  1. Amazon knows my exact street address. How would a VPN fool them?
  2. I get to watch one game a month and Apple decides no, you'd really rather watch the Rays play the Jays for two straight innings. You can break into a "perfect game" with 2 outs in the 9th, not in the 7th.
  3. This could easily be the last season for regional broadcasting of games.
  4. I have Prime. They don't show Twins games in-market.
  5. Nothing is more "on-brand" for the Twins than getting swept by the Yankees at home
  6. One of the handful of games I will watch on TV this season.
  7. MLB was negotiating with Peacock to show the Sunday baseball games before they decided to go with Roku. The streaming wars are pretty fierce with the Paramount merger looming, the proposed Diamond sports buyout by Amazon Prime and the Venu sports streaming service announcement.
  8. No, the other way around. Comcast has the power to kill Diamond and eliminate a competitor. I am guessing Comcast's terms for carrying Diamond Sports are bad enough that Diamond would still go bankrupt if they accept.
  9. Comcast is a competitor to Diamond with its own channels providing sports programming. Killing their competitor (and damaging their future prospects with Amazon Prime) might be the primary goal of this standoff.
  10. I guess I should have put ALSO in between I and don't because I was agreeing with you, then adding context. If you let in Rose and Jackson then you might as well burn the building to the ground.
  11. I don't see those things as equivalent at all. The penalty for betting on games has been a permanent ban since the Black Sox scandal. People using steroids to try to be in peak physical shape so they can win baseball games is very different than people throwing games to make money for gamblers. The penalty for steroids for the first few seasons was nothing at all. It's cheating, but similar to doctoring a baseball, corking a bat or stealing signs. Even now the penalty is a half year suspension for the first offense. If you want to "suspend" Bonds or Clemens for a couple seasons that's fine with me but they were Hall of Fame players long before they took steroids. As for Rose in particular, even if they lifted the ban I'm pretty sure the Era Committee would keep him out. The other Hall of Famers don't want him around ruining induction weekend. He's a pretty awful human being.
  12. It looks a lot better when you see that Polanco is leading the league in strikeouts and has been mostly worthless this season. Neither team is getting any MLB help from that trade in 2024.
  13. Some of the workload comes during practice. That is an easy thing to limit as the season goes on. Maximize time on the field during games, especially during stretches of multiple days with no off day.
  14. And there's only one rule that comes with a lifetime ban - don't bet on baseball games. I can forgive a lot of other stuff but not that one.
  15. In September you could add Varland to the list.
  16. Yes. But they aren't doing anything different from the NFL, NBA, NHL or NCAA.
  17. Agreed, but that doesn't have anything to do with how MLB parcels out its exclusive, nationally broadcast games to ESPN, FOX, Apple, MLB Network, TBS and now Roku.
  18. Peacock has (had?) a free "tier" that shows a limited amount of programming. Maybe they stopped doing that. Splintering coverage is a stupid idea if you care about the fans actually being able to watch your games. Selling games to as many broadcasters as are interested using a Dutch auction is going to generate the most short-term revenue. From that angle it's a great idea. The NFL just announced further fragmentation of their games. Some streaming services are getting just a single game in their "international series" where they know the local fans for both teams will be unable to attend in person. At least they don't change which radio station they broadcast on from game to game.
  19. I thought Martin was a natural outfielder and playing him in the infield at SS meant he would be fine when they inevitably moved him to LF like everyone expected.
  20. I do remember that now. Forgive me for not paying that much attention to the NFL. Did people have to pay for Peacock or did they show them for free on the app? Do I remember correctly that Gopher basketball games were split between Peacock and Big Ten Network this year?
  21. Yes, an app has guaranteed availability anywhere you can get Wi-Fi while over-the-air TV requires a broadcasting tower in your neighborhood and an antenna to receive it. The NFL fragments it's coverage ALL THE TIME but no complaints because the games are always available for free in local markets. NBA playoff coverage for the Wolves has switched between ESPN and TBS/TNT in the SAME SERIES. I can watch the road games on MAX (if I can actually stay up that late in the evening with the 9:30 start time) but I can't watch the home games (the ones that are actually on at a reasonable hour) because they're on a different streaming service. This doesn't happen with just sports. To watch South Park you need both Paramount and MAX. Watching the full run of Pokemon cartoons requires 8 different streaming services.
  22. The improvement in location for the offspeed pitches is terrific. I don't know if he will be able to throw deep into games with only fastball/slider vs RHP. He'll probably need to be able to mix in the changeup as well against RHP to get through the order a 3rd time. From the heat map it looks like he has mostly abandoned the changeup low and away to RHP. That might need to be his next adjustment.
