    If you want to make the point that he won't sustain this level of production, we would all agree. That does not mean we should not be pleased with what is actually happening. Should we be happy with Correa's futility this year because he has been good over the course of 3900 PAs? You seem to be a lot more concerned with past performance as opposed to what's actually happening. Should Oakland fans be down on Rooker because he has not had success in the past or should they be pleased with the way he is performing?

    It sure looks like Kirilloff's wrist surgery was a success. This is one of the bigger question marks for this team and it's looking like this question is going to have a positive answer. Severino might end up being the prospect to elevate their prospect ranking the most this year.

    Let's just ignore the metrics that indicate he has been our best hitter and focus on strike outs. Let's hold on to our preseason position about a player even when the facts are quite clear that we were wrong. The guy has been a great addition to this team so far. Let's get over the need to be right and be glad we have him.

    I am curious about the wrist but don't feel remotely qualified to offer an opinion as to the likelihood of it holding up. Not only do I NOT possess the very specialized skill set to offer an informed opinion. I also have no information from the medical staff as to how he is doing. Perhaps you could lend me your crystal ball.

    If Petty ends up an Ace, you could say we would have been better off keeping Petty but I agree with you that the odds are not good for a high school pitcher and this was a smart trade.

    That's a good catch. The pick would be just a few picks later than Petty. Even if he pitches to the same level as last year he would be worth a qualifying offer. An overpay on a one-year deal is generally going to be better than signing a 34 y/o SP to a 3 or 4 year deal. I agree, either way, this should work out favorably for the Twins. Let's hope he stays healthy.

    I appreciate where you are coming from. You are just a week or two or three ahead of me in terms of how much time we give for the player to make adjustments. In Larnach's case, he is an above average player measured by wRC+ so I don't see a problem that needs immediate attention. I am also wondering who would you promote to take Larnach's spot in the OF? BTW .... I think there is a pretty good chance he goes down when Farmer is ready to come back. Their other options will be Gordon and Solano given there is no way they move Taylor.

    Welcome back Jorge Polanco. We are so happy to see you in the lineup. Sonny Gray sure sets a great example of how to compete for the youngsters and the rest the team in general. Now, if Correa and Miranda can get their acts together. They are both taking poor ABs. Miranda was swinging at pitches a foot out of the zone once he got 2 strikes. Reminded me of Eddy Rosario and that total lack of discipline was the difference between Rosario being great and the replacement level player he is today.

    Which OFer do they have ready to come up that's better than Larnach? They could put Kirilloff in the OF but it makes more sense to move Gallo to the OF and play Kirilloff at 1B. He is a better 1B than an OFer and 1B will be his primary position beyond 2023. BTW Larnach has a wRC+ 10 points higher than Buxton.

    You would cut Larnach? Do you mean send him back to AAA for the time being or just give up on him all together?

    Really easy to have hindsight. Fans here forget about all the players they wanted sign who turn out to be disasters. I remember posts absolutely blasting the front office for not signing Madison Bumgarner. Lots of people wanted Patrick Corbin and Johnny Cueto. I remember a couple people all-in on Jacoby Ellsbury. Even Berrios looks like a very questionable sign at this point and there was endless criticism that the front office was not "serious " about winning and absolutely brain dead for letting Berrios go. The lists goes on and on so let's remember how many deals we all support that turn out to be horrible and harmful long-term. Every front office makes these mistakes. In this case they had the good sense to get out of it and there are still people that still don't recognize that it was a great trade to get out of the contract.

    Really? The top 5 hitters are Gallo / Jeffers / Vazquez / Buxton and Solano. 3 of the 5 we added and they worked with Jeffers to improve his offense and it’s working. That kind of significant improvement from within is more valuable than a trade or free agent. The two biggest problems have been Correa’s production and Polanco’s absence. To blame it on what they didn’t do this off-season is a convenient way to support a conclusion you came up with before the season started.

    I would take your brand of GM. Continuously producing long-term value makes for sustainable success. Pretty much what the Rays do. Anyone can trade the future for the present. That does not take great skill. Balancing the two .... Not so easy.

    I noticed Wolters stat line but he has never hit anywhere near the way he has this year so I assumed it was the product of a SSS. Would love for it to be a break out.

    It's a bit of a relief to see some catchers at the lower levels doing well. It was feeling a little barren for catchers. Hopefully, Vasquez and Jeffers stay healthy. A couple of these guys should be ready by the time Vasquez and Jeffers become free agents. It would be even better if a couple of them forced a trade.

    Marcus Semien was traded away after his first 927 Pas. At the time his stat line was .251 / .304 / .396. There are many other similar stories. Many players need a few hundred or a thousand PAs to get going at the MLB level. Obviously, history has some predictive value but there are far too many success stories after a slow start to conclude a player will never be good because of a stat line. Talk about making decisions based on a spreadsheet.

    I can't see them trading Larnach. That might work this year but next year Gallo / Kepler and Taylor are gone. I will continue to hope they find a trade partner for Kepler or Gordon or just cut Gordon.

    Could we get a halfway decent A ball prospect for Gordon or a 17-18 year old DSL player? That would be a more dignified option than cutting him.

    I don't understand the Baddoo example. He is terrible. His wRC+ last year was 65 and so for this year it's 63. How is it bad that the twins lost him? Wade jr. is also hardly a difference maker. He is off to a good start this year but he has a career WAR of 2.1 after 816 career PAs and Larnach has produce 1.9 in 566 PAs. The league has many examples of guys that were mediocre and then took off after a couple partial seasons. Let's not write off Larnach just yet.

    Castro seems like the likely choice. Larnach goes down when Farmer is ready. Let's hope that the return of Polanco and Kirilloff kickstarts the offense. It would sure help if Correa, Miranda, and Buxton get in in gear too.

    Why would you want him to fail? I would much prefer he get back to the form where he was a dominant bat like he was June-August last year. Lewis and his athleticism could be better utilized elsewhere. He could play all three OF positions and fill-in at SS / 2B as needed. He could even take over 2B from Polanco at some point in the next couple years. I just don't understand fans hoping a young player with a high ceiling will need to be replaced. Ironically, there was very similar dialogue from many people here last year right before he went off. Given this history, I think we should all be hoping for what he is capable of instead of writing him off.

    If we look at it in terms of 2022, Urshela and Sanchez performed well. Miranda's production was better than Donaldson. IKF and Donaldson were both mediocre players so hardly a big loss. I might call it a push or slight win for the twins. If we look at in terms of 2023-24 and beyond, unloading the 21.75M this year and the $8M buyout next year as opposed to having Donaldson on the roster, it's a big win for 2023-24. If Henriquez is a decent long reliever or better, it's even better.

    The Twins lost nothing. They were out of it in 2021 so those two months were meaningless. He was literally replacement value last year so they nothing. I would guess he bounces back but it may very well end up being a win to simply have not signed him to an extension of length he demanded.

    Sure looks like it. The problem is making room in CR. They already have Cardenas / Mack and Morales. Wichita has 4 catchers on their roster. I think he might get held back until they think one of the CR catchers is ready to move up. One of the Wichita catchers could get cut.

    I thought they might keep Kirilloff at AAA for a while to prove he was truly ready but he sure looks ready out of the gate. A couple weeks anywhere near this pace and it would be hard to keep him down. Kirilloff and Polanco on the right side of the infield will be a welcome sight. Can anyone enlighten me as to Cossetti's relative ability defensively?
