  1. If Julien hasn't learned to play first base after an offseason and all of spring training, then he's unlikely to do it at AAA. Either he has the ability to do it, or he doesn't. It doesn't take years to learn that footwork. Good athletes, like Joe Mauer, pick it up in a few weeks. Just play him at DH.
  2. I think Julien is mostly a finished product as a fielder. You could send him to AAA for years and he wouldn't get much better.
  3. Raya's hurt right now. I imagine he will spend time in St. Paul this summer. So will CJ Culpepper.
  4. I don't think the Twins are worried about putting Gasper on the bench most days. I don't think the same is true about Brooks Lee; they will want Lee to play everyday somewhere.
  5. I agree that Castro is needed in the infield at 2B and 3B pretty much every day.
  6. I don't think they want to make him a full-time DH.
  7. Why keep Aaron Sabato around?
  8. I would guess he passes through waivers pretty easily.
  9. Probably, players usually lose velocity with a labrum injury. To be fair, his career never really began.
  10. Let's be clear that all of these guys are getting reps at more than one position in spring training. Most reps happen in practice, not during games.
  11. Lee has less range than Lewis, runs slower and has a weaker arm. It might be Brooks Lee who ends up at 1B. I still think the solution to having two starting-caliber 3B is to trade one of them for something else.
  12. A lot of them are looking at their portfolios and realizing they may not have enough resources to make a bid.
  13. I don't really know what "throwback" means. I never heard Willi Castro referred to as a "throwback" player even though he's adaptable, excels in different roles, runs the bases well, gets on base, etc. This feels like the coded language where white players are "scrappy, hustle, gritty, hard-nosed, smart, heads-up" while non-white players are described as "gifted athletes, toolsy, talented, natural".
  14. This is why the deal might not happen if it doesn't happen this year https://www.sportico.com/business/finance/2022/coveted-tax-write-off-for-sports-team-1234699071/
  15. I don't know why you follow the team at all if you want to constantly insult the character of the individual players on the team. They deserve better than fans like you.
  16. Gasper and Keirsey are both old and both have 3 options remaining. Their job is to shuttle back and forth to AAA. Martin has 2 options left. Julien is down to his last option. They may keep him in the majors just for that reason. Or, they might trade him off before the season starts.
  17. There is no evidence that France is particularly good at scooping errant throws. He was the lowest rated 1B defensivey last season by Statcast and OAA. The ratings that didn't have him at the bottom had him near the bottom. There is strong consensus he's a bad fielder. Maybe some of that is the injury, but I would bet on Miranda instead.
  18. True, but Ty France rates even worse at 1B. 1st percentile in range (which means there are many minor leaguers who are better) and 4th percentile in arm strength.
  19. What family has 81 open days on their calendar to attend Twins games? A family is going to get to maybe one game a month. They're not buying a season pass for $324.
  20. That's not going to happen for Wallner. His approach will never lead to a below-average strikeout rate. Guess you'll never be a "believer".
