baseball interest in large markets (which they absolutely want to do). I wouldn't be surprised to see San Antonio get an expansion team. I would make that division Astros, Rangers, SA, Royals. So much of this depends on which cities bid for expansion teams. I expect bids from San Antonio, Nashville, Charlotte, Portland and Salt Lake City.
  15. Buxton is a bench player on that team, though I'm sure they will rotate players frequently.
  16. Castro plays mainly 2B/LF/RF with some 3B mixed in. The Twins have plenty of options for 2B/LF/RF on the roster. They need someone who has plus defense in the infield to back up at SS/3B and that isn't Willi Castro. With most moves, the question isn't yes/no but at what cost. I wouldn't give Castro more than $3M to return.
  17. About 1/3 of MLB players are international free agent signings (including Japanese players). The Dodgers, Yankees and Astros have been more successful than other organizations. Spending matters to get kids into your academy instead of a rival's academy.
  18. Neither Abel nor Matthews have anything left to learn in AAA. They need to open a spot in the MLB rotation or both of them will end up in AAA to start the season. I'd say with the younger, cheaper Wallner on the team, there is no room for Josh Bell on this roster. What do I know, though. I think MLB teams should be able to play defense. The Twins front office gets paid a lot more than me and they're convinced you can play anyone anywhere and defense doesn't matter.
  19. Mickey Gasper is on the 40-man roster.
  20. Won't happen. The Twins won't even call up players already on the 40-man roster. They're not going to add Tait to give him a cup of coffee. The earliest you might see him is September 2027.
