  1. I have been a (frustrated) fan of Sano just as I was a fan of Eddie (at times frustrated there too). Watching those two emerge with Buxton, Berrios and Polanco was fun! (Sorry, just was never on the Kepler bandwagon). Now the new wave is coming (which I’m excited about) and 2 are gone from the previous wave. Another may soon follow. This is the life of a fan. Waves come up, some stay, some go and some just need to go. I love to sing “Let it Sano, Let it Sano, Let it Sano” after a home run (especially the walk offs) and would love to sing it through the playoffs and up to his World Series MVP crown. But, alas, I expect this is his last week as a Twin. I think he SHOULD be traded for whatever you can get from an NL team OR anyone else willing to bite, but I will also be sad when it happens.
  2. That was my favorite Grocery store in town but Cub Foods decided to move to town. They had the same suppliers so they told their suppliers they couldn’t supply Petricka’s anymore. Forced them to close down. There is a retirement center there now. I enjoy canoeing down the cannon river from Faribault and pull my canoe out right beside what used to be the store…
  3. Minor point of interest, Petricka may have been born and begun his life in Northfield but he grew up in and graduated from Faribault. Having lived in Northfield for 20 years and worked in Faribault Public Schools 18 years while he was a student, I’d consider him a Faribault native… especially given Faribault and Northfield are rivals and don’t like each other much. Northfield is also credited with being a birthplace for Thielbar but he is from Randolph not Northfield. At least Randolph and Northfield tend to like each other though. As a Northfield Raider, we find it amusing to get credit for these two…
  4. Acquiring a starter can improve the bullpen when one of the starters becomes a long reliever. If they'd just plan on Archer or Bundy or Winder being a reliever that went once through a line up each time they were used as a reliever, that could be a HUGE boost to the bullpen! A starter used this way once every 3-4 days when you have a 6th or 7th starter? I don't know why teams aren't doing this with how our modern game is being managed...
  5. And then you have 2018 which has 3.0 War already with Larnach, Jeffers, Sands and Winder. If I remember right, 2017 Falvey and Levine didn’t change a whole lot and they really reworked the organization the following off season.
  6. Having you join the TD family has been one of my favorite things about the Twins being in Cedar Rapids. Your first hand accounts and knowledge of the game is so appreciated. Thank you!
  7. Looking at his Splits, he is hitting 1.200 OPS against Older Pitchers and 1.100 (Both #s rounded off...) so this is not necessarily age inflated but he only has an OPS in .800's on the road so he is only super human at home....
  8. The full story on players can be seen when looking at their years and careers in review (Larger Sample Sizes) instead of focusing on the prolonged slumps and amazing streaks. In 7 years, Sano has averaged a 1.2 WAR which includes his 2 injury shortened seasons which were a -0.5 combined. These were offset by his two years of greater than 2.0 WAR. Last year was an even 1.0 WAR. So he isn't as BAD as some would say, he just is merely an average MLB player which is disappointing for someone with so much potential as shown by the hot streaks. https://www.baseball-reference.com/players/s/sanomi01.shtml Also in 7 years, Kepler is a 2.1 WAR player and that includes his only negative war season when he was called up for 3 games and 7 plate appearances. https://www.baseball-reference.com/players/k/keplema01.shtml I have no problem waiting for Prospects to be fully ready before pushing decent (I didn't say great or even good... I said decent) players out the door. I don't just want to flush the season down the toilet because I'm impatient and I have this nice shiny new toy that may struggle at first when called up because that's what MOST rookies do even when they end up great. (See Buxton's 138 PA rookie year/0.4 WAR https://www.baseball-reference.com/players/b/buxtoby01.shtml) By the way, if you wonder what these numbers mean, this page would suggest Sano is a "Role Player" and Kepler falls into the "Solid Starter" range. See the Context part of the article with the Chart defining what the numbers mean. https://library.fangraphs.com/misc/war/#:~:text=League-average WAR rates vary,if they crack %2B1 WAR. And if you're going to try to blast my response, please use logic and stats. Thank you.
  9. It seems this Front Office LOVES players that can play multiple positions. With Miranda, Polanco, Lewis, and Buxton ahead of Martin, position flexibility will come in handy for all of them (See Luis Arraez) even if long term they have a specific position they will end up on all the time (See Buxton and Polanco)
  10. I’m more along the lines of hoping he’s 1 year in the bullpen type and then takes the Johan Santana path to Ace pitcher. It’s not like he is a 2 trick pony… that 87 mile an hour Curve mixed in with the Splinker? He Nasty!! Let’s not limit his potential quite yet…
  11. I think the other part of this was that the Padres have been rumored to be looking for a Major League ready corner outfielder and don't want to increase payroll which fits Larnach's profile fairly well.
  12. My word is “Cautiously ”. I am an eternal optimist but also a 53 year old Minnesota sports fan so… I am cautiously hoping for a season that ends with at least one playoff win. I am cautiously optimistic that Archer will rediscover his form and with the help of our pitching gurus reprogram himself back into a number 2-3 starter. I believe in Buxton and cautiously hope for a healthy season and MVP votes. I cautiously believe this team will only get better as the season progresses. I am cautiously excited to see Correa wearing #4 in baby blues. Iam also cautiously excited to see what Kiriloff can do in a full season healthy. I am cautiously optimistic that some of these young starters will push their way up and emerge as a front line starter I am cautiously hopeful that Maeda will return to full health and lead us to the post season promise land! World Series Baby!! ok, now I am losing my Caution… better quit… this is Minnesota Sports still…
  13. Exactly this! I am dumbfounded, confused and upset! What the heck do we want with Sánchez and Urshela?
  14. I did not know this Boat Cruise to Key West was a thing!! I might have to do this some day...
  15. I find it impossible to discuss the full list of drops without knowing the full list of "need to protect from the Rule V" You have the obvious drops and you have the fringe. Well, if you have to add x number of players, you need to drop enough to make room. This is the difference maker for the Garlicks, Astudillos, Gordon's of the world.
  16. I really enjoyed this exercise and look forward to seeing how many of these pan out as predicted
  17. I would happily give up Balazovic for Castillo as the center pieces with Castellanos contract reducing the additional pieces. If we still need prospect filler, Larnach, Gordon, Dobnak, Rortvedt, Astudillo, (I could go on) Load them up with second to third tier prospects that we just don't have room for. If we really are looking elsewhere for a potential shortstop, we can also be looking at adding Polanco or Arraez to this mix and possibly gaining one or two of their relievers while were at it. We have the resources to make a blockbuster trade.
  18. I remember when Wade first joined the Twins organization and the report on him was high floor, low ceiling. Does all the little things right but does not have the all star potential. He seems to be fitting that description well and players like that are useful. On this Twins team moving forward, I see Wade as insurance. Cave is coming to the end of his time in Minnesota and will be priced out of the 4th outfielder role soon though maybe he is still affordable next year for his role. After 2021, Cave is not going to be around (might not be here next year) Wade is controllable and provides that depth insurance. Meanwhile Rosario has gotten expensive and Larnach, Rooker, and Kirriloff are clamoring for their turns. There is a good chance Rosario's time is coming to an end but these young guns are going to have learning curves and will likely be up and down a few times.Wade is a better defender than all 3 of them and could be a pinch runner/defensive substitution type as well. If they do not pan out, we need a back up plan on the train back and forth from Rochester (or St. Paul) and a good person for that is Wade. (And there is no rush to start burning Celestino's clock while waiting for him to be truly ready) What if Buxton goes down and we don't have Cave anymore? Kepler moves to Center (we have seen plenty of that already) and Kepler's corner is easily replaced by one of the 3 prospects or Wade. I expect we will see Wade as quite useful over the next 3-4 seasons and then he will likely fade into Twins History as his Arb years run out.
  19. My understanding is the active Roster will be 30 in July, 28 in August and 26 in September. More active players to start to allow more games played but paired down as offseason approaches... I’m open to correction if I’m wrong
  20. First undefeated team in MLB history? Let’s go!!
  21. This list made me realize how much greatness is fromoutside the US. Omitted from the post are Bert Blyleven, Tony Oliva, Rod Carew andJohan Santana Twins bests from Cuba,Panama,Venezuela and Netherlands. Also some of our biggest names ever.
