  1. Yep. I’ll be at the game and try to break the streak (I have no luck against the Yankees, but my Mets record isn’t bad).
  2. “The Twins 2,3, and 4 hitters have not even put the ball in play in this game” say the Mets radio announcers, even before Buck strikes out. Embarrassing for me to go into work this week here in NYC.
  3. The Mets radio announcers did it much earlier and wasted the next 10 minutes talking about how little they knew about ballet and opera (as though they are the same thing). So much for New Yorkers being culturally sophisticated…
  4. This is grotesque. Here in New York, I thought we could at least make a good showing against the Mets. Will go to Wednesday’s game.
  5. Speaking of weather, a huge thunderstorm hit two years ago just as I got into my car in the distant parking lot. More memorable was in 1991 in Rod’s speech when he thanked the late Billy Martin and a roll of thunder immediately followed. People laughed, as I recall.
  6. Thank you. I had made the long day trip for Rodney, Kirby, Bert, and Kitty and Tony, but I felt I just couldn’t pull it off yesterday. It is a great experience, but always a long, hot afternoon in the sun (fortunately, it’s never rained on me). Not to get political, but I was kind of wondering how the news about Biden spread during the speeches.
  7. Thanks, Squirrel!
  8. Here in New York, my friends who are lifelong Yankee fans ask me how my Twins are doing. I say, “We only win against the really bad teams.” They reply that that’s how the Yankees of old (1950s and early 1960s) did it. I don’t know if that’s true, but, of course, the current playoff system changes all that. Still, they mean to be comforting.
  9. Twins fan in NYC here: Once I tell real Yankee fans that I’m a Twins fan, they respond by laughing and being fully aware of their dominance. As for the Yankee players, I agree, they don’t give it much thought.
  10. Listening to the radio. Was about to turn if off to make a phone call, and then said to myself, “Well, I’ll wait to see what Royce does” !!!
  11. Listening of the radio. No way I would watch, even if I wasn’t blacked out.
  12. I was at Yankee Stadium for David Wells’s perfect game. That was kind of a thrill, but NO desire for another one! I’m planning to go to the Stadium for tomorrow’s game. It’s supposed to rain….
  13. Sitting in a Manhattan bar, playing bar trivia and trying to watch the game at the same time. As soon as that ball call was made on Judge and before I could say anything, my Yankee fan friend turned to me and said, “When you are good, you get the calls.”
  14. Exactly. Some real baseball veterans were saying at the time that he turned the DP better than anyone they’d seen. I believe that shows up in Twins statistics for 1976. Liked the guy a lot and was happy to read of his later coaching career.
  15. Even as we can agree to disagree on the extent of Joe Jackson’s guilt, we do agree that the judicial system is “dramatically different” today where Jackson would have his own lawyer. He would not be coached by the White Sox lawyers whose interest was to protect club owner Charles Comiskey and quite likely conceal Jackson’s attempts to tell Comiskey what he knew.
  16. Time to really consider Joe Jackson. There are still holes in establishing his guilt, and we are learning more about false confessions in modern times. Some of these issues are raised in the afterword of this play: https://www.amazon.com/AINT-SO-Shoeless-Jacksons-Story/dp/B08HQ92WYY
  17. Thanks, also, from me . Glad I forgot to tune in (Yankees radio for me).
  18. Was at Yankee Stadium for that one, so, yes, I’ve seen a lot of miserable games against the Yankees that go back more than 20 years. At least the perfect game was a novelty…
  19. Correa certainly realizes he is the leader on the field; I think the problem was that he thought he could act as general manager, as well. I don’t mean this to be snarky, as I agree with what was said here…
  20. Good for you! I live in NYC and have made the very, very long day trip—for Rodney, Kirby, Bert, and Tony and Kitty. That’s been about 10 years apart, so I’d be breaking my streak going back so soon. Yes, it is very, very crowded and you normally park outside the town and take shuttle buses everywhere. Then you sit in the hot sun for hours during the ceremony. It is fun, though, meeting fans from everywhere.
  21. And yet, they are “favorite Twins” for a lot of us.
  22. Ooo, GarvSauce!
