  1. As stated, he has an option left so no clock strikes 12 quite yet. He started to figure it out a bit this year then got dinged. Would be smart to move Kepler and give Larnach the full-time gig to see if he can or cannot take the bull by the horns. Still young and talented... 188 games is NOTHING in the scheme of things. Especially when you consider not playing every day which makes a huge difference. Taking those lumps is part of the process that all players go through.... some figure it out some don't but do think he should be given this year to see if he can be part of the future.
  2. The front office has some restrictions with the payroll this offseason which has been clear. With this the reality and the fact that some of these guys have to either sink or swim as players coming up are pushing them up the ladder. As I have stated in other spots it is the perfect time to move on from Polanco and Kepler. I would hang on To Vasquez myself as his leadership is clear but could also see him moving depending on the offer. Having Martin play the utility spot while he gets his feet wet makes sense and the FO believe he is a high end CF so I would not be surprised to see him as the starting CF on opening day. Lee has the defensive skills to be a Gold Glove winner at 2B and his bat is ready although like most will take some lumps. Like the Rays we need to move our guys that are marketable and have quality replacements to keep our system and team strong long term.
  3. Dream would be the key word here. The 27 million this year... doable... the 440 million 10 year extension that he is looking for according to one report? Not happening. Considering that they would also want a handful of our top prospects. This would be a TERRIBLE long term move. Again, Not happening. I would expect the Yankees to be all in. Stanton going that way since he is signed seems to make sense with a few prospects. The New York pressure has got to Stanton and he is likely on his way out.
  4. Long and short of this is that we have replacements waiting in our system that are cost controlled with likely similar skills. If we can get a 4th starter for one of them and a decent prospect or two out of the other... it is time. Both have pretty decent trade value at this point so selling high is how you keep improving ala TB.
  5. Why Martin would be promoted to that spot as I had said. Actually a good spot for Martin to get his feet wet.
  6. As have stated in other rooms around here. Is perfect timing to move on from Polanco and Kepler. I have them saving 20 million if moving both not 10. Along with Farmer moving on that should be about a 25 million dollar savings. If you can give Buxton away for anything that would be 40. ALL replaceable within the system and would allow for more pitching as that is where this team is going to flourish.. ala Tampa Bay.
  7. Why? Castro showed that he has the ability to play in center and fits perfect. Have Martin sitting in AAA with the ability to also play the position. No need.
  8. Understand... but "selling" when the market is high on him is the best time especially with his injury issues over the past few years.... It is time... has been very good for us but the timing just makes too much sense.
  9. I would say exactly the opposite should happen. Should trade both Polanco and Kepler as have cheap inhouse replacements that would be close to them in production at the smidge of their cost. If possible send out Bux also but that contract I don't see anyone touching. If they could trade one or all for pitching that would make the most sense... Call Miami again? :) With that money use toward a quality left hander. All three have had ups and downs and some injury history so is a bit dicey but ... my order would be Snell, Montgomery then Rodriquez.
  10. Would REALLY be nice having a lefty on our staff. Montgomery would be my choice but he may have pitched himself out of our budget.. 4 year 100 mil I would go to but that likely wont get it done in todays quest for pitching. Snell would be in the same as Montgomery. I believe both are 31... getting to 36 with the same results very unlikely. Rodriguez would be okay but with his injury history would be wary. Agree on Yamamoto.. would pay a bunch but likely outbid by the big boys.
  11. More reason to move him. Would make him very valuable on the market with teams knowing there is a club option and very manageable buyout. Thanks for the correction...
  12. Both are had a good .. not great year... are on the last year of their contract and likely have a market we could get decent return on. Meanwhile we have comparable player (s) who need the opportunity and are MUCH cheaper. I do believe this will happen.
  13. As I have stated in different areas... time to move off of Polanco and either trade or buy out of his option and let Lee take over at 2B. Julian at DH and an occasional start makes this team better.
  14. Really believe that buying out Polanco and Max is a likely scenario given it would save about 18 million and we could use that money to work on one more starter and given we have ready-made replacements that are comparable other than experience. That given the case... Do believe that Royce is WAY better suited to 3rd than Lee given his body makeup. I Think that Lee would be an all star at 2nd and fits perfectly there. Martin is a bit tougher. His inconsistent plate performance lends me to think he will start in AAA and come up as a utility guy. Severino needs to work on his SO's.. way too high but his production is very good. Would believe they would protect him on the 40 man... nice insurance for a DH type guy. All in all .. think we will see Lee starting at 2B early next year..
  15. Going to need to flip a bunch of the roster in order to increase the speed. At this point not likely. Buxton... he is done running.. period. Lewis... run? He also has injury history... maybe a couple extra but nothing crazy. Martin would be fine but where is he going to play.. at this point is a longshot to make the show unless we move some OF players. Which we could.... Othewise... Status quo boys.. status quo.
  16. I would let Luplow go as stated... Would resign both Alcala and Gordon if the cost is only 1 mil per. In this cost conscious season until we get the TV deal done... I would actually find a trade home for BOTH Polanco and Kepler. They should have a market considering I believe are on the last year of their contract. Both finished fairly strong so getting some cap relief and letting our system fill the spots really makes sense. Take the 20 mil saved with 2 mil and get some prospects or pitching in return... easier said than done but that would be my plan.
  17. Not sure why this is even a topic. In today's budget he is a bargain. Getting a quality player that is a great leader and likely a good reason that our other catcher took a stop forward AND our pitching staff was so good.... at his pricetag..... a VERY good deal.
  18. Having a TOP defensive catcher is every "good" teams priority. Having 2 Very good catchers is a VERY good thing. Offense is a bonus. How was our pitching staff this year? That is DIRECTLY mirrored by our catching.... they go together. (See St. Louis if doubt) With the possible loss of Maeta and Gray means we need to have great catching to direct our staff.. as the saying goes. "If it ain't broken... don't fix it"
  19. If we could find a taker for Buxton and get any sort of return... it is time. Use the money for pitching..
  20. Wrong answer. So sad so many people buy into the metric stuff and don't trust their eyes and the feel of the game. Was at the game. Was a "collective" what the heck chatter and Ryan must be hurt as he was dealing! Like the Barrios debacle from Toronto, am sure the Houston fans were thrilled with the choice. Ryan CLEARLY had his good stuff like early in the year. Baldelli's lack of trust in his staff continues to be an issue and hopefully he will learn and get better as he asks his players to... as he is a liability with the pitching staff.
  21. Partially correct... but taking out Ryan when throwing really well compounded by the bonehead move of leaving Thielbar in to pitch to Abreau.. changed the tone of the game...that is non debatable for those at the game. Correct is that we reverted back to the 1st half of the season trying to hit everything out of the park instead of trying to get hits and putting pressure on the pitching and defense of the other team.. getting the same results as we did the first half of the season... poor.
  22. Actually in the moment ... at the game when he allowed him to pitch to him I was cussing knowing.. and have NO idea how everyone with any baseball acumen doesn't realize that as hot as Abreau was/is you could not allow Thielbar to pitch to him. The matchup was TERRIBLE! So no.. it wasn't hindsight.. it was common sense.
  23. Was at the game... Ryan had very good stuff . Thought maybe he was hurt. He should have been left in .... Led eventually to Thielbar coming in and having Abreau hit the home run While Paddock was warmed up and ready to go. CAN'T HAPPEN!! Baldelli's mismanagement of the pitching staff over the rear likely cost us minimum of 5 games and likely closer to 10.... This one might have cost us a chance to go to game 5. Argh!! Ar
  24. MLB in it's infinite wisdom is waiting until after the Tex/Balt tonight to determine the game time. Absolutely insane. Have tickets and am 5 hours away... day game - night game have two completely different scenarios for fans and players. Completely TERRIBLE as far as fan friendly. Work, hotels, kids, travel etc.. Clearly they bow down to the almighty TV network money. Argh
