  1. It’s always great to get the humanity behind the machine. Good luck to Jacob on the field, behind the camera, and with his bride to be.
  2. If the Twins in 2019 come up 3 wins short of winning the division and miss the wild card, but Buxton and Sano flop are you ready to give the FO a pass? Is it OK, because the FO didn't know what they had in Buxton and Sano? It takes more than an entire 40 man roster to win. You can't wait for two or three players to click.
  3. Between Garver’s concussion and Castro’s knee having reasonable possibility of recurrence, I get the feeling there will be plenty of opportunity/need for Astudillo behind the dish. I like Astudillo’s bat where ever I can get it, save for first base. There’s only about 30% of the 40 man roster devoted to first/DH.
  4. while every other program gets fast forwarded through the commercials, sports are watched live. The add revenue for sports is climbing while other TV add revenue shrinks. Until MLB cuts out cable co, owning the regional sports networks is a boon. If the team owners succeed, the current model is likely to continue for quite some time. If the MLB succeed in their bid for all 21(I think) networks together, it could hasten the move to only streaming.
  5. go 96 was also a testament to Pohlad’s expertise with media ownership as well
  6. All kidding aside, this is very minor and great for the game. Jim Abbott could play, he was only on that list when he was injured, but was for his entire career "disabled". "Injured list" is absolutely the right way to go.
  7. Welcome Stu, I was disappointed earlier this winter, but now thrilled to continue to read your work.
  8. you’re more likely to have runners on batting 7th in the Yankees lineup than 5th in the Twins, no? Yankees had 5 players around 500 plate appearances with a .330 OBP. Twins had 1. Had to go down to 300 plate appearances for the Twins to hit 5... that’s 800 additional Yankee plate appearances with a respectable .330 OBP in 2018. I guess I’d be more careful with Austin in NY he’d be more likely to come to the plate with runners on.
  9. they have similar iso as well, but there’s one important stat that is very different. Sano’s Walk rate is significantly higher career 11.9% to Austin’s 7.4%.
  10. there is that “agreement” thing that gets a bit tricky when money becomes involved.
  11. Astudillo?
  12. This seems logical, but how accurate is it? How sure are we that Escobar was lowballed on his extension from Falvine? Is it possible Escobar was looking for a change of scenery and just liked the scenery better in Arizona?
  13. And now all of the ceremonial pitchers are all retired MLB pitchers since walks count as a run
  14. This - I'm not against specific rules that would encourage competition and parity throughout the MLB, but I am against vague concepts being passed off as rules for the commissioner to arbitrarily hand down edicts. Rules need to be clear, concise, and adjudicated without argument.
  15. with the pitch clock, I'd like to see that the batter has to stay in the box. quit screwing around with all your accessories between every pitch.
  16. with a rotation of Berrios, Gibson, Odorizzi, Pineda and Perez, and assuming Pineda isn’t still hurt, the 6th starter, presumably Mejia would be in line for 10ish starts/primary appearances. The 7th man up, maybe 5? the rest 8-11 look for 1 a piece. Also, there’s nothing magical about 20 starts. Mejia got 25 and still could use a good long look to see what you got. It was a number I threw out there. So is the plan to sign 2-3 of those elite free agent primary pitchers? How many of those guys are actually going to make it to free agency? Hopefully Gibson comes off that list this spring. I’ve said in other posts that I think the FO is going to try to trade for a pitcher from their outfield depth. Easier said than done
  17. I still think the Twins are trading an outfielder. My guess is that was the plan all along, and couldn't swing a trade this offseason. My prediction Reed starts the season as the 4th outfielder, Granite and Cave will get options exercised One of Buxton or Kepler (my guess is Buxton) gets traded around the deadline for a pitcher and Reed becomes right fielder, if he shows the promise he did as a youngster, Jordany Valdespin gets the first call to 4th OF.
  18. Fun article, the OP and I are largely in agreement. When they introduced the Kasota gold, I was ok with it.... I’ve grown to hate it... Also not a fan of the wide stripes like football jersey from the 72 home/road.
  19. Great post and I think your comparison is spot on!
