  1. Suppose his batting average drops 100 points going to the major leagues. That's still a .244/.307/.564 batting line. This is a guy with an ISO SLG of 200 last season and 320 this season. If he hits .230 with a .480 SLG, he'll make an impact.
  2. The rules changed in 1927 to make betting on baseball a lifetime ban. That's 8 years after the 1919 Black Sox scandal. In 1918 the league acquitted Hal Chase for throwing games despite a mountain of evidence and let him continue his career. In contrast, Pete Rose saw a sign posting the lifetime ban every time he entered a baseball clubhouse.
  3. Coulombe is a great contrast to all the flame throwers the Twins have in the bullpen. He probably makes the next reliever to pitch in the game that much more effective.
  4. Unlikely to happen. It doesn't appear that the pitchers at AAA have the ability to challenge him to force those adjustments.
  5. They're the same team as last year - streaky as hell with huge swings in results.
  6. I reject the premise that the lineup will ever be at "full strength". Someone is always injured.
  7. I have Keaschall as the Bader replacement. They do need a 1B and a C next season. They've done fine signing an old 1B from free agency to fill in. Catcher is always scarce, and free agents are almost always at the tail end of their career. I hope they trade for a catcher. Honestly, they could use a catcher THIS year to replace Vazquez.
  8. I hope Keaschall is the RH hitting OF they keep trying to find (replacing Bader). Lee is fine at 2B.
  9. Lee and Keaschall are on the big league team. Does that count?
  10. I would have bet against this week happening
  11. Ober and Ryan are already under team control through the ages you would want to keep them.
  12. Does anyone here still think Bader was a bad signing because we already had DaShawn Keirsey and Austin Martin?
  13. I am going to guess that is the best game Paddack has pitched in a Twins uniform.
  14. He's coming off a base of $4M this season, so two years of arb will probably cost $17M. I wouldn't pay him $53M for 3 seasons after that and I doubt anyone else will either - that's $17.6M a season. That would make him one of the top 5 highest paid relievers in baseball. I would offer $13M for one season of free agency at age 30 - 3 years $30M guaranteed. He gets life changing money now and gets to be a free agent at age 30. He's never made much money, this is his first contract above the league minimum and he got a tiny $65k signing bonus.
  15. Mickey Gasper has close to the same number of PAs in MLB/AAA. He has an OPS of .488 in MLB and 1.474 in AAA. Either he's not that good, or he's not that bad.
  16. They didn't trade Berrios with this much control remaining.
  17. The fun part of players with negative trade value on one year contract is they gain in trade value as the season progresses. Once there is only $4M left on that contract he'll look pretty good to any team with a hole in their rotation. Trading Paddack opens up a spot for Festa and I think he's a better pitcher. An article that examines which teams meet that criteria would be far more interesting than this article.
  18. That explains why the Twins have so much hitting. Also explains why league OPS is 700.
  19. I wouldn't trade or extend Ober. Keep him until he's a free agent and give him the QO.
  20. In about a month, they wouldn't. They'll be considering only vets for prospects trades if they're still 10 games back at the deadline. Right now, they're desperate for starting pitchers and might still think they have a chance. Regardless, the Twins should sell Paddack to somebody. Joe Ryan shouldn't go anywhere.
  21. Good time to reward him with a long-term contract extension.
