  1. If the Twins truly are waiting for an offer they can't refuse, they should realize that the players they have to trade (Ryan, Lopez, Jeffers, Buxton) are declining in value with every game they play. Ober is the only one who might be worth more in July than he is right now.
  2. Buy Eddie Julien, get a free Ohl change? It's a shame that Ohl's best pitch is his changeup and I never made an oil change joke before now.
  3. Who is the next to go off the 40-man roster - Alex Jackson, Ryan Kriedler, James Outman or Travis Adams?
  4. Ohl's changeup might actually work in Colorado. Same with Julien's bat in the thin air. I like the pitcher the Twins received. There is some real upside. He should get to Double-A this summer. From Blake Street Banter
  5. I actually hope they do trade some of their prospects (not Jenkins) for established players. After seeing how little it took to get Gore from Washington, I'd love to see the Twins trade with them to add CJ Abrams to the roster. It makes little sense to keep Ryan, Buxton, Lopez, Ober and Jeffers if they aren't going to add some players who can help in 2026-27.
  6. OAA is a cumulative stat, not a rate stat. For 2025 Larnach is -4 OAA in 441 innings (-2 Total Zone, -5 DRS), Wallner is -4 OAA in 654 innings (-6 Total Zone, -6 DRS). On a rate basis, Wallner is slightly better. Larnach is also getting compared to LF, who are generally worse fielders than RF. That is a point for Wallner. Neither one is good, but Wallner actually rates marginally better by the defensive stats.
  7. Wallner actually rates higher in fielding than Larnach. He runs faster and throws harder than Larnach. That's why Wallner played more RF and Larnach played more DH last season. Martin LF, Wallner RF, Bell DH, Clemens/Caratini 1B is the best defensive alignment.
  8. Just wait several years and hope players get better seems to be the front office mantra.
  9. The MLB is listing it's top 10 players by position and it is striking how few Twins will be on the lists. Only Joe Ryan #73 and Byron Buxton #42 made their top 100 players list. They aren't going to win anything by surrounding two good players with below average players everywhere else.
  10. I don't understand how adding 12 points of batting average is going to improve Lee's WAR by 2.5. He was a -0.8 WAR player with that batting line last year. His defense is unlikely to improve because he is limited by his athleticism.
  11. I agree that it is strange to try to "contend" with the worst starting SS in the league. The Twins might end up with the worst defense in baseball. Only Lewis and Buxton project as even average defenders.
  12. Maybe, but who plays third if Royce moves to SS?
  13. The Cardinals started the offseason with a projection similar to the Twins (averagish), but they took a very different path. I think projections would be a lot more useful if they included standard deviations. The error bar is a lot smaller for some teams than it is for others.
  14. I am hoping it isn't long before Walker Jenkins is the starting left fielder, but until then I think this team needs the speed and defense from Austin Martin.
  15. Josh Bell is the DH - he's the 4th best fielding 1B on the 40-man roster. Yes, Outman is actually Twins Territory's least favorite left-handed hitting outfielder. There is nothing wrong with Larnach, except the fact that the Twins could replace him with Roden, Rodriguez or Jenkins and not miss him. Austin Martin should be the everyday LF - he gets on base against both LH and RH pitchers and plays better defense than Larnach. Looking at Statcast - he struggled against changeups and splitters. That might be the best information about when to sub for Martin.
  16. I am going to guess that adding the $100k as a mutual option has some sort of luxury tax ramifications. There is a 1% chance both sides would pick up that option.
  17. Mr. Burns: You! Strawberry! Good effort today. Take a lap and hit the showers. I'm putting in a right-handed batter. Darryl Strawberry: Pinch-hitting for me? Mr. Burns: Yes. You're a left-hander and so is the pitcher. If I send up a right-handed batter it's called playing the percentages. It's what smart managers do to win ball games. Darryl Strawberry: I've got nine home runs. Mr. Burns: You should be very proud. Sit down. Simpson! You're batting for Strawberry. Homer Simpson: I am?
  18. I am sure there will be many more opportunities for the Twins to pick up other teams discards on the waiver wire.
  19. Based on last year I'd have Lopez, Ryan, Woods Richardson, Bradley and Abel in the rotation with Festa, Prielipp and Ober in the bullpen. Matthews becomes the 6th starter with Morris, Rojas and Culpepper as starters 7-9. I think there's still room to bring in another arm to keep Klein, Adams and Raya stashed in AAA to start the season. We'll see which players show up healthy and performing in a month and it should sort itself out.
  20. This is exactly why I don't like the Taylor Rogers signing. Another example of blocking the rookies with low upside, marginal veterans.
  21. To pencil in a plan, I think I'd move Ober and Prielipp to the bullpen to bump out Adams and Klein.
  22. Bailey Ober should get some consideration for the bullpen. If he pitches as he did last year then he isn’t one of the top 5 starters on the depth chart. Moving to the bullpen could bring back his lost velocity and along with it his effectiveness.
  23. I think converting a free agent starting pitcher to relief is a higher upside play than signing one of the remaining free agent relievers.
