  1. With the 26 man roster, it may be easier for rebuilding teams to stash a player but I just don’t see it happening with a player that hasn’t been above A ball so I don’t think Javier or Rijo will be taken and kept all year, but I can see Jax being stashed away. I can also see a rebuilding team giving Wiel a spin and seeing what he does. I mean, why not? It’s a free trial and worst case scenario you send him back to the Twins AAA. Same scenario for Reed.
  2. Natural causes as a released cause of death is just an early way for medical field professionals and examiners to state no foul play, illegal activities, accidents, suicides, etc. suspected. In short, it’s a way of saying “some type of medical issue” like the aforementioned congenital heart defect without stating precisely what it was. This is indeed sad news. My Thoughts and prayers are with the family he left behind.
  3. If Wes Johnson and the brain trust see something they could tweak, a guy that throws complete games and has 197 inning seasons would definitely be worth a #6-#10 prospect. Especially for a young guy still learning. Too many people think what a rookie player shows is their best. Usually you don’t know what you got until years 3-5. After a meeting with my pitching gurus, I’d make the proposed trade
  4. There needs to be a hate button. Not that you're wrong, just that I would hate it if you're right.
  5. My apologies for participating in a hijacking of this thread and pledge to stay on topic going forward. Having said that, I have been a firm believer that Kirrilloff and Lewis will both push their ways onto the Major League Roster this coming year and not just as September call ups but actually push their way up. I do not think we will be able to hold him down until 2021.
  6. Trades are not like shopping at Target, it’s like a barter system. Of course they are going to ask for both of them and our starting offer is Gordon and Wiel. The question is where it will end up not who they initially ask for. Maybe it ends up being Kirrilloff, Gordon, Jax, Blankenhorn, and a couple names most of us don’t know. And yes, if it makes us World Series contenders for the next 3-4 seasons, I’ll make the trade
  7. If you wait to figure out which ones are keepers, the value of the non keepers has evaporated. The point of having lots of talent is to make the MLB team World Series contenders. If that means trading them for needed pieces, then that is part of the reason to have had them. We cannot sit on our prospects forever worried that we may give away a valuable piece instead of trading them for a valuable piece we KNOW we need.
  8. I'm Definitely adding Duran, Chalmers, Blankenhorn, Raley and Jax. They are all AA-AAA players and more likely to get taken than anyone at FM or below. Celestino and Javier give me pause because of talent level as does Wiel because he's so close already. I say, Make a trade that includes some of these before the Rule 5 draft and we don't have to worry about a numbers crunch.
  9. I am enjoying the book immensely. Thank you to all that put in so many hours compiling this!!!
  10. Oh wow, I never considered the increased velocity of pitches and it being harder to duck out of the way when considering why there seem to be more concussions!
  11. Travis, Thank you so much for taking the time to interact with us on TD, this is the best thread since the end of the season! The Twins franchise seems to have had a lot of bad luck with concussions from Mauer, Buxton and Morneau on the MLB team to players like you in the minors where they really cut up promising careers. Hopefully Buxton is able to have a long career but do you have any insight on why the concussions are having such an impact in the last 10-15 years? Is it an awareness thing that has always happened and we just didn't understand it until now or is there something going on with equipment/the way the game is being played? Is there any personal insight into the concussions you would like to share or maybe this is a topic of a future thread?
  12. You said it all before I could say it.
  13. I think we would be better off with Syndegaard and Wade Than Rosario and not have a Syndegaard type. Wade would only be that fall back guy if one of the bigger outfield prospects doesn't push his way up in Spring Training. With Kirrilloff, Larnach, Rooker, Wiel, and Raley all a step away, I would be surprised if one of them doesn't push their way up early in the season if not straight out of Spring Training.
  14. How old was Jorge Polanco when he first appeared?
  15. But taking this one step further which is where I think the OP would suggest we go, lets do all of these things. Trade from depth for the really good controllable player, keep the guys we want for depth AND sign a big name free agent! If we traded Rosario and lesser prospects for Syndegaard, Kirrilloff or Larnach or Raley or Rooker or Wade or.... to fill Rosario's place, We sign Garret Cole for 7 years 210 Million, resign Odorizzi, and we still have the other prospects we did not trade to fill in as depth, we are truly contenders.
  16. And my hopes are revived...
  17. Crapola, I did not realize he was out of options
  18. Romero is also not listed and I still hold out hope he gets at least one more shot to start. He was one of those high upside guys with a poor debut. I’m still confused how he went from best future prospect to bullpen failure in such a short amount of time
  19. I was at a game recently and saw a Lyman Bostock Jersey. That was a cool one to see. I would love to break out a Gene Larkin Jersey. Maybe we could have a disgruntled former Twins Jersey night and pull out our David Ortiz, Chuck Knoblauch, etc... Jerseys. That could be fun too...
  20. The big issue with Rooker, Wiel and Kirriloff is the CF part of the equation. Cave, Buxton, Kepler are our 3 CF and they are also ALL not feeling 100% or even a LOT worse than 100%. Who's next in CF? Rosario, Miller, Lamarre? CF has become a BIG problem. Time to limp into the post season... GAHHH!!! Edit: I forgot to name Wade as possible CF. Should I feel relief now that I added his name to the possible CF's for the remainder of the season and post season?
  21. You need 3-4 pitches to be a starter and he has just two that work for him. No, I think he has found his professional home and starting is in the rear view mirror.
  22. Stretch Romero out for the Arizona Fall League and send him there as a starter. Try him again as a starter in Spring Training and make adjustments as the Spring proceeds. I would like to see him get another chance to start but I also hoped May would get another chance. Moving starters to the bullpen too quickly has not proven consistently successful. This also gives me hesitation about Graterol...
  23. I’m in the minority obviously but I don’t mind the unwritten rules. You’re up 13-5 in the 9th with a 3-0 count? Doesn’t matter what level your at, you take the pitch. Chances of a walk, 50%. Chance of a hit is in the 30s %. As a professional you should know to take the pitch. I also agree that with his being corrected immediately by his coach and apology, that should have been enough.
