    I would certainly hope not. I am sure you have heard the saying praise in public, criticize in private or some version of this. It's just not effective to say anything bad publicly. Athletes today just do not respond well to public criticism.

    Not unless he demonstrates considerably better command for a reasonable period of time. His lack of command would likely be a real problem against major league hitters. I am excited he is pitching better but he has not demonstrated he is ready IMO.

    It's pretty simple really. BA only tells a relatively small portion of a hitter's impact on producing runs. Obviously, a player with a 280 BA can have an OBP of 300 or 350. They are not the same. Where the huge difference comes in is slugging percentage. If Judge and Arraez both bat 320, batting average is not even remotely going to reflect their individual offensive impact. IDK if BA is the worst stat but it is certainly a very incomplete measure of hitting.

    Wouldn't the best example be Judge vs Arraez last year. They had nearly identical BAs. However, Judge had a wRC+ that was 76 points higher. Would anyone argue Arraez had anywhere near the impact of Judge?

    The arm side run on the 1st pitch to Kirilloff has to be really tough for an umpire to determine if the pitch clips the front of the strike zone. The call on the inside pitch was simply horrible. Instances like the Kirilloff's AB are why we will have an electronic strike zone in the next couple of years. I just can't understand how anyone would prefer human error be allowed to impact a close ballgame like this one when it can be eliminated. Kirilloff took a good approach and the umpire took that AB away from Kirilloff and the Twins in a crucial spot.

    Correa definitely looks better. If Buxton would get going this team would look pretty good!

    Talk about full circle. A couple months ago a whole lot of people were quite down on Jeffers and said he had no business being the primary catcher.

    I agree completely at this point in time, but it could still change. I realize it's a relative longshot but the optimist in me hopes for Hidalgo to be a middle of the rotation guy. If that were to happen, ditching Donaldson and his salary, getting Urshella/Sanchez and 6 years of Hildago would make it #2 for me.

    Ryan for Cruz is #1 for me and Duran for the rental of Escobar is top 3. I don't see the trade of Josh Donaldson for Gio Urshela and Gary Sanchez on the list but that was a top 5 trade. Thank god we are not still saddled with that contract. They got a good year out of Urshella and a decent year out of Sanchez.. Then they flipped Urshella and basically replaced one remaining year of Urshella for 2 years of Farmer. It will be even higher if Hidalgo turns out to be a decent ML pitcher. The Mahle trade may turn out to be the worst. Quite a few of us disliked it at the time and suggested they bolster the BP but not invest that much prospect capital for a team that was in first place but was not a legitimate contender. However, if those prospects fizzle it's no loss. We shall see over the next few years.

    Brooks Lee has a wRC+ of 97 at AA. .267 / .328 / .422 is decent but also does not suggest he has conquered AA. I think the calls for him to join the ML club are a bit premature.

    They will have the money to get a top free agent SP next year. Try that first. Mahle could be a fall-back option.

    I had the same thought but I just don't know how to predict who might fall, especially this early. Right now it looks pretty certain the 1st pick will be an OFer. Some of the national guys say there is a big drop off after #5 but maybe someone else rushes up the board. I guess what I would hope for is a high ceiling pitcher at 34 and a catcher at 49. Don't get me wrong, draft the best available. I just hope that includes a pitcher and a catcher.

    I don't support booing either. I was just confused because of your past support. I thought you were speaking of your dollars and I guess you were coming from the angle others should voice their opinion through their wallets. Of course, the net of that is we demand the team spends but we won't support the spending if it does not work out as well as we like. That's just the reality with professional sports teams but we should acknowledge that we demand spending but only spend ourselves if not only that player but the whole teams does well. That's the way it should be. I am just saying we might not recognize that we expect their financial commitment while reserving the right to withhold ours if the plan we support even demand does not work out.

    You were a huge advocate of signing him, correct? The money is spent and the contract is guaranteed for the 1st 6 years. What's the message for ownership?

    The flexibility in the future would be crazy if Hellman is a legit breakout prospect. Can you imagine the flexibility when Lewis gets here with Hellman, Castro, and Gordon on the bench. Hopefully, Martin is better than all of them and displaces one of them. That would make it easy to have Julien on the roster as a primary DH. I had kind of written off Balazovic. It would be great if once again becomes one of our best pitching prospects. The same could be said for Canterino who is presently out of sight and out of mind..

    I sure hope what we are seeing indicates Kirilloff's wrist problems are gone for good. I thought of all of the question marks coming into this season, Kirilloff's health and return to form was the most important of those things to be answered in a positive way. I sure would like to watch him in the middle of the line-up for the next several years.

    I think your portrayal of the situation is fair. I too am happy for Rooker. I am just not happy our that organization won't be benefiting from his performance, especially given they never invested a modest number of Abs in him. I also thought this example and others like him should be considered when fans are ready to dump other young players before they are given a reasonable chance.

    What if we could find 15 humans that could call the balls and strike perfectly. Would you remove all others and put the 15 people who did it perfectly behind the plate for every game?

    I don't like this interim step because of the delay but calling the strike zone electronically would be instantaneous, so this is a really poor foundation on which to argue against an automated strike zone. We all love baseball just like you and we are all aware of how different the outcome is ahead or behind in the count. A bad call often significantly changes an AB and that diminishes the product. These bad calls punish a pitcher or batter for taking a good AB or making a great pitch. It changes the game. So, for some of us, this is just unacceptable if the technology is available to get it right, especially given this form of review would require absolutely no delay.

    I like MAT and have no problem if he remains here the rest of the year. I always give more weight to the long-term impact and Lewis taking that role would be great for the team. It's really too bad they drafted Cavaco instead of Carroll. We would have the perfect combination had they picked Carroll who was at the top or near top of the best available at the time.

    What a shock ... An umpire is against taking away something from umpires. Why should players have to figure out what "strike zone" an umpire is using every game. When is something like this in any other business where technology could get it right every time accepted? A wrong call especially in call where it's 2:1 or 1:1 have a very significant impact on that AB. Why should we accept this when it's going to be relatively easy to rectify.

    Would love to see Lewis here before the halfway point. That might be wishful thinking, but we could sure use him. He could play every day between CF/LF/3B not necessarily in that order. It would be just fine if Miranda did the same 180 he did last year and Royce mainly played 3B against LH pitching. Solano seemed like an insurance policy when they signed him. I no longer see the need if Kirilloff is truly healthy. That makes him the most expendable IMO. It would be another positive if Royce negated the need for MAT. Perhaps they could get something for him at the deadline.

    Sending him down last year worked great. Of course, I am kidding because he was back up immediately. However, maybe it will be a wakeup call. many of us did not support trading away that much for Mahle. He just is not that big of an impact. For me it was that last years team just did not warrant a big deadline push that traded away good long-term assets. Yes, many said we were in first place and had to go for it. To me, they may have been in first place but they were not even remotely a contender.

    Hell No. Blown calls sway the outcome of games. Blown calls on pitches dramatically alter a plate appearance. I want the players to control 100% of the outcome not umpires. No way will I prefer an unfair result if it can be corrected to a significant degree.

    Sure would like to see Rodriguez get it together. SSS but an average in the 150s is concerning.
