  1. Julien was league average for his position for the time he was in the majors. He got on base and made his plays at 2B. Your expectations don't matter when determining his value to the team.
  2. They're 14-10 in one run games. If that's attributable to the manager then Rocco is clearly an above-average manager. That is a pretty good record considering Thielbar has been useless, Stewart has been injured and Duran has been mediocre.
  3. Correct. They need an ace starter and a shutdown reliever and this is the easiest way to get both of them.
  4. Except they don't. Correa, Lewis, Miranda, Santana and Castro are doing a great job in the infield. Austin Martin is earning more playing time, not less, and should probably get some reps at 2B against LHP instead of Farmer. There is no pressing need for Brooks Lee on the major league roster. For the moment it is perfectly okay for Brooks Lee to play everyday in AAA, move around the infield learning different positions and wait for an opportunity.
  5. There's the problem assumption. I don't even know if they want Brooks Lee to play 2B.
  6. My vote for LVP is Caleb Thielbar. He's the highest paid member of the bullpen and the worst performer. He's been demoted to the 3rd lefthanded reliever and only used to soak up innings in blowouts.
  7. That's fine, as long as they don't wait themselves right out of their own price range. It's going to be a small window between "He's too risky" and "He's too expensive" for the Twins.
  8. No. Farmer would pass through waivers and become a free agent. The Twins would owe the entire contract except the league minimum. His job right now is mostly to make sure the bench is warm. Kyle Farmer is the most irrelevant player on the team at the moment. He's hardly playing which makes him an unusual scapegoat. Cutting him would make little impact because he's hardly playing as-is. If they bring up Brooks Lee he's going to need to be in the lineup every day. They're not going to let him rot on the bench like Kyle Farmer. That means fewer at-bats for Castro, Lewis, Miranda, Larnach or Martin. Those players are all doing quite well at the moment. That's the downside of promoting Lee.
  9. He's not been good, and he's definitely not worth $10M, but there have been several catchers who are worse with a regular job in baseball. It's actually a sign of a pretty good team if their worst player is right around replacement level.
  10. If he wasn't one of the better defensive catchers his WAR would be much more negative. Think about how bad his bat is. WAR is saying his defense is good enough to cancel out a bat THAT bad.
  11. If you DFA Farmer, he's NOT headed to St. Paul. He's headed onto another team's roster. That's why your suggestion hasn't happened.
  12. Raya's been in Double-A for nearly a year now and the results have been pretty bad. ERA around 5, too many walks.
  13. He's been healthier but Royce is the better offensive talent. Healthy Royce Lewis would be impossible to sign at just $200M over 10 years.
  14. Possibly, but that is probably their last opportunity. After that Royce will have enough arbitration money in the bank to feel good about waiting for free agency. The window for this extension is short and after that the reality is going to force the Twins to trade him to get value before he walks for nothing.
  15. I've been surprised at how ineffective Duran has been. They need him to come back strong in the second half.
  16. That would be disappointing. I really like watching Royce Lewis and would miss seeing him after they trade him away in 2027.
  17. That was Ted Williams' idea as well - keep your swing slightly uppercut to match the plane of the incoming pitch. Hit dingers on low pitches where optimum launch angle = swing plane. If you max out on launch angle you will hit more HR and have more swing and miss. There are people who believe this is fine because missing the ball means you avoid making weak contact and have a chance to swing at the next pitch.
  18. Future payroll is mostly irrelevant when it comes to determining whether the Twins should sign Royce Lewis long-term. The discount they can expect gets smaller with each passing day. Superstar players on their first contract are very tradeable. We're looking at two scenarios: 1) The Twins go through the arbitration process with Lewis. They're going to be forced to trade him after the 2027 season just like they were with Santana and Berrios. Also see the Padres and Juan Soto. 2) The Twins sign him to a 10 year $220M deal. They can trade his contract at any time until the 2032 season (when he gets 10-5 rights) or hold onto him until the end of the contract like they did with Joe Mauer.
  19. Getting the playoff money windfall helps the franchise. Getting Royce Lewis and the other young players experience in the playoffs helps the franchise. Plus, you can't win the World Series if you're sitting at home while other teams participate in the playoffs.
  20. The Austin Riley deal is a great comparable. 10 years, $212M. I don't see Royce signing for anything less than that. If the Twins came to Royce with that offer this offseason they would show they are serious.
  21. They are not a guaranteed playoff team. Keeping ahead of the Red Sox and Royals has value.
