  1. because you can’t argue with the cop. You have to make your case with the judge. Heck of a lot of work for a $150 speeding ticket, but .... https://www.pennlive.com/news/2018/02/were_you_wrongly_ticketed_for.html Now you’ll notice it’s not exactly apples to apples as it’s not the same device. Point is, technology is fallible.
  2. Francisco Lindor made 10 mil in his first year of Arbitration. No way the Indians can afford the arb raises, and he won’t extend. My guess is he gets traded this year. Kluber is 32... Kipnis and Santana gotta be on the edge.... Twins and Whitesox didn’t really get “better” though.
  3. why not both. Improving the coaching infrastructure was critical to the offseason.... so was improving the talent.
  4. I agree, but my guess is the rotation won’t get help until the trade deadline.
  5. don’t sleep on Kohl Stewart. While not a big K guy, he was solid in his debut.
  6. I like the snippets of Marni’s play by play, she and Hawkins would make good broadcast booth post DickN’Bert
  7. On Jan 30, we had no snow on the ground and were worried about pipes freezing and bursting. Sorry the pic of my patio table is sideways, I can’t figure out how to rotate
  8. oh no! Perish the thought! Too many valuable trade assets? Whatever shall we do?
  9. Yadier will have a tougher time. Hitters tend to have an easier time than fielders. I’m not sure Joe caught long enough “really deserve it”. However, the hall of fame is becoming the hall of very good. I think both get in eventually. To the OP: I like your points and it’s fun to get activity here from non Twins fans. It’s surprising from a Cards fan. I still think back to ‘87 fondly.... That being said, I got to see Pujols in his prime at Busch. He put on a clinic and it was awesome.
  10. There are people with the allergy that are severe enough, that they don't have to consume them to react. There is a child in my kids' daycare that if he inhales peanut fumes, he/she reacts. The entire daycare center is peanut free, and my wife and I choose not to feed our children peanut butter for breakfast on weekdays. And so we have a question about how far is too far. Clearly banning bees would be sacrificing the planet to protect the minority. Not only is banning bees near impossible, but as the most important pollinator in our ecosystem, changing or altering their environment to that extent could put us all in peril of suffocation. I don't know the answer to this one, but I think the yard goats chose to sacrifice the protesters in order to entice kids with peanut allergies. I give them credit for making a choice and taking a stand.
  11. I like this format. I’m not a fan of Twitter, and quit several years ago. I follow your feed(and many others) but i’ll never get back into Twitter. This feels more intimate/inviting. I appreciate your thoughtful response to my question. As to during games... it’s also during game threads. GTs are Vegas for me. I’m not as active in them as I was when TD first launched, but I usually check in a couple times during a game, a few games a week. What happens in GTs stays in GTs, and it’s really tangential. I like that, and don’t want to compete with that. If this were to become a regular or semi regular thing, it would be great if it were around the season landmarks. ST, Opener, Draft, All Star, non Waiver deadline, waiver deadline/roster expansion, hopefully wild card and so on...
  12. Huge coaching shakeup in the off season. What is the impact in spring training so far? How are the players accepting and adapting to the new techniques and points of view? How is this perceived as rippling through hte minor leagues?
  13. fifth starter should have been solved by acquiring a front of rotation starter and bump Pineda down. If not, then agreed, see what you got. I’m with you, I’d gladly eat crow, but what if we’re right AND Pineda is still lame? Cripes that’s a lot riding on Mejia and Gonsalves/Stewart/Thorpe! Suddenly the rotation gets very thin, fast
  14. I get the feeling Austin is going to be Waived heading into the regular season. I hope he sneaks through to AAA, because I’d like to see him continue progressing with the Twins. If he got claimed, it wouldn’t be the end of the world. I can’t wait for Perez to get DFA’d.
  15. this is a really good post! Any thoughts to working this up in a longer form? Maybe a blog post? I’d like to see this fleshed out and bit of debate in the forum
  16. agreed. Falvey and Levine also love to trade away expiring contracts. Look for Castro to get the 2/3 share until mid July then get traded away
  17. There are so many things about this that I disagree with, but let’s start with facts. 1) MLB’s “play ball” initiative has been very successful. Kids are playing baseball in increasing numbers. Football and concussions may have a role here. https://www.sportsbusinessdaily.com/Daily/Issues/2018/04/12/Leagues-and-Governing-Bodies/Baseball.aspx https://www.foxsports.com/mlb/story/study-shows-youth-baseball-softball-participation-on-the-rise-051817 2) strike zone doesn’t cost anything and the idea of automation is the “easy way out”. Clearly the game needs to change to fit the consumer’s taste/preference for consuming the product. When MLB was first started, every game was during the day, and the “purists” said “lights? Please! Your ruining the game”. Now the game doesn’t fit how television is consumed anymore. Pace of play and all that has to do with TV slotting and advertising revenue. Games that go into “overtime” cost ad revenue. You can’t have advertising safety stock. Same goes with the strike zone. No one tunes in to see the umpire insert himself into the game. As in football the subjectivity of officiating and the awful pauses in action that it causes is painful. While robot umpires in football are science fiction right now, robot strike zone in baseball is 30 year old technology. It could be installed in every ballpark before 2020 opening day. Just do it! Pain free, consistent, reliable strike zone for every pitch. I’m so sick of Angel Hernandez inserting himself into every stinking game. It’s not easy, it’s a huge change, fundamentally altering the game we love. That’s not swiping an app, it’s a huge culture shift.
  18. “going to be”?Already are a lot of bitter fans.
  19. If you trade away Rosario, don’t you lose the flexibility you gained by signing Marwin?
  20. https://www.kare11.com/mobile/video/sports/talented-teen-enjoying-first-big-league-camp-with-twins/89-8f0bf2cf-6ca2-4538-a7db-96d1886127d6 Is this the Royce one? Does it work?
  21. agreed, there are significant IF questions. there are also significant outfield questions. My hunch is Granite comes off the 40 to make room for Gonzalez. Counting on Cave to repeat .800 OPS (or even .730) while sporting 30% k rate and 6% bb rate with only one season of showing any power seems foolish. Buxton has been hurt every major league season. Rosario had his breakout, and has been known to leave his head in the clubhouse during games. Kepler seems on the verge of breaking out and has been the model of consistency. So 1 out of 4 is really reliable and one seems pretty close. Kepler is doomed to be injured for large stretches of 2019. That’s just how it works for Twins fans. My guess is Cave, and Big Toe get stashed in AAA to start the season. Astudillo starts the season on the bench but gets sent down when a 8th reliever is needed, and if Polanco or Schoop get injured significantly, Big Toe comes up. Austin gets DFA’d and they’ll try to sneak him through waivers during the crush at the end of ST.
  22. Yugo Florida sold in the US from 1989-1991 was a diesel.... so nope.... Yugo did not “need a spark plug”. http://www.autosavant.com/2008/03/10/yugo’s-manufacturer-fights-back-with-modern-diesel-technology/ As an added bonus Yugos were made until 2008!
