  1. Those pitchers threw slower and had to rely on hitting spots and good defense. Do you think pitch-to-contact is a good strategy with the current Twins defense?
  2. I think they could regress to the mean and play .500 baseball in June or July. Unfortunately I think they'll be 8-10 games under .500 because of April and May. They haven't played any of the first place teams besides Detroit.
  3. All three free agents (Bader, Coulombe, France) have provided good value. That makes it even more frustrating that several returning players have flopped.
  4. I don't. This is a veterans-for-prospects deadline.
  5. I expect to see Bader, Castro, and France dealt. Kody Clemens might be needed as a warm body to finish the season.
  6. And injured himself slipping on the ice at his home. Playing DH isn't going to prevent that one.
  7. Do you mean when he was a regular in AAA? Keirsey has shown nothing at all in the majors. He's done nothing to earn more playing time. He's had 43 plate appearances and barreled up one pitch.
  8. I doubt they will make Lewis DH all the time but he's going to get his fair share.
  9. If we have to wait until Wallner returns it will be too late. They'll have a record of 25-35 and the season will be over.
  10. Possible, but I'd rather they demote Gasper and Keirsey. Castro can fill in as a defensive substitute in the outfield if needed. Keirsey can't hit at all. They may prioritize keeping Bride and Clemens on the roster, so they have enough players to finish the season. I am betting we see several players dealt at the deadline.
  11. Olivar has caught 7, DH 7 and LF 5 games. Not a great ratio if they're trying to develop a catcher. Morales has not caught a game and only caught 5 last year. He's done catching.
  12. Player Name AAA career OPS Kody Clemens 838 DaShawn Keirsey 821 Mickey Gasper 944 The only guy I'm really interested in seeing is McCusker and I can wait. I think they are hoarding depth right now so there will still be enough players around to complete the season after the trade deadline. I think we'll be seeing plenty of Clemens, Keirsey, Gasper and McCusker from July to September. That's to say, be careful about wanting the AAA team promoted to the majors. I'm pretty sure you're going to get it and you won't like it better than what you're seeing right now.
  13. "Starting pitchers should always go 6+ innings and 100+ pitches" is just a different kind of managing by the spreadsheet instead of paying attention to what is happening in the game.
  14. People are super upset that Rocco mismanaged his bullpen so badly that they gave up 1 run in 4 innings.
  15. I'm not really happy when I watch DaShawn Keirsey struggle to get the ball out of the infield. He has failed to meet my pessimistic expectations. I don't know why anyone would lobby to get him more at-bats. Kody Clemens is not good, but he's been twice as good as Keirsey.
  16. That's what happens when your batters don't have any power. Bottom 5 in HR.
  17. Looking over the prospect list, I was surprised to see Yunior Severino. He's a minor league free agent who came back to the Twins after being released. He currently has a lousy .633 OPS at AAA. That's basically the definition of a non-prospect. I looked over the MLB list to see if someone had been overlooked by the group here. There are many names I'd choose over Severino (Ricardo Olivar, Eduardo Beltre, Dameury Pena, Payton Eeles, Khadim Diaw, Dylan Questad, Adrian Bohorquez) but nobody super exciting. The only conclusion I can draw is the Twins don't really have 20 good prospects in the minors. Hopefully the deadline trades re-stock the farm with talent this summer.
  18. Here's the order I would demote players 1) Gasper - does a few things okay but nothing particularly well. Has options. I expect he will go down for Royce Lewis. 2) Clemens - not elite at anything but okay at everything. Expect him DFA for Castro since he won't get any playing time with Castro on the roster. Opens up a 40-man roster spot for McCusker if he is DFA. 3) Keirsey - possible he gets optioned instead of Clemens DFA when Castro returns if they want to continue to hoard depth players. Has a role as a defensive replacement and pinch runner but shouldn't be stretched beyond that role. Plus, Castro can fill that OF defense role. Could last until Wallner returns. Would already be gone if Austin Martin was healthy. 4) Julien - Lost the starting 2B job to Brooks Lee but not a bad bench player. Better option at DH than Gasper. 5) Bride - Keep. Looks like an adequate bench bat. Does everything we hoped Miranda could do. Platoons with Julien. A bench of Castro, Julien and Bride is pretty good. I think they need McCusker's bat more than Keirsey's glove if Castro and Lee are both on the roster.
  19. They're still in the "showcase the veterans for trades" part of the season.
  20. The internet doesn't work for sarcasm. Too many idiots who say something stupid and are completely serious about it.
  21. I'm pretty sure no coach or scout in the history of baseball has told a pitcher to throw a fastball middle-middle.
