  1. I think I would keep Tonkin. They couldn't find anyone better for $1.5M last offseason.
  2. More important question. Are the city connect jerseys returning? I think they may have been the real cause of the epic collapse.
  3. Correa went on the injured list after the game on July 12, the team was 53-41 (+12) Correa came back on 9/14, the team was 78-69 (+9). They were 3 games below .500 (25-28) without Carlos Correa for 2 months. Correa had a .960 OPS in September when he returned but the team was a total mess and even he couldn't carry them across the finish line.
  4. Looks like Alcala spent enough time on optional assignment to gain the extra year of team control.
  5. WAR overrates relief pitchers. Pitching 1 inning is much easier to do than pitching 5-6 as a starter. You never have to face a batter twice and you can lean on your best pitch the entire time. Carlos Correa is the team MVP. They cratered when he was gone.
  6. I think they could get an equally effective reliever who makes half as much in return for Paddack. That frees up enough cash to bring back Carlos Santana.
  7. Shoeless Joe Jackson was clearly good enough to get elected to the Hall of Fame. He's out because he threw the World Series and was banned from baseball.
  8. Not good. He reacts way too late to the ball when it is hit which limits his overall range.
  9. Austin Martin grades out as the worst CF in all of MLB.
  10. Nice strawman you have there. Top 5 Twins pitchers using WAR were Ober 2.9 Jax 2.8 Lopez 2.5 Ryan 2.3 Woods Richardson 2.0 Jax was a reliever so I'm fine giving him an A but the other 4 starting pitchers shouldn't be more than one grade apart from each other. How does Woods-Richardson get the highest grade and Lopez the lowest? Ober B+ Lopez B Ryan B Woods Richardson B- Festa gets a D, Paddack a D- and Matthews gets an F.
  11. They should plan on Varland spending the beginning of next season in AAA. He was terrible in the bullpen in September. Couldn't locate his pitches. Get him in the AAA bullpen and make sure he's effective before promoting him.
  12. He has elite talent and was bad on both sides of the ball. The coaching staff absolutely needs to maximize his talent if this team is going to be successful.
  13. If you're expecting Buxton to play 130 games next year I guarantee you will be disappointed.
  14. The defense behind him is not good. FIP assumes league average defense.
  15. Shoeless Joe is still waiting.
  16. Kris Kristofferson was inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame in 2004.
  17. I agree that he's fun to watch, even if he was a less valuable player than Carlos Santana this season.
  18. Do they want to unload Vazquez? I get the feeling once they sign a player, they're hanging with them until the bitter end.
  19. Except when they aren't. It was reasonable to expect Alcala was injured and ineffective yet another season. Based on his actual results he exceeded expectations.
  20. Good luck. MLB hit .243 this season. That means .250 is a good batting average.
  21. With that budget they have roughly $100M to spend to get 40 additional wins above replacement. That means they need players to produce at an average of $2.5M/WAR. I don't understand why they signed Correa at $36M or Vazquez at $10M given those constraints. Correa is not going to produce 14 WAR seasons and Vazquez is not a 4 WAR catcher. The going rate for free agents is $8M-$10M per WAR. At those rates Correa is paid fairly. They might be able to find a large market team where he would be a better fit.
  22. I'm thrilled they traded their no defense, no power, 1 WAR in 2024, batting champ for a top of the rotation pitcher like Pablo Lopez.
  23. Pablo Lopez and Zebby Matthews get the same grade? That makes no sense.
  24. Spots filled: IF: Julien, Correa, Lewis, Castro, Lee, Miranda, Jeffers, Vazquez, Camargo (9) OF: Buxton, Larnach, Wallner, Keirsey, Martin, E Rodriguez (6) SP: Lopez, Matthews, Ober, Festa, Ryan, Woods Richardson, Headrick (7) RP: Duran, Jax, Alcala, Sands, Topa, Varland, Henriquez, Funderburk, RAYA, Moran (9) Maybe keep? Tonkin, Blewett, Helman, Kirilloff, Canterino, Severino, Winder (7) That's only 31 on the "keep" list. They need another corner outfield bat, starting pitcher and two relievers.
  25. Fair enough. If we're grading versus realistic expectations before the season began, then why does Brooks Lee, a 23-year-old rookie with hardly any time at AAA get a D grade? Why doesn't Buxton get an A for his comeback season? My expectations for Buxton were that he would never contribute again due to a chronic knee injury and he blew past those expectations.
