  1. Kepler (or Buxton) plus prospects gets you more starting pitching in trade than the same trade with Schoop. While Machado fills a need directly, the trade can fill an even bigger need in pitching and both Machado and Harper add a ton to the lineup. I’d be thrilled with either, but I couldn’t resist the trade scenario. Harper
  2. Steamer projects 77 homeruns for the trio. The Bat projects 92. Only 8 players hit 34 dingers last year but Cruz was one of them and Cron was in striking distance with 30. Big if, but Sano has 30 homer power if he can stay healthy. 100 homers isn’t impossible

  4. Nelson Cruz is 37 years old, how long do you think he’ll play? I think he’s a good signing, but it’s his ride into the sunset. Similarly Ryan signed Jim Thome. Is Lance Lynn so different from Phil Hughes or Ricky Nolasco? I give the FO credit for turning expiring contracts into quality minor leaguers, something Ryan never did. Seems like we’re in for more of that in 2019 Time will tell if the FO fixed the coaching/development system. They’ve talked the talk, but then smooth talk is a Falvey strength. We’ll see if talk turns into action. It had better.
  5. ownership hasn’t changed, DSP is still the president, and Falvine haven’t spent any differently than Ryan. Maybe their decision making has some additional information behind it, but the wallet is still the same. Until evidence of the contrary, why assume differently?
  6. baseball is a team sport with a championship predicated in transitioning from 162 game season to a 5 game season followed by a 7 game season, followed by a seven game season. Post season metrics are a very small sample size for individual players

  8. I’m stone cold sober and think this has some merit. At least cycle through one of the pitchers in that slot (alternating) and bringing up one hitter.
  9. I agree with you prediction. Considering Detroit, KC (both 100 loss candidates again) and Cleveland went backwards this offseason and ChiSox have so far basically treaded water, 80-82 wins is going backwards for the Twins. Im not ok with 80-82 wins Agreed on the indecisive nature of the FO. It’s maddening
  10. should and will are two different things. I think they should spend and won’t. I would characterize your stance as they won’t spend and you agree with the FO. No?
  11. Bingo! "number" doesn't matter but "More" is really fair
  12. Pohlads also get ownership stake in FSN in lieu of a greater share of revenue. The Twins make far more than is reported in these types of scenarios.
  13. they ain’t gonna spend on a winner either. 2002-2010 were playoff years and always came up short due to unwillingness to buy those last couple pieces to get over the hump.
  14. 87 wins isn’t enough, and D- is too generous for resource allocation. 100 mil payroll in 2013 is fine. 100 mil in 2019 with the core entering arbitration is absolutely F. If G was possible, that’s what they deserve. Aim low, get low.
  15. At least Adams titles and frames the article in a more up front way. In terms of need and resources, Twins make a ton of sense. We all know it isn't happening, but if logic mattered, the Twins would be legitimately in on Machado. I'm not paying to read the ESPN article, but the click-bait nature of the title along with the consternation leads me to believe that ESPN wasn't very genuine.
  16. agreed, all major league teams depend almost exclusively on home grown talent. The Twins have been unsuccessful at developing homegrown talent. They’ve sucked for 8 years with high draft picks and nothing to show for it. What do you do about, just accept it and wallow in self pity and wait for JP to can you? Do you acquire better players to fill gaps while your pipeline continues to develop? I don’t have a problem with Schoop/Cron/Cruz. All reasonable improvements to the hitters. The pitching side is apathetic, especially with the contracts and talent available this offseason. Parker is fine as ancillary, but he’s looking like the best pitcher acquired this offseason. Perez is a joke. If he had one good pitch you could maybe make a case. Maybe.... sad part is, if 5th starter were an open competition with in house options I would have been much happier. At least then it’s development for its own sake.
  17. with the current state of the “rotation” they can’t afford any Loogy’s. All of your relievers will have to be counted on for an inning or more.
  18. 2002 they won 70 games in the second half of the season. How do you predict that at the trade deadline?
  19. Long would be somewhere in the 10-20 range for the Twins and a comp pick for a year of a solid mid rotation starter isn’t so bad. I’m with you on Perez, better to go in house than Perez. A- you need more than one pitcher with 20+ MLB starts under his belt for 2020 B- Mejia as the floor is just as good if not better than Perez and Mejia is a strikeout/fly ball guy which fits the team fielding strength better than the ground ball machine.
  20. Gray in context of the Twins would be a monumental step up over Martin Perez and has a higher likelihood than Pineda of being "good". He got 3/30 extension and already has 7 on the books for 19. 4 years 37 million for a mid rotation starter is perfectly reasonable, and he seems to be a better bet than Ricky Nolasco.
  21. My point in this is 2019 could be 2002 all over again, where a couple of well placed pitching improvements could be the difference between winning/losing a wild card game and winning the division maybe making a playoff push.
  22. that's the one I could remember/find - Pohlad and Ryan have said as much a few times times over the last 5-6 years or so
  23. Judy from Big Lake is my hero http://twinsdaily.com/topic/31775-article-rundown-judy-from-big-lake-baldelli-buxton-meeting-and-more/?fromsearch=1 https://www.twincities.com/2018/11/17/charley-walters-vikings-need-back-to-back-north-conquests/ Quote Mauer’s retirement leaves the Twins without a $23 million salary commitment for next season. But that doesn’t necessarily mean an extra $23 million for free agency, club owner Jim Pohlad said. “It’s not like ‘OK, we’ve got this money now, and we didn’t have it before, so we can do so much more,’ ” Pohlad said. “I don’t feel that way.” End Quote I’m still pissed
  24. the beauty of free agency is you don't stop drafting and developing your minor league talent. OK, so how long do you have until your fan base stops showing up? Do we need to go back to retraction? It's a business that needs to sell tickets, shirseys, concessions and TV deals with a significant portion of the fans, even the most rabid and long term, are getting very close to giving up on them. Ask the Rays who won 90 dames and still no one shows up. What do you do if Sano, Kepler, and Buxton take the strides forward that we all hope they do? The pitching is awful and was the issue last year. It's worse this year.
  25. the Braves blew it up in 2014 and rebounded 4 years later. The Twins never blew it up, this rebuild has already been going for 8 years. Does it need to go 13? 20? The Braves aren't a bad model, but it's too late to go that route now. The franchise would be ruined.
