  1. Seems an odd question to ask since he's about to have enough innings pitched to leave prospect lists forever.
  2. I like Vazquez. He's still a good defender and clearly worth a major league roster spot. That said, the Twins are not getting $10M worth of value from him.
  3. The drop on offense from Miranda to Farmer has been substantial. There will be maybe one defensive play a game where I'd rather have Farmer but there will be 4 at-bats where I'd rather have Miranda. Jeffers is going to be the DH quite often vs. LHP. If they want Miranda's bat in the lineup he'll need to play the field.
  4. The odds that everyone on the roster is healthy at the same time are vanishingly small.
  5. People talk about Vazquez influence on Jeffers but I wonder about his influence on Pete Maki.
  6. That's fine if you have one game left and you need to choose a pitcher but 4.50 ERA for 600 innings is definitely more valuable than 3.00 ERA for 100 innings if you're trying to play 3 seasons of baseball.
  7. Looking at pitching wins above average Joe Ryan has 1.1 - just slightly above average for 4 seasons. Slightly above average has to equal at least a #3 starter. Your scale does not match up with actual league performance - it would say that 2/3 of starting pitchers are below average.
  8. Like 100%. I agree that producing a steady supply of competent relief pitching is key to competing on a low budget.
  9. The Twins definitely outmanaged the Blue Jays in the first round last year. Not so much against the Astros.
  10. Doncon was an international free agent signing with a $500,000 bonus, so yeah pretty much.
  11. MAT also had more potential for playing time in Pittsburgh. He's a starter there, not a backup.
  12. They have a bunch of bullpen depth. Staumont would be in the majors on some teams.
  13. When Buxton is not on the IL, I would expect Keirsey to head back to AAA. Buxton does tend to spend time on the IL and there is no reason not to replace him with a LH hitter when he is injured.
  14. Belt's bat would more than make up for the dropoff in defense, especially against RHP. Santana has a 70 OPS+ on the season and a 46 sOPS+ vs RHP. Carlos Correa's glove couldn't make up the gap between that and the 124 OPS+ Belt had last season (142 sOPS+ vs RHP).
  15. Or fielding worth a darn. Keirsey's glove should more than make up for any difference in their hitting.
  16. And half the players will hit below league average against them. Castro is definitely playable vs RHP.
  17. Which is probably fine because his glove is enough to make up for it. He's a very good utility player.
  18. If they cut Margot and move Keirsey up that opens a spot for Emmanuel Rodriguez in AAA. It might be a matter of weeks.
  19. Kirilloff started off hot but has a 500 OPS over the last 28 days. I don't blame Baldelli for pinch hitting for Alex but he doesn't really have a better option on the bench. It's too bad Larnach is not able to play the field, he's usually a better defender than Kirilloff.
  20. They got back a prospect who is essentially equal to the one they sent to the Dodgers in the trade for Margot. If Margot is a waste, it's just cash. Margot's dropoff defensively is concerning and the sprint speed metrics agree he is slower. It points to an overall decline in athletic ability. That might be due to an injury but it means he's not likely to contribute. His batting numbers keep getting worse, which is another bad sign. I'd rather see the lefty hitters get the at-bat and stay in the game than see Margot pinch hit for them.
  21. ESPN, Fox, and Warner Bros. are putting together a juggernaut sports streaming app - The Verge
