  1. It's understandable to not want to be doing the same thing as the Rockies. In the tweet you linked the Royals are second in MLB in overage%. The Royals definitely aren't a franchise we should be modeling after either.
  2. I was curious since the premise of this question all summer has been regarding giving extra money to guys drafted in the 11-20 range to go over the Twins bonus pool. I quickly looked through the MLB.com top 100 rankings and here are the players in the top 100 who were not picked in the first 10 rounds and their signing bonus: C Logan Hoppe 23rd round 2018 $215,000 RHP Ben Brown 33rd round 2017 $60,000 There are currently two guys in the MLB.com top 100 who weren't picked in the top 10 rounds. They were both picked in rounds that no longer exist and certainly didn't cost $1.2 million (extra bonus pool + tax penalty) to sign. This doesn't include Julien who we know was briefly in the top 100 and signed for just shy of $500k. Outside of those two, there was one guy picked in the 7th and a couple others in the 5th round. The vast majority were 1st round picks and international free agents. It is interesting the Twins are 1 of 2 teams to have never gone over their bonus pool. I'm all for the Twins spending as much as they can to acquire players but I don't have a problem with this. It would be different if the Twins had been terrible at drafting but that hasn't been the case.

  4. Are any of his peripherals remotely encouraging? If not, then IL stint makes the most sense on the surface. We're told he's too injured to play the field. If he's that injured it's not a stretch to believe it is now impacting his performance with the bat. He's been downright awful for a while now and that's putting it nicely. There are easy replacements on the roster to improve DH and the lineup. The problem is we don't know exactly what the injury is. From what we've been told, it's some kind of chronic issue/lingering from last year/potentially needs another procedure done. If that is the case, then Buck going to the IL doesn't mean he's going to get healthier this season. If a procedure is needed maybe it's time to start considering doing that now. One thing is clear, putting him at DH every day batting 3rd/4th is hurting the team and it has been since the end of April.
  5. Schmidt #1 by a landslide
  6. I have a 20 game season ticket package and I'll plan on still going to the rest of my games. I still watch/pay attention to most of the games. My interest has fallen off a cliff the last two weeks. This team clearly doesn't have it and I'm tired of watching this offense.
  7. If only we had a Platinum Glove winning center fielder to play CF instead of a utility player thrown out there.
  8. I mean, let's be real. If we're not talking about Miranda hitting at a level where he needs to be on the Twins, then this article is pointless. If he is hitting at a level where he needs to be on the Twins, it wouldn't be difficult to find him a spot and playing time.
  9. We have almost literally 1000 left handed batters. In what way would a young right handed bat with impact potential be a problem?
  10. On top of all of these points, Byron Buxton is a former Platinum Glove winner at CF. The team and lineup overall are simply worse with Buxton/Taylor locked in at DH/CF
  11. Easily our top prospect. Can't wait to see him at Target Field once he is ready
  12. Disagree. I want Buck to stay healthy as much as or more than anyone. He is easily the most exciting player on the team. He's one of the best defensive players in baseball. That goes for any position, not just CF. Buck has also been clocked as the fastest player in baseball in previous years and I'd have to believe he's still up there in that category. He's no longer being allowed to play CF and now we're asking him to not run the bases? I mean what's the point? Again, I want him to be healthy as much as anyone. I don't know what the short or long term answer is. However, the answer simply cannot be not allowing him to play baseball.
  13. Royce Lewis playing 3B on the Twins this summer would just be fantastic
  14. I think before saying anything about the offense we need to acknowledge that 5/9 preseason expected starters aren't even playing right now. Polanco and Kirilloff starting on the IL already put the lineup behind, then 3 additional starters having to sit out/be placed on the IL this early in the season has really had the lineup counting on depth players more often than we would like. Hopefully Julien provides a spark until guys can get healthy.
  15. Seth, any idea how they're planning to split SS time between Salas and Miller? Or is one of them just moving to 2B?
  16. Yes it is, and I think even more players should be encouraged to go. Look at the experience these players gained and look at the environments they played in. I'd much rather have Twins players preparing for the season in those situations than the glorified scrimmages that spring training games are. Injuries suck. They're going to happen. There is only so much that can be done to prevent them. None of the injuries in the WBC were caused by overuse/misuse. The pitchers all had strict pitch count limits. Gavin Lux is out for the season from an injury in a spring training game. Injuries can't be an excuse for not playing the WBC
  17. I know Lee had a good start to his professional career and I can see the concerns with Lewis after another knee injury. I'm still taking him as the Twins top prospect 7 days of the week. I'm very excited to see what he can do this year.
